Are you a Kroger shopper? Did you know Kroger will donate a portion of what you spend to help the Senior Community Center? All you need to do is call to register your Kroger PLUS card with community rewards! 1-800-KROGERS, Option 3.
Here are the easy steps: 1. Be sure to have your Kroger Plus card ready as they will need the 12 digit-number by the bar code. 2. Just tell them you want your community rewards to go to the Senior Community Center #74560. 3. Let them know that you are unable to do it online and would like them to register you by telephone. That’s it! Thanks for helping out!
If you have been searching for properties to rent, whether it’s for vacation purposes or for long-term, you may need to do a little
more research before taking the ad at face value.
There’s a new scam Gen. Beshear warns Kentuckians about in which someone was involved in a Craigslist online rental scam. A
couple from Fayette County was working with a reputable real estate broker to list their home for sale and the images from the
posting were stolen by a scammer and posted falsely on Craigslist!
The scam has caused people who thought they were renting the 10-acre lake home property to start invading the family’s home thinking they legitimately rented the property! “My office refuses to let con artists steal from Kentucky families who are working hard to make ends meet and pay the rent,” said Beshear. “Thankfully, in this case a reporter reached out to us about the owner’s situation, we were able to help the homeowner get the fraudulent ad removed from Craigslist and prevent other hopeful renters from handing over their money to a con artist.”
Beshear tells us rental property scams spike around the start of college when students are rushing to find place to live and are
more susceptible to scams in their haste. Beshear says property scammers typically continue their scams by just getting more
pictures and doing it again so in order to protect yourself, here are some tips:
• Contact the website owner and report the listing as a scam and ask it to be removed.
• Gather as much information from the person who interacted with the scammer.
• Take screenshots of the postings because they change quickly.
• Report it to Beshear’s Office of Consumer Protection.
Renters … keep an eye out for:
• Prices that are too good to be true.
• Property owners who cannot show their property in person.
• Stories designed for you to feel sorry for or have sympathy for the owner.
• A request to wire money for rent or a deposit or use untraceable methods of payment.
• Research the person company listing the property online without meeting the property owner.
As always, Beshear suggests you stay ahead of scammers by signing up for his office’s Scam Alerts. To enroll text the words KYOAG Scam to GOV-311 (468-311) or online at ag.ky.gov/scams and select text message or email alert.

Did you know that the Senior Community Center provides more than recreation? Below is a list of a few of the many services the SCC provides:
Congregate Meals: For a suggested donation of $1.50, a nutritious lunch can be enjoyed at one of Daviess County’s six nutrition sites. Socialization and a variety of recreational activities are offered along with lunch.
Transportation: For a suggested donation of $1.50, a van will be dispatched to your home for transportation to medical appointments, grocery shopping, and more, then will return you to your home. A 24-hour notice is advised in order to schedule the transportation service.
Telephone Reassurance: You have the opportunity to sign-up for a courtesy call from our office. The goal of the call is to ensure your safety and well-being.
Friendly Visiting: This service allows an SCC volunteer or staff member to visit you in your home. It’s a great way to share stories and have a good discussion about what’s happening in your life.
As you may have noticed, congregate meals and transportation have a suggested donation of $1.50. Donations of any amount are used to offset expenses while ensuring the availability of those programs. For more information on these or other services, please contact the SCC office at 270-687-4640.
