Instrument Panel IndicatorsIndicators should go out shortly afterstarting the engine. If an indicator stays onor comes on while driving, follow theinstructions in the description. • Red indicators are critical and require

immediate attention.• Amber indicators are urgent and require

attention as soon as possible.• Blue and green indicators are used for

general information.

Charging system indicator:Battery is not being charged; seedealer as soon as possible.

Low oil pressure indicator: Lowoil pressure; turn the engine off assoon as safely possible.

Security system indicator: Blinkswhen the security system is armed.

Supplemental restraint system (SRS) indicator:SRS malfunction; see dealer as soon aspossible.*

Seat belt reminder light: Fasten seat belts.

Parking brake and brake system indicator:Parking brake on, low brake fluid level.

Door and trunk open monitor: Comes on if thetrunk lid is left open. Will go out after about 3minutes, even if the lid is not closed.

Malfunction indicator lamp (CHECK enginelight): Engine or emissions system malfunction;have dealer inspect the vehicle.

Maintenance minder indicator: A scheduledmaintenance is due; stays on if maintenance ispast due.

Engine Oil Life: Remaining engine oil life.

Maintenance Service Items: Three types ofmessages appear in the display: service duesoon, service due now, and service past due.

Low Tire Pressure/TPMS Indicator*When the indicator comes on, one ormore tires are significantly under-inflated. You should stop and check yourtires as soon as possible and, if needed,

inflate them to the proper pressure as indicatedon the tire information placard, located on thedriver’s doorjamb.

Tip: Tire pressure varies by temperature andother conditions. • Check the air pressure when the tires are cold.

This means the vehicle has been parked for atleast 3 hours or driven less than 1 mile.

• The indicator may come on when you first startyour vehicle, then go off when friction raisesthe tire temperature. Even if the indicator goesoff, always check the pressure and adjust asrequired.

Information Display*

Your vehicle displays engine oil life andmaintenance service items on the informationdisplay; see your owner’s manual for details.

Cruise Control

Set/Decel button: Sets cruise control (CRUISECONTROL indicator lit) if speed is above 25 mph,or decreases the set speed if cruise control is set.

Res/Accel button: Resumes set speed if thecruise control was canceled, or increases setspeed if cruise control is set.

Cancel button: Cancels cruise control. It does notturn off the cruise control system. You can resumea set speed if the cruise control was canceled. Youcan also cancel the cruise control by tapping thebrake pedal.

Setting the Clock (without Navigation)1. With the ignition ON (II), press the CLOCK

button until you hear a beep.2. Press and hold the H button (Preset 4) to set

the hour.3. Press and hold the M button (Preset 5) to set

the minutes.4. Press the CLOCK button again.

Note: On vehicles with navigation, the clock is setautomatically by the navigation system.

Cruise control masterbutton: Turns the cruisecontrol system on(CRUISE MAIN indicatorlit) and off. It does notset the cruise control.

Compass Operation (EX-L, EX-L V6 w/o Navi)

Your vehicle is equipped with a self-calibratingcompass system. Overall operation of thissystem can be affected when you drive:

• Near power lines or stations• Across bridges• Through tunnels• Over railroad crossings• Past large vehicles• Near large objects that can cause a magnetic

disturbance.

It can also be affected by accessories such asantennas and roof racks that are mounted bymagnets.

Compass Zone SelectionIn most areas, there is a variation betweenmagnetic north and true north. Zone selectionis required so the compass can compensate forthis variation. See the owner’s manual for zoneselection information.

CalibrationAt times, the compass may need to bemanually calibrated after exposure to a strongmagnetic field. If the compass seems to becontinuously showing the wrong direction andis not self-calibrating, or if the compass displayis blinking with the CAL indicator on, follow thecalibration procedure found in the owner’smanual.

Auto Lighting OffThe headlights, all exterior lights and all the instrumentpanel lights turn off within 15 seconds after you removethe key and close the driver's door.

