David Thomas Evans Birth: Sep. 29, 1921 Death: Jul. 11, 1999 Mr. David T. Evans, 79, of West Point died Sunday, July 11, 1999, at Hospice LaGrange in LaGrange, Ga. Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, July 13 at 11 a.m. at Davidson Baptist Church in West Point with the Revs. Bill Smith and Jay Knight officiating. Burial will follow in Marseilles Cemetery in West Point. Mr. Evans is survived by his wife, Sara Spraggins Evans of West Point; his daughter and son-in-law, Patty and Bobby Gray of West Point; his grandson, Shawn Gray of Lanett; two sisters, Rene Smith and Thelma McClendon, both of West Palm Beach, Fla.; and three brothers, Ovie Evans of Florala, Buddy Evans of Pensacola, Fla. and Raymond Evans of Albany, Ga. Born Sept. 29, 1921, in Adar Springs, Ga., Mr. Evans was a charter member and deacon of Davidson Baptist Church in West Point. He was a retired employee of WestPoint Pepperell's Lanett Mill with 32 years of service. Mr. Evans was owner and operator of a locksmith business for many years. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Army. Mr. Evans was a former member of Long Cane Masonic Lodge. He was an avid craftsman in woodwork. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 7 until 9 p.m. at McCarthy Funeral Home in West Point. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Davidson Baptist Church, the Lanier Health Service in Valley or Hospice LaGrange in LaGrange, Ga. in memory of Mr. Evans. McCarthy Funeral Home in West Point is handling arrangements.
