Woodrow Campbell Hand Delivered Utah Department of Environmental Quality Division of Water Quality P.O. Box 144870 Salt Lake City, UT 84114-4810 April Abate Utah Department of Natural Resources Minerals Branch of the Division of Oil, Gas and Mining – M0490062 PO Box 145801 Salt Lake City, Utah 84114-5801 SUBJECT: Results of Kappes Cassiday CN Destruction Test of Trixie Tails

Dear Ms. Abate and Mr. Campbell,

Please find enclosed copies of the analytical results provided by KCA for the Trixie Tails. There are two

results provided:

• Profile 1 & WAD Cyanide;

• MWMP Profile 1 & WAD Cyanide

Profile 1 & WAD Cyanide results are direct results from the effluent stream from the tails.

MWMP Profile 1 & WAD Cyanide results are results from the potential long-term leaching of metals from

the tails themselves.

The Tails were the result of a lab-scale bottle roll performed by KCA. The Trixie ore was pulverized to p80

0.075 mm, then subjected to Carbon-in-Leach (CIL), which separates the gold from the solution via carbon

columns.

Two tails streams were produced: Direct Leach (KCA88639 A), and CIL (KCA88640 A).

Direct Leach Tails: tails from the Direct Leach (KCA88639 A) were not rinsed and detoxed, but were dried

directly after filtering the solution. As seen in the accompanying results the direct leach and drying of tails

resulted in a continued elevated pH as well as elevated levels of cyanide.

CIL Tails: tails from the CIL (KCA88640 A) were rinsed and detoxed following the leaching process. As seen

in the accompanying results, the destruction process successfully brought the pH to background standards,

and also significantly reduced the cyanide levels.

Of particular note, the results of the MWMP indicated that the detoxed tails long-term effluent stream was

generally within the Average concentration of the Burgin Mine Water (GW Discharge Permit Application,

Hydrogeologic Report). It should also be noted that the tails stream were not final-loaded on carbon, so

the concentrations of metals would generally appear to be higher in the attached analytical results than

what is anticipated to be seen during actual pilot operations.

If you have any questions on this memo, or the attached results, please feel free to call or e-mail to discuss

further.

Best Regards,

Dear: Terry Albert

Sincerely,

This is to transmit the attached analytical report. The analytical data and information contained therein

was generated using specified or selected methods contained in references, such as Standard Methods

for the Examination of Water and Wastewater, online edition, Methods for Determination of Organic

Compounds in Drinking Water, EPA-600/4-79-020, and Test Methods for Evaluation of Solid Waste,

Physical/Chemical Methods (SW846) Third Edition.

The samples were received by WETLAB-Western Environmental Testing Laboratory in good condition

on 2/26/2021. Additional comments are located on page 2 of this report.

If you should have any questions or comments regarding this report, please do not hesitate to call.

Report Legend

B Blank contamination; Analyte detected above the method reporting limit in an associated blank--

D Due to the sample matrix dilution was required in order to properly detect and report the analyte. The reporting limit has

been adjusted accordingly.

--

HT Sample analyzed beyond the accepted holding time--

J The reported value is between the laboratory method detection limit and the laboratory practical quantitation limit. The

reported result should be considered an estimate.

--

K The TPH Diesel Concentration reported here likely includes some heavier TPH Oil hydrocarbons reported in the TPH

Diesel range as per EPA 8015.

--

L The TPH Oil Concentration reported here likely includes some lighter TPH Diesel hydrocarbons reported in the TPH Oil

range as per EPA 8015.

--

M The matrix spike/matrix spike duplicate (MS/MSD) values for the analysis of this parameter were outside acceptance

criteria due to probable matrix interference. The reported result should be considered an estimate.

--

N There was insufficient sample available to perform a spike and/or duplicate on this analytical batch.--

NC Not calculated due to matrix interference--

QD The sample duplicate or matrix spike duplicate analysis demonstrated sample imprecision. The reported result should be

considered an estimate.

--

QL The result for the laboratory control sample (LCS) was outside WETLAB acceptance criteria and reanalysis was not

possible. The reported data should be considered an estimate.

--

S Surrogate recovery was outside of laboratory acceptance limits due to matrix interference. The associated blank and LCS

surrogate recovery was within acceptance limits

--

SC Spike recovery not calculated. Sample concentration >4X the spike amount; therefore, the spike could not be adequately

recovered

--

U The analyte was analyzed for, but was not detected above the level of the reported sample reporting/quantitation limit. The

reported result should be considered an estimate.

--

Per method recommendation (section 4.4), Samples analyzed by methods EPA 300.0 and EPA 300.1 have been filtered prior to analysis.

The following is an interpretation of the results from EPA method 9223B:

A result of zero (0) indicates absence for both coliform and Escherichia coli meaning the water meets the microbiological requirements of the

U.S. EPA Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA). A result of one (1) for either test indicates presence and the water does not meet the SDWA

requirements. Waters with positive tests should be disinfected by a certified water treatment operator and retested.

Per federal regulation the holding time for the following parameters in aqueous/water samples is 15 minutes: Residual Chlorine, pH, Dissolved

Oxygen, Sulfite.

General Lab Comments

The cation/anion balance for sample 21020822-001 was outside WETLAB acceptance criteria; however, reanalysis confirmed the failure. It

is possible the sample matrix interfered with the cation/anion ratio. We are unable to determine the cause at this time and apologize for any

inconvenience this may have caused.

Due to the sample matrix it was necessary to analyze the following at a dilution:

21020822-002 Most Parameters (due to sample matrix and very high TDS) The reporting limits have been adjusted accordingly and may not

meet NDEP-BMRR requirements. Lower reporting limits are not possible for a sample of this nature.

Solid samples are analyzed on an as-received, wet-weight basis, unless otherwise requested.

Sample preparation is defined by the client as per their Data Quality Objectives.

This report supercedes any previous reports for this Work Order. The complete report includes pages for each sample, a full QC report,

and a notes section.

Analyses were performed in accordance with SVL standard operating procedures and calibrations were performed and met SVL internal

QC criteria.

The results presented in this report relate only to the samples, and meet all requirements of the NELAC Standards unless otherwise noted.

This report shall not be reproduced except in full, without the written approval of SVL Analytical, Inc.

CRW 3/4/21 SVL received less than 5500 grams of each sample for MWM, so the bottle roll option was used.

Notes and Definitions

Target analyte was detected in extraction method blank above laboratory acceptance limits due to contamination introduced during the

extraction process.

B11

Sample required dilution due to matrix.D1

Sample required dilution due to high concentration of target analyte.D2

This test is specified to be performed in the field within 15 minutes of sampling; sample was received and analyzed past the regulatory

holding time.

H5

The spike recovery value is unusable since the analyte concentration in the sample is disproportionate to spike level. The LCS was

acceptable.

M3

The analysis of the spiked sample required a dilution such that the spike recovery calculation does not provide useful information. The LCS

recovery was acceptable.