Auto Lighting On (EX-L, EX-L V6 models)Turns on the headlights and all other exterior lights whenlow ambient lighting is detected.

interval speed.4. Wiper ON: Push the lever down:

a. INT (1st detent): Wipers operate intermittently.

b. LO (2nd detent): Long sweep intervals.

Adjust the steeringwheel (up, down, in or out) to the desired position.

Pull the lever underside the steering column toward you.Push the lever to fully lock it in place.

Manual Transmission

The vehicle isequipped with a clutchinterlock switch. Pushthe clutch pedal allthe way down whenstarting the engine.

1. With the ignition ON (II),move the switch to L (driver’sside) or R (passenger’s side).

2. Push the edge of the switchto adjust the mirror right, left,up, or down.

3. When finished, move theswitch back to the center (off)position.

Power Mirrors

Tip: If equipped, the outside mirror heaterscan be turned on by pressing the heatedmirror button.

Unlock button:Press once tounlock the driver’sdoor. Press againto unlock thepassenger’s door.Continue to holdthe button on thesecond press toopen the windowsand moonroof;release the buttonto stop.

Tip: If you do not open a door within 30 seconds, thedoors relock.Lock button: Press to lock both doors. Press againand a beep verifies that the doors are locked.

Tip: The doors will not lock if any door is not fullyclosed or the key is in the ignition. The beep will notsound if both doors, the hood, and the trunk are notfully closed.Trunk release button: Press and hold until the trunkopens.

Panic button: Press and hold for two seconds to turnon. Press any button on the remote transmitter or turnthe ignition to ON (II) to turn off. The panic mode turnsoff automatically after 30 seconds.

Tip: The panic mode will not work if the ignition is inON (II).

Locks/Windows/VSA®/Moonroof

Power Door Locks with Auto WindowOpen and Close Feature

• The master lock switch locks and unlocks bothdoors.

• Pull back on the driver’s door lock tab to lockboth doors. Push forward on the tab to unlockonly the driver’s door. The lock tab on thepassenger’s door locks and unlocks only thatdoor.

Unlock: To unlock only the driver’s door fromoutside, turn the key to the right and release.To unlock the passenger’s door, turn the keyagain. Continue to hold the key on the secondturn to open the windows and moonroof;release to stop.

Lock: To lock both doors from outside, turnthe key to the left and release. Turn the keyagain and hold to close the windows andmoonroof; release to stop.

Locks/Windows/VSA®/Moonroof

Power Windows

• The driver’s and passenger’s (if equipped)windows have an Auto Down and Auto Upfunction. Push the switch firmly down to thesecond detent and release it to fully lower thewindow. Pull the switch firmly back and releaseit to fully raise the window. The first detent isused to open or close the window to thedesired position.

• The main button controls power to thepassenger’s window. Push down on the buttonand the passenger’s window cannot be openedor closed. The button’s indicator will come on.

MainButton

Tip: The powerwindows can beoperated for 10 minutes after theignition is turned off.This is cancelled byopening either door.

Tip: The moonroofoperates for 10minutes after theignition switch isturned off. This iscancelled by openingany door.

Moonroof (if equipped)

• Open: Pull back fully, then release (auto open),or until the desired position is reached.

• Close: Push forward fully, then release (auto close) or until the desired position is reached.

• Tilt: Push up on the middle of the switch untilthe desired position is reached.

• Pull up on the bar underthe seat cushion’s frontedge to move the seatforward and backward.Release the bar to lockthe seat into position.

• Pull up on the lever onthe outside of the seat tochange the angle of theseat-back. Release thelever to lock the seat-back into position.

Seats

Folding Rear Seat

The back of the rear seat folds down, givingyou direct access to the trunk. The seat-backcan be released from inside the trunk.

Tip: When storing cargo,you can move the rearcenter shoulder belt outof the way by removingthe belt from the guide.

1. Pull the releasehandle, locatedinside the trunkon the driver’sside.

2. Fully lower therear headrests.

3. From inside thevehicle, pullforward on therear seat-back.

4. To lock the seat-back upright,push it firmlyagainst the trunkpanel. Make sureit is latched inplace by pullingon the top of theseat.

