What can you do?


Synergies Working with the local communities : more interaction with Locals is required since Target 16 of CBD New Strategic Plan 2020 : By 2015, the Nagoya Protocol on Access to

Genetic Resources and the Fair and Equitable Sharing of Benefits Arising from their Utilization is in force and operational, consistent with national legislation Target 18: By 2020, the traditional knowledge, innovations and practices of indigenous and local communities relevant for the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity, and their customary use of biological resources, are respected, subject to national legislation and relevant international obligations, and fully integrated and reflected in the implementation of the Convention with the full and effective participation of indigenous and local communities, at all relevant levels.,

Cooperation with TEEB :Investing in Nature Making nature & soil values visible into decision making is a priority option , putting a price on nature, An increased appreciation of the values to the society,

Cooperation with Redd Plus Initiative for deforestation . The 68 session of the UN , has called for immediate action to combat desertification, Draught on national & regional Level to in arid , semi arid Areas , to achieve SLM , and the outcomes of 2nd Scientific Conference ( don’t leave our Future for draught , Water Scarcity & Desertification) , a world free of draught & desertification , forests by 2030.

Wetlands Economic values , Wetlands provide a wide range of ecosystem services that contribute to human well-being as a source of water, Areas for food

production, Climate change mitigation, by acting as a store of carbon; Coastal protection, floods Protection , storms, thereby contribute to land formation &

coastal zone stability , reducing the impacts from floods and pollution . A TEEB Report is greatly required for the region on the Economics Ecosystems ,

biodiversity, of SLM and DLDD, Regional cooperation/partnership among Rio Conventions ( UNCCD, CBD, UNFFCC)

Establishment of Education and Public Awareness Centres at affected Dry lands


Nagoya Protocol on Access to Genetic Resources and the Fair and Equitable Sharing of Benefits Arising from their Utilization is in force and operational, consistent with national legislation ,will be in force 2015.

Accession & Ratification

The Arab Union for Protected Areas

A need to increase in amount of legally protected areas of land,

Disaster Risk Reduction Center was established in Algeria according to the Higher Arab League Council Decision 2004


Supporting the Arab Team on the Follow –up of MEA/s Conventions on Biodiversity & combating Desertification. To encourage fp to participate , Enhancing the Reporting System by the Countries FP , commissioned by CAMRE to follow the MEA’s (Saudia Arabia to provide a semi Annual report on Progress of Implementation of UNCCD .

FAO Partnership Committee on Water Scarcity Initiative. Strengthening the Committee formed by LAS , ACSAD, DRC,

Arab Bank for Economic Development ( Badia) , other UNCCD stakeholders..

School children Pioneers should be selected for cooperation . UNEP/ROWA follow up report of SRAP Project and provision of

progress to the Arab team on the follow- up of MEA’s is required . CAMRE at 25th session has emphasized acceleration of the

Alignment & Implementation of National Action Plans with UNCCD 10-Year Strategy in the Arab Region, finalizing the of national & regional capacity building , assistance of UNCCD , ACSAD, UNEP , GIZ, GM to implement the regional Capacity Building Program in alignment with tenth Strategic Plan

ACSAD coordination with UNCCD Secretariat to link affected areas in the region with the Electronic hub of UNCCD to facilitate dissemination of success stories and best practices .
