Dastkar Ranthambhore Project              

Dastkari Kendra in Ranthambhore, Rajasthan, is next to one of India's largest tiger reserves and an

important tourist destination.

The Dastkari Kendra was set up as a rehabilitation measure to provide income support for those families displaced when the villages they were living in came

under the protected national park area.

The Kendra has provided regular income to the villagers since 1990.

Dastkar Ranthambhore forms a part of the Dastkar organization, which aims to preserve and strengthen

traditions of textile art.

They believe that income from this source means eventually less pressure on the forest land itself.

With support from Baba Sahib Ambedkar Hastshilp Vikas Yojana training and technical aid has been provided to these women where there was no means of income

Today the Kendra provides training to about 300 women earning around Rs 1500/- to Rs 4000/- per month.

Ujwala Johda, business manager at Dastkar has turned around the Kendra reaching out to many international buyers and funding organizations.

The Kendra today houses a production Center, raw material store, office, sales outlet, training workshops apart from accommodating guest room

and a local community center.
