What is your 2014 Goal? Do you block off time to work on genealogy, only to reach the end of the day with a mere frac-tion of your goals accomplished? Do you feel pressured by a lack of time, lack of energy or lack of focus? Instead of letting time manage you, you need to learn the skills to manage time your way.
Me too, Help! Let’s pledge to make time regularly for our hob-
by. Keep a log, are you getting the time for you? Plan to organ-ize. Stick to it, treat yourself. This is a lot like kicking a bad habit or losing weight, you’ve got to be dedicated. Set goals to take down that brick wall, plan-ning and dedicating time is the first whammy. The 2nd part is to celebrate the takedown! Let us know your celebrations!

Davis County Iowa Genealogy
2013 wraps up as a fruitful year for us. We continue to hold together as a Society, Stand strong with Volunteers, and nev-er lack the ability to trace down and preserve family heritage.
Many Societies have discontinued their newsletter. To me, this [the newsletter] should be the lucky charm in the cereal box. The compilation or treasure of some-thing not available to every other visitor or researcher. This newslet-ter should give insight to rare doc-uments and data that may or may not have been compiled in such a fashion before. And at a later time benefit other researchers, as it is to be shared and archived.
Next on the agenda is to Index a
decade of newsletters, any Volun-teers?
Our Membership numbers about 60. Volunteers about 12.
2013 wrapped up with our Holi-day meeting in December and good companionship. Officers will remain the same, Plenty to do going forward.
We had many new acquisitions, and continually look to enhance our collections.
2013 is the 4oth year to be estab-lished as a Society. 2014 the 40th year as an Iowa Charted Society. There fore, Celebrations to come!
Stop on over!!

April 7th, 1940 Pleasant Ridge School, Lick Creek Township
The children at Pleasant Ridge school, didn’t
know how distinctive their school was until
workmen started to tear it down. And then it
was revealed to them they were attending a log
cabin school of true pioneer variety– a fact for
many years hidden by plaster on the inside and
a clapboard exterior.
A new building recently [1940] was complet-
ed for Pleasant Ridge School and with the pass-
ing of the old structure, Iowa department of
public instruction officials believed the state
has seen the departure of the last log cabin
school — a type that once dotted the prairies.
The Pleasant Ridge School which records
shown was completed in 1863, remained just
as sturdy as it was the day its square-sawed
logs were joined together. But its interior was
considerably crowded when its 30 pupils were
assembled.

On Old Hwy 63 between Midway and
North County line, there was a special
stop. A fella could get a bit of fuel, a
cold soda, and the days news from the
proprietor. That would be Henry Dyer in
this case. Charles Henry Dyer member
of F O E 114 & A O U W, lived in Davis
& Wapello counties. Born to Wm H &
Lydia Foster Dyer, Married to Flora B
Yoder, February 7, 1960.

TORNADOES
STRIKE @ FLORIS
May 1949, A Tornado struck in the Midway Community,
west of Floris, about 4 PM Saturday, wrecking or dam-
aging a number of farm buildings and unroofing part of
the service station and store operated by Harley Barker.
The worst damage was at the O A Dooley farm, a mile
east of highway 63, where a large barn was flattened, a
hay loader blown on top of the wreckage, the garage
demolished, the 2nd barn extensively damaged and a
tree uprooted. At the Charles Bride farm 1/4 of mile to
the east, the barn was shifted off its foundation, a shed
unroofed and a brooder house demolished. There was
also slight damage at the Aaron Emanuel and Les
