The Daylesford Agricultural Society Inc. In the year 1865, the first Show was held in the Jamison Hotel Yard, and was called ‘The Grain Show.’ Later it became known as the ‘Agricultural Show’, and for some considerable time was held in the old showgrounds at the corner of Malmsbury Road and Knox Street, and later at the grounds known as Middleton Park. The showgrounds are now established at Victoria Park, and Daylesford’s annual show is one of the State’s best exhibitions. DOGS CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW Under the Rules & Regulations of the VCA. GENERAL REGULATIONS: Daylesford & District Agricultural Show will run under VAS Ltd Rules & Guidelines. A copy is available in the Secretary’s Office. Intending exhibitors are requested to peruse carefully the rules relating to entries, particularly as to the Section and Class in which they propose to exhibit. Entries without entry fees will not be processed. 1. PLEASE NOTE: All pavilion entries need to be delivered to

the relevant pavilion between 12 noon and 1.30 p.m. on Friday 22nd November. No exhibit will be accepted after 1.30 p.m. Judging will commence at 2 p.m. sharp.

2. ALL ENTRIES must be lodged with the Secretary no later than November 15th. Secretary, Daylesford & District Agricultural Society, PO Box 58, Daylesford, 3460.

3. Every exhibitor, where pertinent, on making the entry, will receive a card with the Section, Class and Number of the exhibit thereon, which must be fixed firmly on the exhibit, without the production of which no exhibit will be allowed in the arena, and no vehicle or stock or any kind not entered for exhibition will be allowed to remain in the arena, except for special purposes.

4. No judge shall be an exhibitor in that Section in which he/she is judging.

5. All exhibits must be owned by the exhibitor, who may be required to lodge with the Secretary the required certificate to that effect. Should it be proved to the satisfaction of the Committee that an animal or any other exhibit has been entered under a false name, pedigree, or description for the purpose of misleading the Committee or judges as to the qualification or properties, the violation by an exhibitor of any one of the regulations will involve the forfeiture of the premium awarded him/her. Proof of ownership is to rest with the exhibitor. All stock exhibits must be of the breed as entered or no prize will be awarded.

6. The judges shall sign and give their reports to the Committee, and their decisions, as confirmed by the Committee, shall be final. Protests against the decisions of the judges are to be lodged with the Secretary within one hour of the judge’s decision, with the sum of $10.00, which will be forfeited should the protest be considered frivolous or vexatious.

7. Any person insulting or interfering with the judges during the show will be subject to removal from the venue and the prizes, if any, awarded to them forfeited.

8. Any person refusing to attach the prize card on any exhibit to which the prize is awarded and to keep the same on during the hours of exhibition will, on proof thereof to the committee, be disqualified from receiving all prizes awarded to the said person during the Show.

9. The Society will not be responsible for any accident that may be caused through or by any exhibit and it will be a condition of entry that each exhibitor shall not hold the Society responsible and indemnify it against any legal proceedings arising from such accident.

10. The Society will not, in any circumstance, hold itself responsible for any loss or mis-delivery of livestock or other exhibits at the Society’s exhibition or any loss or damage thereto, nor for any loss by accident, fire, storm, damage by water, flood or lightning. Exhibits and displays will be accepted only on this condition.

11. The judges will be distinguished by a blue badge; the stewards by a coloured one.

12. Water will be provided for stock. 13. Every horse must have a good halter. 14. Every dog must have a chain and a plain collar,

without any name or mark, with the entry ticket attached, without which it will not be allowed in. the arena.

15. Cattle and horses, except foals at foot, must be led in and out of the arena, and also be tied up when not being led or ridden.

16. Cattle tattoos (pedigree) to be checked by stewards prior to judging.

17. No exhibit can be removed from the venue until 3.00 p.m. on the day of the Show.

18. Exhibitors in all Sections must strictly attend to the instructions of the stewards as to placing exhibits. Any decoration or ribbons or prize cards from any other show prior to judging will cause disqualification of the exhibit.

19. Any prize or prizes awarded by the Society at any of its exhibitions left unclaimed for three months may be forfeited or cancelled by the Committee of Management.

20. NOVICE: Definition: Not to have won a first prize, competing singly, in open competition at any agricultural show. (A win in a Novice class does not prevent entry.)

21. The competitor’s age to be taken at the day of the Show. Proof may be requested.

22. Once judging has commenced, no further competitors may come into the ring.

23. Ribbons awarded to third place in all livestock events. 24. Aggregate points: see relevant sections. 25. In the case of a dispute as to the construction of

any of these regulations, the same will be determined by the Committee of the Society, whose decision will be final.

