*National Textile Consortium (NTC) Grants: The mission of the National Textile Center is to

promote academic research for the continuing viability and competitiveness of the U.S. Textile

industries in the world market. The grants strongly encourage collaborative research efforts

between the major Universities with textile programs and inter-disciplinary that promotes a

comprehensive approach to a research question. The money is made possible through the United

States Department of Commerce and The National Textile Center. Yearly review is needed to

obtain each year’s funding. Each year the project is peer reviewed by CEO’s and leaders in the

textile industry.

Grant Funds: Twenty nine funded projects in 21 years (new grants projects every year with the

exception of year 2000, 2009, 2010), total grant money awarded for collaborative research $1.64 million.

Infrared Research: Infrared thermographic research at Auburn completed its 25th year in 2001.

Since 1977, 135 presentations, publications, and abstracts have reflected the research efforts of 88 faculty,

staff, and students. My contributions have included 61 presentations, publications, and abstracts over the

last 17 years.

I have been sought as a consultant by the major textile sportswear industries for my expertise in textiles

and thermoregulation. Grants attest to my research abilities and the industry’s willingness to support my

research efforts. I have received national and international recognition for my work on infrared

thermography, and medical board certifications in thermal imaging. I am also nationally recognized for my

expertise in load carriage in children with backpacks.

III. OUTREACH

Research/development of fitness and health plan for Nuclear Plant Security Personnel (1993-2002). My

research on protective barrier suits and thermoregulation relates to both sportswear and industrial suits

designed for hazardous conditions. I currently serve as a member of International Standards Committee for

the Detections of SARS and Avian Flu by Thermal Imaging
