Why Kneel? Question: Why do we kneel at Mass? Answer: Since the beginnings of the Church, kneeling has been a key posture of prayer. We see Sts. Peter and Paul in the Acts of the Apostles kneeling in prayer. Early in the 4th century, the Council of Nicea prohibit-ed kneeling on Sundays and special feasts. Kneeling began more as a posture of penance for our sins, but in the history of the Church, it has become more a pos-ture or reverence and solemn prayer. You will notice that the times we kneel at Mass are tied to the consecration of the holy Eucharist. We kneel in both anticipation of what will occur and then in awe of what has taken place: Jesus Christ becomes truly present to us under the guise of bread and wine. The profoundness of this event has over time led the Church to mandate in the current General Instruction of the Roman Missal that kneeling is the only posture allowed during this time. The sheer awesomeness of the holy Eucharist leads us to fall to our knees in won-der and thanksgiving. ©LPi

¿Por qué arrodillarse? Pregunta: ¿Por qué nos arrodillamos en la misa? Responder: Desde los inicios de la Iglesia, arrodillar-se ha sido una postura clave de la oración. Vemos a los santos. Pedro y Pablo en los Hechos de los Apóstoles arrodillados en oración. A principios del siglo IV, el Concilio de Nicea prohibió arrodillarse los domingos y fiestas especiales. Arrodillarse comenzó más como una postura de penitencia por nuestros pecados, pero en la historia de la Iglesia, se ha convertido más en una pos-tura o reverencia y una oración solemne. Dear parents: Regarding new registrations, parents must commit to be the main catechists of their children and somehow begin to familiarize themselves with virtual com-munication. Children currently attending classes will be

enrolled first, and then enrollments will be opened to oth-ers. Mrs. Luisa Negret, from Pflaum, will keep sending the 5-minute video session for upcoming Sundays that will be published on our website under Religious Education. From the Decree issued by Bishop Burns on 5/18/2020, we are in “PHASE TWO”; beginning with daily Mass on Tuesday May 26, 2020. The celebration of the Sacra-ments of Initiation will resume soon; first, I will sched-ule Adults and Minors that would have received sacra-ments on the Easter Vigil, then Confirmation students

and later First Communion Students. These masses will be celebrated in accordance with the ordinances of our civil and ecclesiastical authorities, which will require limited and

restricted attendance, safe distancing, and wear face cover-ing. For the sacrament of reconciliation and Infant’s Baptisms you must called the office to schedule them.
