revelationsThe daughter of the radical Islamic

cleric Omar Bakri has left her home

in London amid fears for her safety

after it was disclosed that she was a

pole dancer.Police were called to escort Yasmin Fostok, 27, away from her flat in the south of the

capital to take her an undisclosed location on Saturday. It emerged last week that Ms Fostok regularly performs in bars and nightclubs. There

was also a report that her father - leader of the now outlawed al-Muhajiroun group - had

paid for a 4,000 breast enlargement operation for her.Ms Fostok, one of Bakri's three daughter's has dyed her hair blonde, changed her name

from Youssra to Yasmin and separated from her Turkish-born husband.Last week she admitted being was a dancer with a troupe called Ibiza Untouched and

was quoted in The Sun as saying that she had been known to perform topless "if the

    venue is right".

But the reports of her activities angered her father and led to fears that she could make

her a target for extremists.Police have refused to confirm or deny reports that she has received security advice. A spokesman said that officers had escorted her away from the property at her own

request but denied suggestions that she had been taken to a "safe house".Ms Fostok has distanced herself from her father, who praised the September 11

hijackers while living in Britain. She was quoted last week as saying: "I don't agree with his views, I just get on with my

life and that's it."Bakri left Britain for Lebanon after the July 2005 bombings. He remains there despite an

unsuccessful attempt to return to this country.Last week he furiously denied the story about his daughter and claimed Britain would

"pay a heavy price".But, speaking from Lebanon yesterday, he went further, suggesting that Ms Fostok is an

imposter and not his daughter.Scotland Yard confirmed that police had been called to Ms Fostok's home at the

weekend after the details of her life as a nightclub dancer were disclosed in the media.

Syrian-born Bakri settled in north London where he brought his family up before leaving

for Lebanon three years ago.In 2006 he attempted to join the evacuation of British citizens from Beirut amid fighting

between Israel and Hizbollah but was refused.

    My dad's not a monster

    and I'm not a pole-dancer,

    says firebrand preacherOmar Bakri's daughter

    ByPolly Dunbar

    8th November 2008

Omar Bakri Mohammed's daughter today, mother-of-threeYasmin Fostok

When the daughter of firebrand Muslim cleric Omar BakriMohammed was revealed to be a topless pole dancer, the

conflict between their two lifestyles could hardly have

    been more stark.

Bakri, exiled from Britain in 2005 for inciting hatred, isinfamous for his radical interpretation of Islam, which

includes denouncing Western 'depravity' and claiming the

British people brought the 7/7 outrages on themselves.

In allegedly choosing to lead a secret double life stripping for money in seedy London bars and

nightclubs, Yasmin Fostok appeared to have rejected her father's views in the most extreme way

    possible.

Yet while 'friends' described her passion for flaunting her cosmetically enhanced figure in front

of men, and her colourful love life, to the Press in September, Yasmin was overwhelmed by thesudden onslaught of publicity and terrified by a slew of messages on the internet from extremists

angered by her lifestyle and threatening to harm her.

Now the 27-year-old single mother of three has spoken out for the first time in an exclusiveinterview with The Mail on Sunday to claim that, contrary to what has been written about her,

both her Muslim faith and her father's opinion are still extremely important to her.

While she admits rebelling against her strict upbringing, she denies pole-dancing or taking her

clothes off for money and says the allegations have left her so devastated that she attemptedsuicide.

She says: 'For weeks now I've read lie after lie about myself and the experience has shattered me.

At one stage, I even thought I wanted to die, but I feel much stronger now.

'When I was younger, I danced in nightclubs, but I've never taken my clothes off or danced

around a pole to get men going.

'So many people, including members of my family, have believed what they have heard about

me and judged me, but they know nothing about the reality.

Omar Bakri Mohammed at a London rally in 2002

'I've always been a practising Muslim - I still pray every day, fast at Ramadan and try to live mylife according to the Koran - and there are some things I could never do because of that, like

    dancing naked.

'All I ever did was enjoy myself in the same way most young people in Britain do and now I'm

    being punished for it.'

When Bakri, now living in Lebanon and banned from returning to Britain, first heard of his

daughter's raunchy secret existence, he declared himself 'deeply shocked'.

