DAVIDSON POST Dear Parents/Carers, I have been delighted to see the enthusiasm that the children have for sport here at Davidson. A huge well done to all the children who played in the hockey tournament this week. They played brilliantly and their behaviour was impeccable. The specialist sports coaches who teach the children each week are connually impressed with their talent and sportsmanship. Unfortunately there are some children each week who leave their PE kit at home and are unable to parcipate in PE lessons. I am sure you are aware this is an important part of the curriculum and children must bring in suitable clothing in order to take part. For your informaon, pupils PE kits should include the following: White t-shirt Black shorts Plimsolls for indoor PE Trainers for outdoor PE Oponal black/navy tracksuit if the weather is cold Please do not hesitate to contact me if this presents a problem. SUPERSTAR READING RECORDS

We are pleased to introduce new “Superstar Reading Records” for children in Years 2, 3, 4 and 5. The children in Year 1 will continue to use their current reading records, which are working well. The Superstar Reading Records allow the children to list books that they would like to read, the high frequency key words are also listed and there is an opportunity for the children to complete a book review. It is important that the children read every day at home and that you discuss the book with your child. Can you please ensure you update the reading record with comments as indicated. The reading record will be sent home next week and should be returned to school daily.

SHIN PADS FOR FOOTBALL & HOCKEY

Please note that for health and safety reasons, children must have their own shin pads for hockey and football during their PE lessons. These should be clearly labelled with your child’s name and class. These can be bought from any sports shop and start from approx. £4.50 a pair.

Shin pads can be kept at school in your child’s PE kit or alternatively brought in on the day they have PE, as follows: Monday Y4 and Y5 Tuesday Y3 Friday Y6

If your child attends football or hockey club after school they will also require their shin pads, on the days as follows: Monday After school football club – Y5 & Y6 Tuesday After school football club - Y3 & Y4 Wednesday After school hockey club - Y4, Y5 and Y6

I am sure you will agree, safety is of utmost importance. If you are unable to provide shin pads for your child, please do not hesitate to contact the school office.

CLASS NEWS This week’s class: The activity was an independent writing for the writing assessment. We

made a story plan for "The Gingerbread Man" and the children wrote the

story independently using it.

“Once upon a time there was a little old woman and a little old man. The little old

woman decided to bake a gingerbread man. Suddenly the gingerbread man ran out

of the house! The gingerbread man said “Run run as fast as you can, you can’t

catch me I’m the gingerbread man”. The gingerbread man ran on until the

gingerbread man came to a pig and a cat. The gingerbread man said “Run run as

fast as you can, you can’t catch me I’m the gingerbread man”. The gingerbread

man came to a dog, the gingerbread man said “Run run as fast as you can, you can’t

catch me I’m the gingerbread man”.”

SPORTS NEWS

Hockey Tournament at Harris Academy Crystal Palace Thursday 19th January Hockey Team: Blazej, Eldon, Andrew, Taheim, Sofia, Shakara, Poshell and Bronte On Thursday 19th the school hockey team went to Harris Crystal Palace to take part in the Croydon Schools hockey competition. The team played their first game against St. James The Great and although going 3-0 down early on they, played some excellent hockey and narrowly loosing 3-2. The second game we were up against Selsdon and with the children less nervous and believing in their ability they convincingly won the game 3-0.

Our final group game was against Heavers Farm and the team needed a win to take us into the playoff final. In what turned out to be a great game the final score ended 2-2.

This resulted in us missing out by 1 point and instead we played in the plate competition. Our first game in the plate was against All Saints again the team put in a fantastic performance and won by 3 goals to nil. We then played against Cyprus and although we created plenty of chances we lost the game 1-0. Our final game of the morning was against Selsdon and again the team played extremely well but just couldn't score and the game finished 0-0.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS

Please remember the e-safety meeting on Tuesday 24th January at 9am and 6pm for parents and carers. Also, on Tuesday 24th January, is a PTA meeting at 10am. Everyone is welcome to attend if interested in joining the relaunch of the PTA. Both meetings will take place in the KS1 hall. Dress up as a scientist day. On Friday 3rd February , children are invited to dress up as a famous scientist as part of the Science Week. The Book Fair takes place from 13th—17th March. The World Book Day tokens will be sent via pupil post in February, which can be used to purchase books at the fair and in any participating bookshops. At the end of the day when you collect your children they should not be playing ball games unless it is part of an organised club that is supervised by a member of staff.

WELLINGTON BOOTS FOR RECEPTION CHILDREN

It would be helpful if you could provide a pair of named wellington boots. This will allow the children to explore the outdoor environment, and particularly the mud kitchen, in all weathers more safely and will stop their shoes becoming muddy.

PLASTERS AND ANTISEPTIC WIPES

Reminder to parents/carers. If your children are allergic to plasters and/or antiseptic wipes, please inform the school office at

your earliest convenience.

Attendance & Punctuality

Here are the attendance figures for each class for week ending Friday 13th January 2017.

The overall attendance figure for Davidson Primary Academy for this period was 94.6%

Congratulations this week goes to classes 1A, 5A, 5B and 6A who had no lates (late arrivals).

Congratulations also goes to class 2A who achieved the best attendance at 99.0%.

Every minute really does count so don’t be late!

If you are reporting your child absent, please call 020 8654 1460 and press option 1. Please leave your child’s name, class and reason for absence.

P A G E 6

This is to remind all Parents and Carers that any queries must be directed

to Davidson Primary Academy email: [email protected]

Good attendance is an important factor in their education.

A child who is absent a day of school per week misses an equivalent of two years of their school life.

A child who is absent may fall behind in their work which will affect their enjoyment of learning.

A child who has poor attendance may lose their desire to attend school regularly.

Low attendance may mean they miss out on the social life of school and extra-curricular opportunities.

Low attendance may affect their ability to have or keep friendships.

Please note that each child’s attendance and punctuality rate is monitored on a regular basis. If it is seen that a child’s attendance or punctuality is below our expected requirement, then parents will be contacted either by letter or a mutually convenient appointment will be arranged to discuss the situation in order for us to offer support.

As a new initiative we have introduced a KS1 and KS2 attendance trophy, which will be awarded to the class who have the best attendance for that week.

The winning classes will receive a trophy, which will be kept in their classroom for the week and they will be rewarded with an additional 10 minutes Dojo time.

A huge well done!

MESSAGE FROM THE HEAD GIRL & HEAD BOY

I really enjoy the new timetable in year 6 because all our subjects are equally set out so we have the same amount of Maths as we do English. Ella 6A

The new playground equipment is very exciting and gives us a varied range of things to play with.
