I. After a quorum was established, the regular meeting was called to order by President Linda Hinders.

II. The Board entered into closed session under Texas Government Code Section 551.074 at 6:17 p.m. and reconvened at 6:55 p.m. for action related to the items discussed.

III. A public hearing was held to discuss 2014-2015 Budget and Proposed Tax Rate. No public comments were made.

IV. Motion by Mr. Murphy, seconded by Mrs. Wiegand to approve the August 11, 2014 minutes as presented. Motion carried unanimously.

V. Mr. Wartes shared first day of school enrollment as 9345.

VI. Mr. Wartes and Debbie Boyer reported on the Fall Conference that was held for employees on August 18.

VII. Mr. Wartes reported that Friday, August 29 will be Safety Day and safety drills will be held at all campuses.

VIII. Motion by Mr. Spradlin, seconded by Mr. Darnell to adopt EIC (LOCAL) as presented. Motion carried unanimously.

IX. Motion by Mr. Cobb, seconded by Mrs. Wiegand to approve 2013-14 general fund budget amendment as presented. Motion carried unanimously.

X. Motion by Mr. Murphy, seconded by Mrs. Girard to approve the general fund, food service fund and debt service fund budgets as presented. General Fund: Revenues $66,136,968

Expenses $65,209,321Budgeted Fund Balance $ 927,647

Food Service Fund: Revenues $ 3,933,606Expenses $ 3,912,587Budgeted Fund Balance $ 21,019

Debt Service Fund: Revenues $ 6,434,424Expenses $ 6,434,424Balanced Budget

Motion carried unanimously.

XI. Motion by Mrs. Wiegand, seconded by Mr. Darnell to adopt a tax rate of $1.215 for the 2014-2015 fiscal year pursuant to the attached Resolution. Motion carried unanimously.

XII. Motion by Mr. Murphy, seconded by Mr. Spradlin to accept the following donations with gratitude in accordance with board policy:

$500 from Middle Point Community Fellowship for Lakeview Elementary

Motion carried unanimously.

XIII. Motion by Mrs. Wiegand, seconded by Mr. Cobb to accept the administrative recommendation to employ Jennifer Manning, Tiffani Dunlap, Tessa Weston, Tiffany Downey, Stephanie Clayton, Katie Gove, and Crystal Burgess for the 2014-15 school year, with compensation as determined by local salary schedule and subject to assignment by the superintendent. Motion carried unanimously.

XIV. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 7:40 p.m.

ADOPTION OF THE 2015 TAX RATE FOR THE

CANYON INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT

“BE IT ORDAINED AND ORDERED by the Board of Education of the Canyon Independent School District that”

The Board of Education of Canyon Independent School District, does hereby levy or adopt the tax rate on $100 valuation for this School District for the year 2015 as follows:

$ 1.0400 for the purpose of maintenance and operation$ .1750 for the payment of principal and interest on debt of this school

district

$ 1.215 total tax rate

THIS TAX RATE WILL RAISE MORE TAXES FOR MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS THAN LAST YEAR’S RATE.

Be it further ordained and ordered that the Board of Education of Canyon Independent School District adopt the levy that this tax rate generates.

The tax assessor-collector is hereby authorized to assess and collect the taxes of the Canyon Independent School District, employing the above tax rate.

The above order was passed by the Board of Education of the Canyon Independent School District on the 25th of August 2014.