Yet although Yasmin's upbringing was undoubtedly strict, and characterised by many of the

tensions common to children growing up torn between two cultures, when she speaks of her

father, it is not of the fanatical 'Tottenham Ayatollah' vilified for ranting about the destruction ofWestern values and praising the 'magnificent' September 11 bombers.

Instead, she describes him as a warm, kind and funny man who simply tried to protect his

children from negative influences, like any other caring parent.

Perhaps the most surprising aspect of Yasmin's story is the love and respect she still holds for her

father, which leads her to a naive belief that the extreme statements attributed to him must have

    been misreported.

'He may have strong views but the man I know would never hurt anyone, or wish for anyone tobe hurt,' she says.

The Bakri family moved to Enfield, North London, in 1986, when Yasmin - born Youssra - was

    four.

Her father came from a wealthy family in Syria and her mother, Hanan, was born in Lebanon.

Prior to moving to London, Bakri had already been arrested by the Saudi Arabian government

for starting a cell of the banned Hizb ut-Tahrir organisation there.

Once in London, he spent a decade building up the Hizb ut-Tahrir movement in Britain, initiallyas a mainstream political organisation that was supportive of international Islamist causes but did

not associate itself with jihad movements.

As well as Yasmin and her older brother Muhammad, Bakri and Hanan went on to have four

more children: Abdul, Rukan, Rayah and Bilal.

'As a child I was aware that my dad was important to the Muslim community, but I didn't know

    what he did,' says Yasmin.

'He was very keen not to bring work home with him and he would never discuss it with us. The

phone rang constantly for him but he would take the calls in private.

'One thing I always knew was that he believed very strongly in religion. Islam was everything to

him and when we were young, it was everything to us, too.

Happier times: Bakri with his wife Hanan and Yasmin (standing at left), Muhammad and Abdulin the mid-Eighties

'He was a loving dad and would make us laugh by telling us stories of his childhood. He insisted

we eat breakfast, lunch and dinner together if we were all at home and we would talk about

normal things, such as school and our plans for the day.

'He taught us that, above all, it was important to be a good Muslim, but also to question theworld around us.

'He never shared his own views about politics with us - I think he wanted us to form our own.

'If we misbehaved he would tell us off, but he never shouted or hit us. I wasn't scared of him.'

When Yasmin reached puberty she began to cover her head in public, according to Islamic

custom, and was lectured by her father on the perils of mixing with boys, wearing revealing

clothing and drinking and taking drugs.

'My father was against what he called "free mixing", meaning men and women socialising withone another. He preferred me to have female friends rather than male, and I wasn't even allowed

to do PE lessons if they were mixed.

'I spent my teenage years behaving according to the way I knew my mum and dad wanted me to.

'If I went round to a friend's house I would be back by

7pm and I never wore anything he would disapprove of -nothing tight or revealing. If he saw me trying to leave the

house wearing something he didn't like, he would tell me

    to get changed.

'I always loved dancing, but if I had pop music on he

would ask me to turn it off, saying he didn't want me to beinfluenced by it as so much of it was about drugs or sex.

'Because he was so against drugs and alcohol, saying theywould poison my mind, I was never interested in them

then and I've never touched them since.

'I always prayed five times a day and attended Islamic

circles, which were meetings for groups of Muslim girls

where we would be taught the laws and customs of Islamand our role as women.

'My dad was much less strict with the boys than with me. Iwas expected to be a role model for my sisters as I was the

eldest and I wanted to make him proud of me.'

Bakri has been strongly criticised for denouncing British

values while costing taxpayers 250,000 to raise his

    family here on benefits.

Yasmin defends him, saying he was incapable of working. 'He had disabilities and couldn'twork,' she says, although she does not know what was wrong with him.

Yasmin recalls that during her teenage years, she saw less and less of Bakri, who she says

frequently travelled around the country for what she assumed was his business.

In 1996, Bakri split with Hizb ut-Tahrir and established an independent organisation, Al-

Muhajiroun. Within the next few years, it was to emerge as increasingly extremist.