Seat Heaters (if equipped)

Push the right of the switch (HI indicator lit) to heatup the seat. After the seat reaches a comfortabletemperature, set the heat to low by pushing the left ofthe switch (LO indicator lit).

• In HI, the heater turns off when the seat getswarm, and turns back on after the seat temperaturedrops. It continues to cycle as long as you leave itset on HI.

• In LO, the heater runs continuously. It does notcycle with temperature changes.

Note: Because of sensors for the side airbag system,there is no heater in the passenger’s seat-back. Onlythe seat bottom contains a heater.

Tip: The seat heaterswitches do not turn offautomatically when theignition is turned off. Theseat heaters will comeback on when theignition is turned to ON(II) unless the seatheater switches areturned off.

Using Manual Controls

Note: Control operations are described. Check yourvehicle for the types of controls used.Air conditioning (A/C) button: Turns the A/C on(indicator lit) and off.

Temperature control dial/switch: Selects the desiredtemperature.

Fan Control dial/switch: Changes the fan speed.Turn to OFF to turn the system off (for vehicles withAUTO A/C, press the OFF button). To keep stale airand mustiness from collecting, you should have thefan running at all times.

(LX-S and EX) Recirculated A/C comes from thedashboard vents for maximum cooling.

Airflow comes from the dashboard vents.

Airflow is divided between the dashboard andfloor vents.

Airflow comes from the floor vents.

Airflow is divided between the floor andwindshield (defroster) vents.

Airflow comes from the windshield (defroster)vents.

Recirculation button: Changes between recirculation(indicator lit) mode (inside air) and fresh air mode(outside air).

Climate Control System

Refer to Navigation for picture of climate controlsystem integrated with the navigation system.

Climate Control

Defroster button: Turns the defroster on(indicator lit) and off to clear the windshield of fogor frost.

Tip: If there is frost on the windows, selectRecirculation mode. If the windows are fogged,select Fresh Air mode.Rear window defogger button: Turns thedefogger on (indicator lit) and off to clear the rearwindow of fog or frost.

Tip: The top part of the rear window is the radioantenna; it may take longer for that part to clear.AUTO button: Turns on the automatic climatecontrol system, which regulates the interiortemperature, mode controls, and fan speed.“AUTO” is not displayed when the system is insemiautomatic mode. If you press the modeand/or fan control buttons while in AUTO mode,the system is changed to semiautomatic mode.The system no longer controls the mode controlsand fan speed.

On models with navigation – In auto mode, thesystem regulates each temperature based oninformation from a sunlight sensor and thenavigation global positioning system (GPS). If oneside of the vehicle is getting direct sunlight, thesystem will adjust that side to a lower temperature.

Tip: When you set the temperature to its lowerlimit (LO) or its upper limit (HI), the system runs atfull cooling or heating capacity. It does not regulatethe interior temperature or fan speed.Dual Mode Temperature Controls (if equipped)DUAL button: Allows for independent driver’s andpassenger’s side temperature control. Whenselected, the indicator in the button is lit. Pressagain to return temperature control to the driverside control. The indicator will turn off.

Note: When defroster mode is selected, dualmode function is cancelled.OFF button: Completely turns off the climatecontrol system.

AM/FM/XM buttons:Selects AM, FM1, FM2, XM1, or XM2 (if equipped).

Preset buttons:Selects the desired station stored in a band (AM/FM1/FM2/XM1/XM2). To store a station, press and hold thedesired preset button until you hear a beep, thenrelease.

SKIP buttons/bar:Seeks upward (>>) or downward (<<) to find the nextstation with a strong signal.

A.SEL button/bar:Turns on AUTO SELECT – this scans the AM and FMbands and stores the strongest stations in the presetbuttons of each band.

Tip: You will not lose your selected presets. They willcome back when you turn off AUTO SELECT.CD (CD/AUX) button:Selects the CD changer.

SOUND AdjustmentSound level adjustment is accessed by pressingthe SOUND button. On EX and EX-L models, theselector knob (non-navigation models) can beused. For these models, do this:

1.Press and release the MENU button.