26. The Committee reserves the right to refuse or cancel any entry without giving reasons for so doing.

27. Stewards have the right to re-class an article if it is obviously entered in the wrong class.

28. Exhibitors and stall holders are to pay admission. 29. Please note: District Radius: 25km from

Daylesford P.O. 30. The Committee reserves the right to alter, delete

from or add to this schedule as circumstances arise.

31. The use of tranquillisers, stimulants or any drugs capable of affecting the performance or behaviour of animals is forbidden.

32. Competitors are advised that tests for forbidden substances may be carried out during the Show and that testing of all animals is at the owner’s risk. Testing for forbidden substances will be carried out under veterinary supervision. Random swabbing may take place.

33. No person who is in arrears with regard to entry fees, subscriptions, or any other Show charge is eligible to compete at any Show held by or affiliated with VAS Ltd. Proof of payment will be required before any restriction will be lifted. NOTE: not only is the above a rule of VAS Ltd but it is expected that this policy will be followed by every member and affiliated organisation.

34. If an animal breaks loose and causes damage to another animal, person or property it is the responsibility of the owner of that animal to have insurance to cover the damage. Farm insurance would cover animals at the Show if the farmer informs their insurance company that they take animals to the Show.

35. VAS LTD GOOD HANDS COMPETITION Sponsored by Sporthorse Saddlery. Free entry. Good Hands – Boy or girl rider, 10 years & under15 years. Conditions: Good Hands competitors will be judged on their riding ability. Mount, saddle and costume will not be considered. Special attention will be paid to hands and seat, general management and control of the horse or pony. Competitors must ride using an ordinary snaffle single jointed in the centre. The mouthpiece must be smooth and of one metal with or without a cavesson noseband. A gear check may take place. Please note: straight bar snaffle, drop nosebands, whips and spurs are not allowed. The age of rider is on the day of the Show. Finals will be held at the 2020 VAS Ltd Saddle Horse Championships.

The MacDonald Trophy, presented by the MacDonald family, will be awarded to the most successful individual competitor in Light Horse Sections, Classes 1-101. To be won three times, not necessarily in succession. Winners: 2011 - C. Thomas; 2012 - R. 3 RING HORSE PROGRAM Conducted under Rules & Guidelines as set out by VAS Ltd (2019) SECTION B • HACKS, GALLOWAYS, PONIES & BREED CLASSES. • No stallions permitted in Rings 1, 2 & 3. • All Hacks, Galloways & Ponies will be measured by the

Measuring Steward in the event of a dispute, unless holding current RAS or EFA cards.

• All horses’ ages are from 1st August. • Riders without approved EFA headgear shall be

ineligible to compete until rectified. This applies to all events, not just under-age competition.

• The retaining harness must be secured and fastened at all times.

• A competitor who wins a Championship in an Open Saddle Class in Rings 1, 2 or 3 should not enter the equivalent class in another ring.

• No long boots in riding events under 18 years. • SHOW HUNTERS: Cannot compete in both Open &

Show Hunter classes. It is one or the other. • VAS Ltd Off the Track Ridden Open to all Thoroughbreds

unraced or raced 4 years and over 14.2 hh who are registered with RISA (Racing Information Services Australia). Registrations will be checked. Racing name to be used where appropriate. Refer to www.vicagshows.com.au for competition regulations – see class 10

conjunction with those of the Daylesford & District Agricultural Society Inc.

• All Show rules and regulations shall encourage the aims, rules & constitution of the Western Region Poultry Club Inc. (WRPC)

• Exhibits must be the property of the exhibitor as shown on the entry form at the time of entering the Show.

• The Poultry supervisor reserves the right to refuse any entry or part thereof without giving the reason for the decision.

• Neither DDAS nor WRPC shall be liable for any loss, theft or damage to any property, including exhibits, at the Show.

• Neither DDAS nor WRPC shall be liable for any illness, disease or infection to any exhibit.

• Judges are not liable to give a placing to an exhibit that in their opinion does not meet the minimal standard for the described breed.

• Non-identifiable leg bands are permitted. • Exhibitors are responsible for the feed and water of their

Definition of a biscuit – A biscuit is rolled, cut to shape, dropped from a spoon, baked in a tin. A biscuit must be crisp; when broken it must snap in half cleanly. All biscuits should be even in thickness, not high on one side and low on the other.