When she was 14, she met her future husband, a Turkish Cypriot martial arts instructor five years

her senior, whom she does not wish to name, through her older brother Muhammad.

'They were best friends, but then gradually he started to call for me instead of Muhammad. I

couldn't hide what was going on from my parents so my dad quickly realised I had a boyfriend.

'He told me that if we wanted to have a relationship we would have to get engaged and perform

the nikkah - the signing of the Muslim marriage contract.'

Their union, which took place after Yasmin left her school in Enfield following her GCSEs, has

been described as an arranged marriage, but Yasmin disputes this.

'We married because we were in love,' she says. 'Nobody arranged it for us. My parents were

happy for me but I was never forced into it.'

She became pregnant at 17 with their first child, a boy, who was followed a year later by a girl. But despite being an 18-year-old mother of two, she realised she was beginning to hanker after a

more exciting life - the kind of life most girls her age were enjoying.

She says: 'My husband wasn't particularly religious so I was living a much more liberal life with

him. I started to question things like wearing my headscarf and wondered if I really needed to do

    it.

'I gradually stopped wearing it and started to buy tighter, more fashionable clothes and make-up.

I trained as a fitness instructor and started to work part-time at a gym. I really enjoyed being

independent and having my own money.'

She was introduced to London's nightclubs by her husband's brother. 'My husband didn't mind -he was quite happy to stay at home and look after the children, or we would leave them with his

    parents.

'I never drank but I adored dancing. The first few times I went clubbing I felt guilty because I

knew nightclubs were exactly the kind of place my dad would hate most, but I felt as if I'd

missed out on a normal teenage life and I was making up for it.

'I put my parents and their views to the back of my mind and just enjoyed myself.'

She says her foray into the world of nightclub dancing began when her husband's brother noticed

her passion for dancing and got her an audition with an agency called Untouched Entertainment,

which booked girls to dance on podiums at nightclubs.

'I was flattered when I got through the audition, and I started getting bookings to dance in clubs

around London for a few hours, one night a week.

'I danced in the big clubs like Equinox and the Hippodrome in Leicester Square, standing on apodium or the stage,' she says.

'I wore combat trousers and little vest tops and sometimes I'd be on stilts or even fire-breathing.

'I loved it and although I knew it was a long way from the way I'd been brought up, I didn't care.

'But I was never nude and the dancing was never around a pole, or lap-dancing. I've never even

been to a gentleman's club, only to normal nightclubs.'

It has been revealed that the agency she worked for also supplied girls for escort work, but

Yasmin claims she had no idea of this at the time.

She admits that when she went home to Enfield to visit her parents, she would wear her

headscarf to avoid rows. She says that at that time she hardly saw her father, who was thenpreaching at a mosque in Tottenham and continuing to run his organisation.

'My parents and my religious friends had no idea what I was doing. I knew they wouldn't

    approve,' she says.

Yasmin claims that after a couple of years, she tired of working in the clubs and stopped. 'I grew

out of it, I guess,' she says.

    Yasmin after her breast enhancement

It was around this time that the September 11 atrocities happened in New York and Bakri began

to gain notoriety for his extreme views, declaring: 'When I first heard about it, there was someinitial delight about such an attack. I received a phone call and said, "Oh wow, the United States

has come under attack." It was exciting.'

  • 8/9/2019 Daughter of MI6 ASSET Omer Bakri Pole Dancing Revelations

    10/13

In the late Nineties Bakri had become increasingly radical, issuing a warning to British Jews that

if they supported Israel 'financially, verbally or physically' they would be killed.

But it was in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks that Bakri moved towards the philosophy of Al

Qaeda and became infamous. His organisation gained notoriety for praising the 9/11 hijackers as

    'the magnificent 19'.

But as her father began to attract more attention, Yasmin claims she shied away from confrontinghim over his views.

'Like anyone else, I was horrified by the attacks in New York, and then by the bombings in

    London.

'I saw in the papers that my dad seemed to be making people very angry with his views, so I

deliberately decided not to ask him what he thought. I knew my own views were different so I

didn't want to cause a row by speaking to him about it.'

Although Bakri is believed to have strong links with Al Qaeda, Yasmin says: 'I never believed,

and I still don't, that he has ever had anything to do with hurting people. I think he just has his

    opinions.'

