TO: MAYOR AND COUNCIL NAME AND TITLE: Caroline Ross, Chair, Prince George Heritage Commission SUBJECT: Prince George Heritage Commission 2016 Annual Report ATTACHMENT(S): 2017 Work Plan
PowerPoint Presentation City of Prince George Heritage Commission Bylaw No. 8133, 2008
ACHIEVEMENTS IN 2016: Heritage Buildings / Heritage Register: The Commission had a very productive and successful year in this area, building strongly on work begun in 2015. Led by Hillary Morgan, City Planner, the Commission has addressed several challenges and moved several properties forward for further action/research. Accomplishments in 2016 include: Added two properties to the Prince George Heritage Register: Pitman House (2387 McBride Cres) and
Munro/Moffat House (153 Moffat St N). These were the first additions to the Heritage Register since 2007.
Created a Heritage Register brochure, now available at City Hall and online. Created a Heritage Register web page, including a list of resources for property owners who wish to
renovate or restore heritage buildings. Developed and approved six Statements of Significance for heritage properties; drafted several more
Statements for further assessment. Communicated with property owners to provide advice on heritage aspects of building renovation,
provide education about the Heritage Register, and/or extend invitations to add properties to the Register.
RECOMMENDATION(S):
1. That the report dated March 8, 2017 from the Chair of the Prince George Heritage Commission titled “Prince George Heritage Commission 2016 Annual Report”, BE RECEIVED FOR INFORMATION; and
2. That the 2017 Workplan attached to the report dated March 8, 2017 from the Chair of the Prince George Heritage Commission titled “Prince George Heritage Commission 2016 Annual Report”, BE APPROVED.