• Definition of a cookie – A cookie is a plain mixture dropped from the spoon, with the addition of fruit, choc bits, nuts, etc. It can be higher & softer than a biscuit, it can be rougher, or it can be flattened out with baking & be short and crisp.

VAS Ltd Rich Fruit Cake Competition Open to all fruit cake enthusiasts Rules & Regulations 1. The entrant must follow the recipe and specifications

provided. 2. Each cake entered must be the bona fide work of the

exhibitor. 3. The Rich Fruit Cake follows the three levels of

competition: Show level, Group level and State Final. 4. An exhibitor, having won at the Show, will bake another

cake for entry in the Group Final and the winner will then be required to bake a further cake for the State Final at the next Royal Melbourne Show.

5. An exhibitor, having won at Show level, is not eligible to enter any other Show until after the Group judging.

6. An exhibitor is only eligible to represent one Group in the State Final.

7. If for any reason a winner is unable to compete at Group or State Final, the second placegetter is eligible to compete. Exhibitors are to follow the recipe and specifications.

State Final Prizes 1st - $200.00 & VAS Ltd State Final Trophy 2nd - $100.00 3rd - $50.00 Ingredients 250g sultanas, 250g chopped raisins, 250g currants, 125g chopped mixed peel, 90g chopped red glace cherries, 90g chopped blanched almonds, 1/3 cup sherry or brandy, 250g plain flour, 60g self-raising flour, ¼ tsp grated nutmeg, ½ tsp ground ginger, ½ tsp ground cloves, 250g butter, 250g soft brown sugar, ½ tsp lemon essence or finely grated lemon rind, ½ tsp almond essence, 4 large eggs. Method: Mix together all the fruit and nuts and sprinkle with the sherry or brandy. Cover and leave for at least 1 hour, but preferably overnight. Sift together the flours and spices. Cream together the butter & sugar with the essences. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, then alternately add the fruit & flour mixtures. Mix thoroughly. The mixture should be stiff enough to support a wooden spoon. Place the mixture in a prepared tin 20 cm square, straight-sided, square cornered and bake in a slow oven for approximately 3½ - 4 hours. Allow the cake to cool in the tin.

Method: Preheat the oven to 180c (160c fan). Grease a 23 cm (9”) round cake tin and line with baking paper. Sift the dry ingredients together into a bowl. In a separate bowl, beat the eggs and oil, then add to the dry ingredients. Mix well, then add the carrots, crushed pineapple and pecans. Mix to form a smooth batter and pour into the cake tin. Bake for approximately 90 - 100 minutes. Remove from the oven and allow to cool for 10 minutes in the tin on a wire rack. Upend and allow to cool on the wire rack. VAS Ltd Junior Boiled Fruit Cake. A competition for junior cake bakers under 18 on the day of their local Show. State Final prizes: 1st: $200.00 & VAS Ltd State Final Trophy 2nd: $100.00 3rd: $50.00 NOTE: Regulations for the Junior Boiled Fruit Cake Competition are the same as the Regulations for the Rich Fruit Cake Competition. Ingredients: 375 g mixed fruit, ¾ cup brown sugar, 1 tsp mixed spice, ½ cup water, 125 g butter, ½ tsp bicarbonate soda, ½ cup sherry, 2 eggs, lightly beaten, 2 tbsp marmalade, 1 cup self-raising flour, 1 cup plain flour, ¼ tsp salt. Method: Place the mixed fruit, sugar, spice, water and butter in a large saucepan and bring to the boil. Simmer gently for three minutes, then remove from the stove, add bicarb soda and allow to cool. Add the sherry, eggs and marmalade, mixing well. Fold in the sifted dry ingredients, then place in a greased and lined 20 cm round cake tin. Bake in a moderately slow oven for 1½ hours or until cooked when tested.

Ingredients: 2 ½ cups self-raising flour, 1 tsp ground cinnamon, ¼ tsp ground nutmeg, 1 cup brown sugar (firmly packed), 1/3 cup pitted dates, 1 cup coarsely grated carrot, 1 tbsp orange marmalade, 1 cup canola oil, 2 eggs, lightly beaten, ¾ cup orange juice, 1 cup reduced fat milk Method: Heat oven to 190c (moderately hot). Line and spray a 12-hole muffin pan with round paper muffin cases. Classic white muffin cases size (35mm height x 90mm wide x 50mm base). Sift dry ingredients into a large bowl; stir in dates and carrots. Then add the combined marmalade, oil, eggs, juice and milk. Mix until just combined. Spoon mixture evenly into prepared pan holes. Cook for 20 minutes. To test if muffins are cooked, insert a cake skewer; if it comes out clean the muffins are ready.

