But the Braves ran into ACC and national power Georgia Tech to open the season and took a 69-6 whipping. After a win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff, South Carolina State (1-1, 0-0 MEAC) then moved into the top BCSP spot last week. But the Bulldogs ran into budding FCS power Coastal Carolina and absorbed a 41-14 beating Saturday. And after posting wins over Alabama State (24-14) and Jackson State (35-25), young but undefeated Tennessee State (2-0, 0-0 OVC) becomes the third team in the young season to ascend to No. 1 in the BCSP Top Ten. Rod Reed's Blue Tigers take the spot just in time to take on OVC favorite and FCS na- tionally-ranked Jacksonville State Saturday (1 p.m.). All the Gamecocks (1-1, 0-0 OVC) did Saturday was take FBS No. 6 and SEC power Auburn to overtime before falling 27-20. JSU was the first FCS team to take an FBS team to overtime. I. Frederick announced last week during a press conference at Campus Hall South that former HBO executive Kery D. Davis has been appointed the school's new director of the De- partment of Intercollegiate Athletics "After an extensive national search, Kery emerged as the ideal candidate to spearhead the future of Howard's Division I athletics program," Frederick said. Davis joins Howard from HBO Sports where he is credited with negotiating lucrative multi-year agreements for HBO with major league sports as well as an impressive ros- ter of professional athletes. LINCoLN RB STePHeN SCoTT - Scott has averaged 230.5 rushing yards over the first two games, both wins for Lincoln. Scott ran 31 times for 179 yards and three TDs in the season opening win over Cheyney. He had a whop-ping 50 carries for 282 yards and two TDs this week vs. N. C. Wesleyan. Scott, a 5-8, 205-pound junior, is averaging 5.7 yards per carry and 40.5 carries per game headed into this week’s home date with Alderson-Broaddus. Scott is currently second in NCAA Div. II rushing yards per game. - BoWIe STaTe QB MaTTHeW GoGGINS - Goggins has back-to-back 300-yard passing games as the Bull-dogs have opened with two wins. He completed 23 of 42 passes for 313 yards and three TDs in the season-opening win over Merrimack. He hooked up on 19 of 33 passes for 352 yards and four TDs (64, 61, 20, 28) this week in a win over Brevard. Goggins is currently 12th in NCAA Div.
