HEAD LICE
Recently there has been reported cases of head lice so
it is important that all parents check their children
and other family members for head lice regularly.
The most effective way is by using the hair conditioner and
combing method. You will need white coloured hair conditioner, an ordinary
come, a fine tooth head lice comb and white tissue/
kitchen towel.
Apply conditioner to dry hair completely covering scalp and hair from roots to tips. Use ordinary comb to detangle hair and distribute conditioner. Divide into 4 sections, comb hair from root tops using fine tooth head lice comb. After each stroke wipe the come onto a white tissue, checking the comb and tissue for head lice., Comb the whole head, checking for lice.
Put all tissues in a plastic bag, tie the top and put the bag in a rubbish bin.
SWIMMING TERM 1 Swimming is on every week for all students from Year 1 to Year 3/4.
Students will need to make sure they have their swimming equipment and $2:00 each week for their lesson.

Dear Parents, As another school term comes to a close, we are still in the midst of assessing student learning, analysing data and participating in Professional Development as well as preparing for the school’s Cross Country and ANZAC Ceremony on Friday. Twenty-four students from Years 2 to 7 have registered for one or more of the subjects in the 2014 International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS) tests. The sitting dates for the tests will be held during Terms 2 and 3. They involve Computer Skills, Science, Writing, Spelling, English, and Mathematics. Our students performed very well last year with Lavieen Uthayakumar awarded a gold medal as he was the top achiever in his subject (Science) in his year level in Queensland. We wish this year’s ICAS participants the best of luck and to have fun during the preparation. Every day counts; every minute counts As we reach the end of Term 1, all parents and carers are reminded of the importance of sending children to school on time, every day. Being at school every day counts - one day absent each week quickly adds up to two months of missed schooling in a year. One hour late each day rapidly adds up to one school day absent. Unless your child is ill, it is expected that your child will be at school learning every day of the school year. Holidays, shopping and parties are not accepted as excuses for absence by Education Queensland. More information on the importance of regular school attendance is available at http://education.qld.gov.au/everydaycounts/index.html Encourage your child to learn by showing the importance of books and reading. A
simple way is to create a place where s/he can store books. You can also encourage your child to borrow books from the school library, allowing you to spark interest in reading during school holidays. If you are not sure where to start looking for books that appeal to your child, ask the community librarian or your child’s teacher. Encourage the whole family to join the community library. Libraries usually sponsor reading events and clubs for children, offering a great way for your child to enjoy reading with her friends. Allow your child to choose his/her own books. Some books will be too hard for your child to read alone. If s/he needs help with more than five words on the page, this is an ideal book for you to read to your child. Children learn a lot about reading by being read to, and this will help them see that you are interested in reading, too.
Allow your child to experience the pleasure of choosing books. Don’t worry if s/he wants to read the same book more than once. Just as a musician enjoys playing the same piece of music many times, so a young reader can get something more from a book each time s/he reads it. Rhyming books help your child pay attention to the sounds of words. Books with repeated words and phrases help your child learn about the sounds of language and patterns in words. KEEP A WATCH ON OUR SCHOOL THESE HOLIDAYS
With the holidays fast approaching, we need you to look out for after-hours crime in our school. If you see anything suspicious, please call School Watch on 13 17 88.
The School Watch program is a partnership between the Department of Education, Training and Employment, the Queensland Police Service and the State Government Protective Security Service. It aims to reduce vandalism, theft and arson in Queensland schools.
If you do see something suspicious, please don’t attempt to intervene. Call the School Watch number and let the local police or State Government Protective Security Service deal with the matter. Keep the number handy—13 17 88—and let’s work together to help create a safer school community.
