"We cannot seek achievement for
ourselves and forget about progress and
prosperity for our community... Our ambitions must be broad enough to
include the aspirations and needs of
others, for their sakes and for our own."

PARTNER SITES"This was another great César Chávez event this year. I
really feel like the work we do with our organization and
the farm really ties in with the work that César Chávez
did. The students were wonderful and jumped right into
projects, sometimes outside of their comfort zone. It was
really great to see so many people working together for
a common cause."

Brother Benno's Thrift Shop The goals of the Brother Benno Foundation are to see that,
within the limits of its resources, no one in the area goes
hungry, no one goes without shelter or clothing, and most
importantly, no one goes without someone to care for him
or her. They also strive to help their guests attain self-
sufficiency.

San Marcos Historical Society - LuiseñoLearning Garden
The Society is a private, non-profit corporation devoted to the
collection, preservation and presentation of artifacts, documents
and photos relating to the history of the area. With a desire to
show the community the beauty of a nature-inspired water-wise
garden, the Vallecitos Water District donated a California native
plant garden to Heritage Park. Highlighted in the ethnobotanical
garden are the cultural uses of plants used by the Native
Americans that used to live in the area.
Habitat for Humanity Inland Valley was founded in 1991, to provide
low income housing for families in the Inland Valley. They are
dedicated to eliminating substandard housing locally, as well as
globally, through constructing, rehabilitating and preserving homes;
by advocating for fair and just housing policies; and by providing
training and access to resources to help families improve their
housing conditions.

ProduceGood ProduceGood helps to feed people by gleaning backyard
fruit throughout North County. After almost five years and a
collaboration with Feeding America San Diego, they have
been able to increase distribution capacity, putting practices
in place to dramatically increase the number of growers,
picks and volunteers. Additionally, they are committed to
finding other sustainable solutions to alleviate hunger,
reclaim and repurpose waste and promote the health and
well-being of community members through social
engagement, reciprocity and giving.
Ivey Ranch Park AssociationIvey Ranch Park is dedicated to encourage the interaction of
disabled and able bodied children, of all ages, by providing
educational and recreational activities. Since 1983, they have
served children and adults with disabilities but will not exclude
the able bodied, since integration, inclusion and interaction
are important components of their program. The program
serves over 200 individuals a month.
Muramid Mural Museum & Art Center promotes the Culture of
Peace and brings people together, through mural painting and
other forms of the arts. They showcase the amazing visual

Dragon OrganicsDragon Organics is more than just a farm that believes
in organic growing and healthy eating. They are part of
a collaborative effort between New Alternatives, Inc.,
San Pasqual Academy, and the YES Program, providing
learning opportunities through agricultural literacy, and
hands on job skills to San Pasqual Academy's youth in
order to help cultivate independent life skills.
The 5th grade students at Richland saved plastic bottle caps as part of
a fundraiser for needed supplies, and decided to up-cycle the caps into
a mural art project. With help from CSUSM, they built a mural for the
cafeteria. CSUSM volunteers worked with 5th grade students painting
and using electric drills to screw in coordinating color bottle caps. This
school beautification project will bring joy to students and teachers for
many years to come.
Richland Elementary School
Sustainable Food Project Garden at CSUSM The intent of the project is to grow food as part of the learning and class activities in Geography
460: Food Systems and Emerging Markets. They have succeeded beyond expectations in this
regard. At the same time, the garden is much more than just a class activity. Students, who are
responsible for building and farming the garden, gain hands-on experience in the integration of
experiential learning with curriculum. This presents an amazing opportunity for both future teachers
and gardeners alike. The Food Project became an approved food source for the CSUSM campus
childcare center in Fall 2012.
