THE MIRROR OF DCI
Material Management includes planning, organizing, leading and controlling activities in the organization to accomplish the desired goal –DCI to become a Global player in the Dredging services. Materials constitute one of the important factors of Dredging process. Materials is normally in the form of Spares, Stores and Fuel &Lubes consumed in the process of dredgingprocess. Inventory termed in DCI as stock of Fuels, Spares and Stores that are contributing to the production by the Dredgers. Materials Management is the movement of materials / Spares from Procurement to consumption onboard, particularly the spare parts for replacements in the Dredge equipment systems as per the Planned Maintenance System (PMS) that deals with supply chain and quality control of such parts.
Materials Dept strives to ensure that the material cost of Spare parts of the total product cost be the least. Cost incurred on fuels, Lub Oils, Spare parts and Stores on board Dredgers being a major component of the overall expenditure.
The Spare parts and Stores constitutes to 3% to 4 % of total expenditure and Fuel & L.O constitutes 37% of total expenditure of Dredging production. The recent year steep cost escalation of Fuels specially HFLSHSD has relatively increased in the percentage of Fuel of total expenditure of dredging.DuringDrydocking of Dredgers, many critical Spare parts are consumed for improving the efficiency of Dredge equipment systems for better production by the DCI Dredgers.

THE MIRROR OF DCI
Kochi , formerly known in English as Cochin is a major port city on the Malabar Coast of India bordering the Laccadive Sea, which is a part of the Arabian Sea. It is part of the district of Ernakulam in the state of Kerala and is often referred to as Ernakulam. Kochi is the most densely populated city in Kerala. Called the "Queen of the Arabian Sea", Kochi was an important spice trading centre on the west coast of India from the 14th century onward, and maintained a trade network with Arab merchants
Kochi is known as the financial, commercial and industrial capital of Kerala. The city is home to the Southern Naval Command of the Indian Navy and is the state headquarters of the Indian Coast Guard with an attached air squadron. Commercial maritime facilities of the city include the Port of Kochi, an International Container Transhipment Terminal (ICTT) the Cochin Shipyard, offshore SPM of the BPCL Kochi Refinery and the Kochi Marina.
Kochi is located on the southwest coast of India at 9°58′N 76°13′E, with a corporation limit area of 94.88 km2 (36.63 sq mi). The city straddles the backwaters, encompassing the northern end of a peninsula, several islands and a portion of the mainland. To the west lies the Laccadive Sea, and to the east is the urbanised region in the rest of the mainland area. Much of Kochi lies at sea level, with a coastline of 48 km.
Dredging at Cochin Port Trust:
Cochin Port is one of the major ports between the Arabian Sea and the Indian Ocean, situated in the state of Kerala in India. It is also one of the largest ports in the country and is governed by the Cochin Port Trust. Cochin Port is one of the 12 Major Ports in India. It is an all weather port located in the State of Kerala on the west coast of India (9o 58’ N, 76o 16’ E) within the Cochin lagoon, which has natural protection from the sea by the headlands of Fort Cochin and Vypeen. The entrance to the Port is through the sea outlet between the peninsular headland of Vypeen and Fort Cochin, popularly known as the ‘Cochin Gut’. LNG Basin is situated at the northern side of the outer channel near the Cochin Gut. Kochi ranks among India's major seaports, partly due to being one of the safest harbours in the Indian Ocean.
It also operates passenger ships to Colombo and Lakshadweep. Boat services are operated by Kerala Shipping and Inland Navigation Corporation, the State Water Transport Department and private firms from various boat jetties in the city. The junkar ferry for the transhipment of vehicles and passengers between the islands is operated between Ernakulum and Vypin, and between Vypin and Fort Kochi. However, with the construction of the Goshree bridges (which links Kochi's islands), ferry transport has become less essential. The main boat jetties are Ernakulam Main Boat Jetty near Park Avenue, High Court Jetty in Banerjee Road, Embarkation Jetty in Willingdon Island and Fort Kochi Jetty.

THE MIRROR OF DCI
Hans India, a leading business newspaper has interviewed Prof Dr. G.Y.V Victor, MD& CEO on future goals of DCI and how DCIL will be ready to meet goals of Maritime Vision-2030.
In an exclusive interview to Hans India Prof Dr G.Y.Victor said that the company has a bright future ahead by becoming self-reliant to meet the goals of Maritime Vision 2030. He stated that DCIL is slowly bouncing back to normal operations after cascading effect of pandemic coupled with imposition of lockdown although the ports being essential services are fully operational with certain limitations. The Pandemic has an impact on the service sector including the dredging industry due to disrupted running and planned repair, prolonged dry dock repairs, transfer of crew to the dredgers from their home towns affecting the efficiency.
He has further informed that Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways accorded approval for building a Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger of 12,000 m3 capacity by Cochin Shipyard Limited. This will be the first time that DCI shall be building TSHD in an Indian Shipyard. Otherwise, all these specialized dredgers were built by IHC in the Netherlands. On the question whether after major ports picked up a majority stake in DCIL, the brand value of DCI has gone up and has this resulted in obtaining fresh work order, Prof Dr. G.Y.V Victor said it was a strategic plan of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and waterways to transfer government owned shares to major ports under its administration, so that DCIL shall function under the administration of the ministry and cater to the requirements of all the major ports. He further added that few ports have nominated the dredging projects to DCIL to save money on other projects that were awarded through a tender process. On another important question on venturing into overseas dredging market, Prof Dr G.Y.V Victor replied that DCIL is willing to enter into MOU with our foreign partners to secure wok overseas. We shall be expanding to our neighbouring countries to commence our works.
Lastly on very important question of DCI plans to offer consultancy to other firms in reclamation of land, ProfDr.G.Y.VVictor stated that they have specialized in all spheres of marine dredging works as contractors and as project management consultants. He emphasised on the fact that DCIL is transforming from contractor to the status of preferred contractor by our clients. DCIL has earned its name as a reliable contractor to complete the works to the satisfaction of the clients. DCIL has plans to expand to neighbouring countries as both a dredging contractor and an EPC contractor. He informed that t DCIL is in discussion with reputed overseas dredging and civil contractors to form a consortium for bidding for projects. , DCI ,