2.Turn the selector knob to move to any of these settings: BASS TREBLE FADER BALANCE SUBW (EX-

L only) SVC CLOCK ADJUST (on 6-CD system, this is

accessed by the MENU button).

3.Press the selector knob to choose the desired setting.

4.Turn the selector knob to adjust the setting up or down.

5.Press MENU to return to the original display.

Using the Remote Audio ControlsVOL buttons: Adjusts thevolume.

MODE button: Changesthe system to the nextmode: AM/FM1/FM2/CD/XM1/XM2.

CH buttons

Radio: • Press and release to change to the next or

previous preset station.

• Press and hold until you hear a beep. The next station (+ or -) is selected.

CD: Skips to the beginning of the next track orthe start of the current track.

Most audio system functions can be controlled bystandard controls. You can access some audioand navigation functions by using the selectorknob/interface dial on the audio system. PressENTER to select an item.

Auxiliary Input JackThe auxiliary input jack is located inside thecenter console compartment. It will acceptauxiliary input from standard audio accessories(3.5mm stereo mini-plug). To use, connect acompatible audio unit to the jack. To use aconnected compatible accessory unit, press theAUX or CD/AUX button.

Radio Data System (RDS)When an RDS radio station is selected, the stationfrequency and name are displayed. Otherwise, onlythe frequency is displayed.

Program Service (PS) Name Display: Whenselected, the name of the selected RDS station isdisplayed. To turn ON or OFF, press and releasethe TITLE button. “PS ON” or “PS OFF” appears inthe display.

When either FM band is selected, RDS programcategory can be selected, using either side (= or >)of the CATEGORY (models with XM)/ FOLDER(models without XM) bar to display and select anRDS group. See the owner’s manual for theprincipal RDS categories.

RDS Search: Press and release either side of the

SKIP bar to search up and down for the next RDSstation in your selected category with a strongsignal. If ALL is selected, all RDS stations will besearched.

RDS SCAN: Press and release the SCAN button tosample all available RDS stations in your selectedRDS category. If ALL is selected, all available RDSstations will be scanned. Press the button againwhen a desired station is reached.

Note: RDS Search and SCAN features functionwith the PS name display on or off.

Disc Player ControlsNote:• Control operations for all trim levels are

described. Check your vehicle for the types ofcontrols used.

• Files in MP3/WMA mode are the equivalent oftracks in CD mode.

LOAD button: Loads a CD in the selected or nextavailable slot.

Eject button: Ejects the disc currently selected.

SKIP bar: Press and release <<I to skip forward to thenext track, or I;; to skip backward to the beginning ofthe current track. Press and hold either side to moverapidly within a track.

FOLDER bar (non-XM)/CATEGORY bar (XMequipped) (MP3, WMA Mode): Press (=) to skip to thebeginning of the next folder, or (>) to skip to thebeginning of the previous folder.

Press the MENU button to select the following items:

DISC REPEAT**: Turn the selector knob to PLAYMODE, and press ENTER. Select REPEAT DISC tocontinuously replay the current disc.

REPEAT** (Track or File): Turn the selector knob toPLAY MODE, and press ENTER. Select REPEAT ONETRK to continuously replay a track (files in WMA or MP3mode).

FOLDER REPEAT** (MP3, WMA Mode): Turn theselector knob to PLAY MODE, and press ENTER.Select REPEAT ONE FLD to replay in order all files in aselected folder, in recorded order.

RANDOM** (within a disc): Turn the selector knob toPLAY MODE, and press ENTER. Select RANDOM INDISC to play all the tracks on a disc in random order.

Playing DiscsTo load a single CD in the player:Press the LOAD button, then insert the CD halfwayinto the CD slot. The drive pulls it in the rest of theway. It takes a few seconds for the CD to load.

To remove a CD:1. Press the Eject button.

2. Remove the CD as it comes out.

To load multiple CDs in the 6-CD changer:1. Press and hold LOAD button until the system

beeps.

