Principals ReportHaving come just over halfway through the year, we will soon be distribung the School Opinion Surveys to each family in the school via the oldest child. The survey is designed to anonymously get the views of parents, staff and children about how the school meets each stakeholdersneeds. The survey report provides me with very valuable informaon, which I analyse each year, and use to help idenfy what is working well for our community, and set improvement targets for the following year. If you have difficulty in accessing the online survey at home, we can provide a laptop or iPad for you to use at school to complete your survey. It really does provide a wealth of informaon from our stakeholders, so Id like to encourage all parents to complete the online survey. This year, we have enrolled in a pilot program with Life Educaon (who bring the Healthy Harold van each year) called Healthy Eats. The program is all about encouraging kids to eat and enjoy the world of fruit and veg. The Australian Government Food Guidelines recommends children eat two serves of fruit and five serves of vegetables every day. Currently, only seven percent of North Queensland kids are eang enough fruit and veg. This puts them at risk of obesity, infecons, and poor growth and development. To encourage the children to eat more healthily, classes 3/4C, 4A, 5A, 5B, 5/6C and 6A will be parcipang in a compeon. Each day for the next 4 weeks, children will be recording how many serves of fruit and vegetables they consume each day, with the class with the highest consumpon winning a prize from Life Educaon. On Friday, August 23 we will be hosng the annual Walkerston community Book Week Parade. The involvement of all families and the effort people put into their costumes is always amazing. The theme for this years parade is, Reading gives you super powers”. The P&C Fair is also coming up in a few weeks. The Fair is the P&Cs major fundraising event. This year, the P&Cs main project for the school will be revamping the outdoor learning environment outside the Prep classrooms, so your aendance and support will have a direct impact on the learning and engagement of all our children. Much more than that, though, it is a fantasc event which brings the whole community together, so I look forward to seeing you there! It may seem like a long way off sll, but we are busily working with our local Early Childhood Centres and Secondary Schools to prepare students for smooth transions into 2020. Over the next two terms, we will be hosng Kindy children in our Prep classrooms, and be receiving visits from Mirani State High and Mackay State High. These visits will be aimed at providing informaon to the students about their upcoming moves into the next stage of their learning, but also for the secondary schools to see what learning experiences our children currently engage in, so these can inform teacher pracce at high school. I look forward to working together through whats already a very busy Term 3! Our You Can Do It targets for weeks 3 and 4, Term 3: Enters and leaves rooms in a quiet manner. Principal’s Report—

Having come just over halfway through the year, we will soon be distributing the School Opinion Surveys to

each family in the school via the oldest child. The survey is designed to anonymously get the views of parents, staff and children about how the school meets each stakeholders’ needs. The survey report provides me with very valuable information, which I analyse each year, and use to help identify what is working well for our community, and set improvement targets for the following year. If you have difficulty in accessing the online survey at home, we can provide a laptop or iPad for you to use at school to complete your survey. It really does provide a wealth of information from our stakeholders, so I’d like to encourage all parents to complete the online survey.

This year, we have enrolled in a pilot program with Life Education (who bring the Healthy Harold van each year) called Healthy Eats. The program is all about encouraging kids to eat and enjoy the world of fruit and veg. The Australian Government Food Guidelines recommends children eat two serves of fruit and five serves of vegetables every day. Currently, only seven percent of North Queensland kids are eating enough fruit and veg. This puts them at risk of obesity, infections, and poor growth and development. To encourage the children to eat more healthily, classes 3/4C, 4A, 5A, 5B, 5/6C and 6A will be participating in a competition. Each day for the next 4 weeks, children will be recording how many serves of fruit and vegetables they consume

each day, with the class with the highest consumption winning a prize from Life Education.

On Friday, August 23 we will be hosting the annual Walkerston community Book Week Parade. The involvement of all families and the effort people put into their costumes is always amazing. The theme for this year’s parade is, “Reading gives you super powers”.

The P&C Fair is also coming up in a few weeks. The Fair is the P&C’s major fundraising event. This year, the P&C’s main project for the school will be revamping the outdoor learning environment outside the Prep classrooms, so your attendance and support will have a direct impact on the learning and engagement of all our children. Much more than that, though, it is a fantastic event which brings the whole community together, so I look forward to seeing you there!

It may seem like a long way off still, but we are busily working with our local Early Childhood Centres and Secondary Schools to prepare students for smooth transitions into 2020. Over the next two terms, we will be hosting Kindy children in our Prep classrooms, and be receiving visits from Mirani State High and Mackay State High. These visits will be aimed at providing information to the students about their upcoming moves into the next stage of their learning, but also for the secondary schools to see what learning experiences our children currently engage in, so these can inform teacher practice at high school.

I look forward to working together through what’s already a very busy Term 3!

Cultural News

Megaband – Well done to those students who participated in Senior

Megaband today. It was a wonderful concert. A lot of time and

dedication from both students and parents go into the instrumental

program and we thank you for that.

Musical – It is 6 weeks away till Walkerston State School brings to

you “The Tale of Cy”. Tickets will be available on the night or from

the office as of August 16.

Students involved in the musical please make sure you are attending

as many rehearsals as possible as we are putting the finishing touches

together.

Fair- A note will go home tomorrow about the fair. We are fortunate

that the P and C would like to showcase our talented students. Please

return the note even if you are unavailable (there is an option on the

note) as this will help Miss Kay with set-up.

The school would like to wish Lacey and Nate Bloye all the best in their performance on Saturday night with A’Choir’d Pitch and Opera Australia. It is wonderful to see our students sharing their talents in the community.
