3 His InspirationThe Day the Earth Stood Still by Bernard Hermann(click link above)

Danny recalls the experience that instilled in him the love of music, and especially cinematic music, was when he heard the musical arrangement for The Day the Earth Stood Still by Bernard Hermann. (Empires Soundtracks Celebration) 4MYSTIC KNIGHTS OF THE OINGO BOINGO(1972-1979)Groups

In the early 1970s Danny and his brother, Richard, started a band called Mystic Knights of the Oingo-Boingo. This group began in Paris. As with many new groups, this one was re-named many times and the group finally settled on the name Oingo Boingo. The group was originally formed when Richard Elfman needed some music for the movie he was directing, The Forbidden Zone. This was Dannys first attempt at writing a film score.

OINGO-BOINGO(1979-1995)Oingo Boingo is the band that helped bring Danny Elfman into the spotlight. While The Forbidden Zone was still in production, Oingo Boingo began performing in small clubs in the Los Angeles area and began to gain a local fan base. They became popular and were a hit band from 1979 until their final farewell performance in 1995. Dannys experience overseas with various theater companies and also with his experience of writing for his brothers movie, Oingo Boingo had an edge over most of the other bands in L.A. that were trying to make it. During Oingo Boingos popularity, there were many times that their albums were slow to be released as Danny was busy writing songs for various movies.61985 The Transition to FilmDannys first big hit movie score

In 1985, Danny wrote his first score for a hit movie soundtrack. It was for Pee-Wees Big Adventure which was directed by his friend Tim Burton. Although this was his first song written specifically for the intention of being used in a film, some of his songs from Oingo Boingo had been used in other films before this. 7Loud Music = Hearing Loss = The End to Dannys Concert PerformancesOingo Boingos Final Concert PerformanceOctober 31,1995 at The Universal Amphitheatre

Despite his recent statement that he is suffering from slight hearing loss/damage, Danny Elfman continues to work and create amazing musical compositions. He has made the decision to never again perform on stage because of his hearing problems. The loud music would most likely speed up his hearing deterioration and although performing is exciting, its not worth it to Danny if it could potentially prevent him from ever writing music again. 82013He Continues to Compose Film Scores The latest films for which he composed the film score that have been released this year to date are:Epic ANDOz The Great and PowerfulSongs by Danny Elfman are not always accepted by the classical music community. His music has a unique edge and darkness that many find to be undeserving of accolades. In spite of this he continues to write musical scores for many popular movies. His latest two films in which he wrote the film score for are: The animated Twentieth Century Fox movie Epic, and Disneys movie Oz The Great and Powerful. Both movies were released in 2013.

HISTORY1989 Batman moviesongUp The Cathedral

This song reached to #30 on the billboard charts.Up the Cathedral (5:06) This piece was written by Danny Elfman in 1989 for the movie Batman. It is an original motion picture score. As inspiration for writing the score for this movie, Elfman was given the 1986 comic books The Dark Knight Returns. Accomplishing this huge task of writing the score for such a big movie made Elfman slightly nervous and so he enlisted the help of his former band-mate from Oingo Boingo, lead guitarist, Steve Bartek as well as his friend Shirley Walker. Danny Elfman also composed this musical score by combining some pieces written for the movie by Prince and Michael Jackson. On the music charts this score at its highest point reached number 30. In July 2010 La-La Land Records released this song on an album of the complete score by Danny Elfman from the movie Batman.112010 Alice In Wonderland moviesongAlices Theme

This particular piece inspired other songs to be written by other artists.Alices Theme (5:07)This song is from the movie Alice in Wonderland directed by Tim Burton. It appears as the first track on the movie album which was released in March 2010 by Walt Disney Records. It is unclear as to the inspiration for this piece, but it inspired many other recordings such as:The lead single, "Alice" by Avril Lavigne, premiered on January 27, 2010 on Ryan Seacrest's radio program. Other singles include "Follow Me Down" by 3OH!3 and "Tea Party" by Kerli. (Alice in WonderlandWikipedia)

121997 Men In Black moviesongM.I.B. Main ThemeIt is possible that Elfman composed as well as performed this piece.

M.I.B. Main Theme (2:58)This composition was written by Danny Elfman as the main theme song for the 1997 movie Men in Black. This song was released by Columbia Records on The Album in July 1997 as well as on the score album in December 1997. There is some evidence that this song was not only written by Elfman but that he also performed it for the movie as well.
