Well Done! Thank you to all the visitors who came along and enjoyed our Education Week activities. The children and staff were delighted with the number of visitors to the Learning Neighbourhoods as we celebrated Education Week. As I mentioned in the last newsletter the students enjoy sharing their school day with family and friends. A recount of the week is also included in this newsletter. It was fantastic to see so many students dressed up in their career ambitionoutfits on Friday. The total amount raised for the Make A Wish Foundationwas $432.00. The Year 7 students are looking forward to their camp to Phillip Island next week. Lets hope the weather is kind to us! We have also increased the height of our bike shed due to recent theft where the perpetrator climbed over the wall and stole a bike and a scooter. Fortunately we have CCTV and have sent this through to the police. We do urge members of our community to please contact the Narre Warren police should they see anything suspicious occurring on our grounds outside school hours. Please take a few minutes to read the page included in this newsletter. The beautiful autumn weather with chilly mornings and warm afternoons has resulted in the pile of lost property mounting so if your child/children have lost any items of school uniform please feel free to have a look on the Lost Property rack in the gym foyer. It is amazing the number of jumpers and jackets that are not named. I know as a mum that after a number of washes the names can fade. It may be a good idea to check all items of clothing to ensure names are clearly visible. We appreciate the effort families take in supporting our school uniform policy and know it can be very costly to replace items so we always endeavour to return the named clothing. Jan Adamson

For Education Week we

read Alpacas with

Maracas as a part of

National Simultaneous

Storytime. I chose to make

a maraca and wrote a pro-

cedure on how to make it.

In our lesson in Education Week we investigated and compared two stories of

King Arthur.

We identified the characters from the Alpha Show of King Arthur and chose a

character that we would like to be from the story. We investigated each

character’s costume and tried them on.

Our Education Week activity was

interesting. We wrote our words for

what was happening in the story

because there was only pictures. It

was unexpected to read a book with

no words.

Daniel and Axel 5C

We created a double portrait with two

children. We had to colour in with

crayon leaving no white bits then

outline with black texta. At the end we

will choose a coloured background and

mount it onto a picture frame.

Soheil and Mason 1Y

This term we investigated and

drew doves and peace symbols.

We have just finished making,

painting, decorating and

displaying our clay peace

doves. Nima 5C

I loved having my Mum at school – she

helped me with my Maths challenge.

Declan Laidler 3C

My favourite part was doing the ‘real

‘Kids Safe’

Timbarra College P-9 is committed to ensuring that all students understand what action to take if they are feeling unsafe. All schools are required to comply with Ministerial Order No. 870 - Child Safe Standards. We have implemented a number of policies and protocols, which relate to all staff, students and visitors to our school. You will find our policies on the Timbarra website. I am including in this week’s Newsletter, infor-mation that reminds our students about what to do if they feel unsafe. In the administration building (office) we also have our ‘Kids Safe’ letterbox where students can post a confi-dential letter requesting support from a nominated member of staff. Last year we received 46 letters, all of which are actioned and for several outside agencies are involved if needed.

NEWS FROM SICK BAY

With the recent weather we have had children attending Sick Bay with wet and muddy clothes.

We only have a small supply of spare clothes for emergencies.

It would be greatly appreciated if Parents/Guardians could please put spare clothes (including socks & underwear) into their child’s bag for such occasions.

————————————————————

A reminder also, that if your child is unwell, that they remain at home, this will prevent the spread of an illness at school and also aid their recovery; with colds/flu, rest and fluids are the best remedy.

MEDICATIONS AT SCHOOL AND CAMP

A reminder to Parents/Guardians, that medication CANNOT be administered to students UNLESS, the medica-tion is provided by the Parent/Guardian and it is accompanied with a completed, signed Medication Authority Form, outlining dosage and times to be taken.

These forms are available from the Office or Sick Bay.

Medication cannot be administered without written consent from the Parent/Guardian.

Student’s are not permitted to self administer and be in possession of medications at school or on camp.

Your help with this matter is greatly appreciated.

As per the Department of Education’s guidelines and policy;

Any student diagnosed with Asthma MUST have an Asthma Action Plan completed by their Medical Practitioner.

These are required to be updated annually OR if there is any change to your child’s condition.

Please also supply the school with the student’s personal Ventolin and spacer, clearly labelled with their name and class

HAVE YOU CHECKED YOUR CHILD’S HAIR THIS WEEK?

We encourage all parents/guardians to check their children’s hair weekly for head lice.

If lice are detected, please treat and notify the school. Contacting the school, allows us to notify parents of that class about an outbreak (no names are mentioned, it is strictly confidential).

It is working together to break the cycle that provides the most reliable and effective form of treatment for head lice.

Pamphlets on how to treat head lice are available from Sick Bay.

We thank you for your help with this matter.
