QUEEN BOHEMAIN RHAPSODY GREATEST HITS TOUR REVIEW - Leisure Links participant, Kane.

On Friday 11th October, I went to see the Bohemian Rhapsody show at Cessnock Performing Arts Centre.

Bohemian Rhapsody is Australia’s premier tribute to the famous British rock group Queen. Scottish born vocalist, Thomas Crane, is the band’s frontman portraying the late, Freddie Mercury. He bares an uncanny resemblance to him & has performed in many talent shows such as Australia’s Got Talent. Other band members dressed up as Roger Taylor, Brian May & John Deacon.

The first half of the concert was a romp of magical proportions performing a plethora of Queen’s well known hit songs such as Radio Ga Ga, I Want to Break Free, Under Pressure, Now I’m Here, the grooving Another One Bites the Dust & Who Wants to Live Forever? The band also played a number of songs that Queen didn’t perform live with Freddie such as the empowering I Want it All & the emotionally fuelled power ballad The Show Must Go On which Queen recorded in one take during the Innuendo sessions as Freddie was ailing with his unannounced AIDS diagnosis. The horrible disease sadly claimed his life a year later.

The second half of the concert began with the song Bohemian Rhapsody where everyone joined in singing. The rocking & rolling Tie Your Mother Down followed & then Freddie’s famous tradition of asking the crowd to respond by singing “AY-OH!” as shown in Queen concerts during their 80’s heyday.

The energetic Hammer to Fall & the rump shaking Fat Bottomed Girls followed. Everyone got up & shook their bodies to the song, especially the ladies!

The concert ended with the crooning Crazy Little Thing Called Love with Freddie playing the electric guitar with Brian & John, grooving together in harmony, thanking the fans who came.

But it wasn’t over yet as it was time for an encore featuring the stomping, clapping & pulsating hit, We Will Rock You! & We Are The Champions. Then the whole band took a big bow & once again thanked everyone who enjoyed the show as Brian’s rendition of God Save the Queen blared over the speakers.

Then the show was all but finished...or was it? The band performed a soulfully beautiful rendition of These Are the Days of Our Lives, another song from the Innuendo album which was written by Roger as a tribute to his kids but alas was also a farewell song from Freddie to his fans. The whole concert culminated with a high energy, ecstatic performance of Don’t Stop Me Now as the whole audience once again joined in with dancing enjoying such a good time!

Bohemian Rhapsody blew me away with their strikingly similar overtones & synergy that fans of Queen experienced during the 70’s & 80’s. Their concerts will be something that you’ll never forget. If you can’t afford to see the upcoming Queen concert tour with Adam Lambert when they visit Australia next year, why not go see Bohemian Rhapsody the next time they’re in town? You won’t be disappointed!
