Growing Healthy Babies

Make Healthy Choices Before You Get Pregnant

It’s Almost Time!

Keeping You and Your Baby Healthy During Your Pregnancy

q Take a multivitamin with folic acid

q Eat a balanced diet and stay active and fit

q Visit your health care provider for regular checkups

q See your dentist for regular exams and cleanings

q Remain up to date on your immunizations

Pack your bag ahead of time.

Have a going home outfit for

baby as well as a few comfy

options for yourself and

personal care products.

Go to all your prenatal care checkups, even if you are feeling fine. It is important to talk to your doctor about questions that you have. They are there to take care of you.

Install a proper child seat restraint (infant seat) in your car prior to going to the hospital. Follow the installation instructions. All infants should ride in a rear-facing car seat until they are 2 years old or they reach the highest weight or height allowed by their car seat’s manufacturer. Visit www.HealthyChildren.org for more help and to find an inspection station near you.

Talk to your doctor about the options you have during labor and write a birth plan to provide him/her. Bring this plan to the hospital for your delivery nurse to see as well.

Continue to eat healthy and stay as active as you have been during your pregnancy, unless your doctor tells you otherwise.

• Set up a safe sleep nursery for your baby and visit AZDHS.gov/baby or SafeSleepAZ.org

• Child Safety Seats - visit NHTSA.gov to find a location near you to inspect your car seat.

• Breastfeeding - Call 1-800-833-4642 with any questions.

• Women, Infants and Children (WIC) at 1-800-252-5942 • MaricopaWIC. com • AZDHS.gov/azwic - nutrition and breastfeeding information and support, nutritious food, and referrals to community resources.

• Pregnancy and Breastfeeding Hotline at 1-800-833-4642 www.HealthyChildren.org/breastfeeding

• Arizona Alliance for Community Health Centers • AACHC.org – community health centers are non-profit clinics located in rural and urban areas throughout Arizona. They provide medical care to anyone regardless of insurance status.

• Arizona Department of Health Services Healthy Babies • AZDHS.gov/baby – provides information and resources about WIC, safe sleep nurseries, healthy eating, vitamins and more.

• Strong Families AZ - StrongFamiliesAZ.com – is a network of home visiting programs that helps families raise healthy children ready to succeed in school and in life. Services include health education and screenings, parenting guidance, community referrals, and much more – all at no cost to you!
