Our Chairman Dr. Kanodia delivered a motivational keynote address at the Annual Achievers Awards 2016 held on the 25th of April at Mumbai.
Drawing from his experiences over the past 5 decades, Dr. Kanodia spelled out 11 mantras which according to him are quintessential to the success of an enterprise.
FocusAccording to Dr. Kanodia, for an organization to succeed it needs to remain focused. Taking cue from how ADP by leveraging its experience in Payroll processing has risen to become a leader in payroll outsourcing services, he said “We cannot do too many things at the same time. A laser can cut through steel, unlike a beam of light that dissipates. For a company of our size, the first mantra is that we need is focus.”
ScaleDr. Kanodia believes that “to succeed under stiff competition, one needs to scale i.e. size. We have to mass produce.” He quoted the example of Toyota which has followed this mantra to reap immense gains in the highly competitive Automobile sector.
StandardizeIt is very difficult to both scale and increase your profits from custom built products. In order to achieve this Dr. Kanodia opined that one has to standardize one’s offerings; be it Products or Services. He quoted Henry Ford’s famous line, “You can buy any color of the Model T Ford, as long as it is black.”
WORD FROM THE CHAIRMAN
PersistIn order to succeed, a company has to persist. According to Dr. Kanodia, Steve Jobs’ journey illustrates the power of persistence since “despite his initial failures, and even his loss of job, he finally succeeded and built the world’s most valuable company, Apple Inc.”
Leverage First Mover AdvantageJust as Apple, the first to introduce the touch screen smart phone & Maruti, the first next generation Auto Company in India strategically leveraged their ‘First’ title to gain success, so must we leverage ‘First Mover Advantage’.
Be Confident & ProudAccording to Dr. Kanodia, “To succeed, an individual must have confidence in themselves, their company and their country”. He mentioned the heroic efforts of staff members of Hotel Taj during the 26/11 attacks. It was pride in their organization that made them risk their lives.
Intellectual PropertyThe world’s most valuable companies today, such as Google, Microsoft, Facebook are leveraging their IP’s. Citing them as examples to follow Dr. Kanodia stated, “We need to leverage our IP. We have gems and jewels in our storeroom.”
Productivity, Quality & CollaborationDr. Kanodia emphasized on the importance of being quality
conscious as it is what differentiates organizations and that achieving it is not difficult since, “Quality does not increase cost. In fact, it decreases cost.” He also stressed on the need to build collaboration and co-opetition and cited Code Share engagement carried out by Airlines as a good example to learn from.
Brand EquitySpeaking of Brand Equity as a mantra to success he said, “We need to consciously create brand equity for our company.” Reminiscing the time he travelled with Ratan Tata, he mentioned the Tata scion telling him, “that the greatest asset that the Tatas had was the name Tata.”
Value Based PricingIn Dr. Kanodia’s view, prices should be based on what the customer is willing to pay and not on what our cost is. Explaining this he elaborated, “If one of our software solutions can save a company Rs. 10 crores p.a. on a recurring basis, we should not sell it for a few lakhs of rupees.”
PeopleIn his address Dr. Kanodia emphasized on the importance of investing in talented people. He stated that “the most important asset, particularly in our business, is People. We must make very special efforts to hire the best. We need to reward them. They will make or break us. In the software field, it is People that finally matter.”

TECHGEEKGOOGLE CHROMECAST
Are you one of those millennials hooked to streaming apps like Netflix? Do you like listening to music on your quality speakers that connect to your TV instead of your laptop or bluetooth speakers? Would you rather prefer watching your favorite movies and shows on your TV screen instead of your laptop? The new Google Chromecast 2 with its wire-free, hassle-free setup is the answer to your needs.
Chromecast 2 supports the 801.11/ac Wi-Fi standard, and can be connected to a 5GHz frequency. The original Chromecast was limited to 802.11 N standard with 2.4GHz frequency. The Chromecast 2 also has a better design than the original. It’s a flexible HDMI wire, connected to a circular dongle.

Photos on your phone can be shown on the big screen, with the Google Photos app. Like videos and photos, you can cast music from supported apps like Google Play Music to your TV to use any speakers connected to it. With the Chrome browser on your desktop, you can cast any tab or your entire computer’s screen to the TV. Similarly, you can mirror your entire Android device’s screen on the TV making it fantastic for presentations. You can also play Chromecast-supported Android games on the big screen.

DID YOU KNOW? Geese always fly together in
a V-formation because flying together helps reduce wind resistance, while also providing additional lift.
Scientists estimate that the entire flock can fly about 70% farther with the same amount of energy than if each goose flew alone.
The Spartans were not the greatest army the world has ever known because of individual strength or technology or sheer number. They were the greatest because of how they worked together. Just 300 Spartans held off Persia’s King Xerxes and his massive army for three days.
The Great Pyramid of Giza, constructed around 2,650 BC, which is the largest and most massive stone structure in the world represents a clear example of sustained high performance teamwork by an estimated 100,000 workers over a span of 20 years. The stones put together without mortar are fitted so perfectly that even a razor blade cannot go between them.
Humpback whales form alliances with one another based on individual hunting talent that they can bring to the group.
In groups of up to twenty, they employ a technique known as bubble-netting.