In 2003, Yasmin's marriage fell apart when she met Mustafa Mehmet, a mechanic who becamethe father of her youngest son, Amir, who is now two.

During their relationship, which lasted three years, Yasmin had her breasts enhanced from a B-cup to a DD. It has been claimed that her father paid for the operation, but she says she saved for

    it herself.

'I lost weight and wanted to have the operation to boost my confidence,' she says. 'My father

would never have approved. I never told him about it, but obviously he noticed.

'My mum tried to tell him I had just grown, but then she admitted I'd had the operation.

'He wasn't delighted, but didn't say anything to me. He could see I was moving on and changing

because by then I had stopped wearing my headscarf altogether and had split up with both fathers

    of my children.

'My dad begged me to try to make it work with my husband and then with Mustafa and was

    upset when I couldn't.

'My two eldest children went to live with their paternal grandparents because I knew they could

give them a better life than me, which also upset my dad. But all he ever said to me was that hehoped one day I would come back to my religion.'

In 2005, Bakri left Britain for Lebanon, accompanied by his wife and their three youngest

children. The then Home Secretary, Charles Clarke, banned him from returning, declaring thathis presence in Britain was 'not conducive to the public good'.

Yasmin said she only learned they had left weeks after the event. 'My mum didn't want to worry

me, but when I heard he wasn't welcome back here, I was very worried.'

Hanan tried to start a new life with Bakri in Lebanon, but missed her other children and returnedto Britain. Bakri is now married to a 26-year-old Lebanese woman.

'I thought my family was falling apart, so I was very upset for a time,' says Yasmin. 'My dad cut

off contact with us all, so I missed him a lot and was concerned for his safety.'

When news of Yasmin's alleged pole-dancing career broke two months ago, threats were posted

on internet sites by extremists saying she should die for bringing shame on her religion.

Early days: Muhammad, Abdul and Yasmin with their father Bakri

She became so upset at the furore that she says she attempted to kill herself by taking an

    overdose of paracetamol.

'I was terrified someone would hurt me because so many awful things were being written about

me. I had members of my family telling me they were ashamed of me. Nobody wanted to hear

    my side of the story.

'I took a lot of paracetamol and my boyfriend called an ambulance.

When I got to the hospital, I realised I didn't want to die - I havechildren to live for.'

Yasmin was so frightened for her safety that the police moved her to

a safe house. She also received her first phone call from her father inyears. Far from being angry, she says he was worried for her, and

    supportive.

'He told me he loved me, and to stay strong. I apologised but he said I

didn't need to seek his forgiveness, only God's.

'He said the papers had run the story to get back at him and to attack

our religion. Part of me feels angry with him for bringing this on me,but part of me agrees with him that he's been attacked unfairly.

'Whatever his views, he's my dad. I love him and I believe that he's a good person.'

Radical preacher Omar Bakri Mohammed has divorced his wife and taken a new bride half his

    age.

Bakri, 50, who was exiled to Lebanon after praising the 9/11 attacks and blaming the

Government and the British public for the 7/7 London blasts which killed 52, has married 26-

    year-old Ruba.

It follows a separation from his 48-year-old wife Hanah - the mother of his six children - aftershe refused to stay with him and moved back to England.

A source in Lebanon said: Omars wife came out to stay with him after he was first kicked out

of Britain but she couldnt cope. She complained that she had no freedom and couldnt goanywhere without her husband.

They ended up having furious rows, with her saying she couldnt bear living like a prisoner.

He said, Go back to England then and live your little life on income support. She did as hewished and never came back - and now hes got a younger model.

His new wife is a strict Muslim and is a year younger than his oldest daughter Yasmin, 27, who

was recently revealed to be a pole dancer.

Ruba is helping bring up Omars 10-year-old son Bilal at the couples luxury home in a suburbof Beirut.

Hanah has also remarried. She wed a 35-year-old Pakistani shopkeeper who runs a business near

her state-funded semi in Edmonton, north London, eight months ago. It has recently come to

light that Bakri paid for his daughters 4,000 breast surgery, unwittingly launching her career.