Stand muffins in the pan for 5 minutes then turn out onto a wire rack to cool. Show entries: Four (4) muffins per plate.

8. An exhibitor having won at Show level is not eligible to enter the VAS Ltd knitting competition until after the group final judging.

9. An exhibitor is only eligible to represent one group in the State final.

10. If for any reason a winner is unable to compete at group or State final level, then the second placegetter is eligible to compete.

11. An exhibit having won at State final level is no longer eligible competition.

12. If an exhibitor is found to have won more than one group final the exhibitor must forfeit/refund all prizes and be disqualified from exhibiting for 12 months.

petition contains elements of risk, both obvious

and inherent. Horse sports are dangerous recreational activities and horses can act in sudden and unpredictable ways, especially w

hen frightened or hurt. 1.

By signing this waiver I acknow

ledge that: 1.1.

Participation in horse sports is a hazardous activity and may result in injury, loss, dam

age or death to me;

1.2. Participation in horse sports requires certain skills. I declare that I have suffi

cient skills to be able to safely and properly participate in the events. 1.3.

Horses can act in a sudden and unpredictable way, especially if frightened or hurt, or if exposed to loud or unfam

iliar noises; 1.4.

If held at an agricultural show, the horse sports w

ill be held near rides and large groups of people, and that there may be loud and unfam

iliar noises which can frighten horses;

1.5. As the event is held outdoors, there are risks to m

e & to m

y horse as a result of the weather conditions, including either extrem

e hot or cold weather, rain or w

ind; 1.6.

Insects or other animals m

ay cause my horse or other horses to becom

e frightened and act in an unpredictable way;

1.7. There is inherent in horse riding events the risk of suffering injury including falling from

my horse;

1.8. I am

responsible for ensuring that I have and will w

ear equipment suitable for safely and properly participating in the event; and

1.9. I use the facilities of the Daylesford &

District Agricultural Society entirely at my ow

n risk, as I find them and w

ith the prior acceptance of the risk of possible danger to me.

2. If I suffer harm

while participating in a horse event, I w

ill not hold the suppliers, their employees or agents legally responsible for any injuries I suffer. I w

ill not sue the suppliers, their employees or agents for any claim

s, costs, dam

ages or liability. I agree to release the suppliers and their employees from

legal responsibility for the services I have been provided. 3.

I acknowledge and agree that m

District Agricultural Society (“the suppliers”) advise that participation in the practice horse sports at an agricultural show or horse com

petition contains elements of risk, both obvious

and inherent. Horse sports are dangerous recreational activities and horses can act in sudden and unpredictable ways, especiall y w

hen frightened or hurt. 1.

By signing this waiver I acknow

ledge that: 1.1.

Participation in horse sports is a hazardous activity and may result in injury, loss, dam

age or death to me;

1.2. Participation in horse sports requires certain skills. I declare that I have suffi

cient skills to be able to safely and properly participate in the events. 1.3.

Horses can act in a sudden and unpredictable way, especially if frightened or hurt, or if exposed to loud or unfam

iliar noises; 1.4.

If held at an agricultural show, the horse sports w

ill be held near rides and large groups of people, and that there may be loud and unfam

iliar noises which can frighten horses;

1.5. As the event is held outdoors, there are risks to m

e & to m

y horse as a result of the weather conditions, including either extrem

e hot or cold weather, rain or w

ind; 1.6.

Insects or other animals m

ay cause my horse or other horses to becom

e frightened and act in an unpredictable way;

1.7. There is inherent in horse riding events the risk of suffering injury including falling from

my horse;

1.8. I am

responsible for ensuring that I have and will w

ear equipment suitable for safely and properly participating in the event; and

1.9. I use the facilities of the Daylesford &

District Agricultural Society entirely at my ow

n risk, as I find them and w

ith the prior acceptance of the risk of possible danger to me.

2. If I suffer harm

while participating in a horse event, I w

ill not hold the suppliers, their employees or agents legally responsible for any injuries I suffer. I w

ill not sue the suppliers, their employees or agents for any claim

s, costs, dam

ages or liability. I agree to release the suppliers and their employees from

legal responsibility for the services I have been provided. 3.

I acknowledge and agree that m

y participation in the horse sports and associated activities are a danger and may have inherent risks as a result of w

hich personal injury (and sometim