2. When “LOAD” is displayed, insert a CD into CDslot.

2. Remove the CDs as they come out.

Tip: If you eject the disc, but do not remove it, thesystem automatically reloads it after 10 seconds.

To use this feature, you need a Bluetooth-compatible cell phone with the hands-free profile. Tip: The maximum range between your phone andthe vehicle is 30 feet.

HFL TALK button: Activates HFL(audio system mutes). Press andrelease the button, wait for a beep,then give a voice command in aclear, natural speaking voice(without pause). If a voicecommand is not given within 3seconds, the system times out (twobeeps).

HFL BACK button: Use to end acall, to go back to the previouscommand, or to cancel anoperation.

HFL DisplayWhen operating HFL, the following appears inthe main and center displays.

Using Voice Control• If HFL does not recognize a command, its

response is “Pardon, please repeat.”• To hear a list of available options at any time, say

“HandsFree help.”• Many commands can be spoken together. For

example, you can say “Dial 123-456-7891.”• To skip a voice prompt, press the HFL TALK

button while HFL is speaking. HFL is then readyfor your next command.

• To end a command sequence, press and hold theHFL BACK button, or press the HFL TALK buttonand say “Cancel.” The next time you press theHFL TALK button, HFL begins from the mainmenu.

• Make sure that the airflow from the A/C ventsdoes not interfere with the system microphone inthe ceiling console.

• Close the windows/moonroof.• If the microphone picks up other voices or if you

don’t speak clearly, the system may notunderstand your command.

Making a CallYou can make calls using a phone number, a namestored in your HFL phone book, or redialing the lastnumber called. You can talk up to 30 minutes afterremoving the key from the ignition switch.Remember to press the HFL TALK button prior toeach command.

Note: HFL cannot dial a name stored in your phone.You say: “Call/Dial”HFL responds: “What name or number would youlike to call/dial?”

Import Phone book Feature(With Navigation)The cellular phone book option allows you tostore up to 1,000 names and 10,000 phonenumbers in the HFL phone book from yourcellular phone book. Using the Phone BookThe HFL phone book can store up to 50 names andnumbers. These can be any type of numbers. Forexample, a phone number can be stored and usedfor dialing, or an account number can be stored andused during a call with an automated system.

Tip: HFL allows you to send numbers or namesduring a call; this is useful when you call a menu-driven phone system. Using the Voice Control System

The voice control system allows for convenient, hands-freeoperation of navigation and selected audio and climate controlsystem functions. For a complete list of voice commands, seethe navigation system manual or press the INFO button, thenselect VOICE COMMAND HELP.

TALK/BACK ButtonsEnsure that you are using the NAVITALK/BACK buttons for navigationcommands, and not the HFL buttonslocated in front of them.

• NAVI TALK button: Activates the voicecontrol system (audio system mutes).Push and release on the button, then wait for a beep. Give a voice

command in a clear, natural speaking voice (without pause)within 3 seconds. Otherwise, the system will prompt you torepeat your command.Tip: A multiple beep indicates that a function is unavailableor is already set. For example, if fan speed is set to three,and you say “Fan speed three,” you will hear “beep-beep-beep.”

• NAVI BACK button: When viewing a menu screen, returnsthe display to the previous screen. It is enabled fornavigation commands only, but can cancel an audio orclimate command up to one second after the commandconfirmation.

General Voice Control GuidelinesThe voice control microphone is located in the ceilingconsole. To properly control the system:

• If the system cannot recognize your commandbecause of background noise, speak louder.

• Voice commands from the front passenger are notaccepted by the system.

Optimizing Voice ControlTo optimize voice recognition and hear the voicefeedback:• Avoid running the fan at maximum speeds.• Adjust the vents so they don’t blow directly at the

microphone in the ceiling.• Minimize the amount of wind noise from open

windows or the sunroof.

Voice Control Assistance• To hear the valid voice commands for any screen,

simply say “Help.”• To repeat the instructions for how to use any

screen, say “Repeat voice.”• While learning the commands, ensure that the navi

volume and “Voice feedback” settings are set toON. The feedback provides confirmation of yourcommand and provides the best way to say thecommand.
