CENTENNIAL CHROMAGRAPH - with Variable ProjectsAIA Minnesota Honor Award, 2013
The Centennial Chromagraph consists of 100 robotically routed plywood ribs, joined together with 8,080 colorful #2 pencils. It is a life-size representation of the history of the School of Architecture. The project is an exercise in data spatialization: using computational design tools to generate formal and spatial constructions with large quantities of data—in this case, information collected over the 100-year history of the UMN School of Architecture.
Software: Rhino, Grasshopper, Excel, RhinoCAM, Illustrator
RIPARIAN WETLAND CENTER - GDII StudioDesign Democracy Award, 2013
The Riparian Wetland Center embodies the transformation of the Mississippi River Bank from an industrial brownfield into a reclaimed natural system. Where metal scrap yeards once stood, the Riparian Wetland Center invites the community in with an expressive perforated aluminum skin. The program consists of research labs, indoor and outdoor exhibits, classrooms, and a 350 seat auditorium.
