In this picture book there are 20 colorful photos of spring time in the Dandenong Ranges (Victoria, Australia). Just outside Melbourne, the Dandenong Ranges are higher and cooler than the city and provide an environment where commercial horticulture and landscaped gardens thrive. In spring time there are many festivals which feature the floral aspect of the region. One of the main attractions is the Tulip Festival with its distinctive Dutch flavour and there are also several magnificent gardens which come into bloom at the same time. The famous Puffing Billy steam train is another icon which takes tourists through beautiful fern and gumtree country. Photos depicted: Tulip Festival and its sign, Dutch pancakes (poffertjes), clogs, TV filming, tulips, windmill, Dutch costume, daffodils, rows of tulips growing, gates to one of the gardens, Puffing Billy steam train, seat and lamp post amongst the blooms, rhododenron, magnolia, tree ferns, forest and lake. The first sequence is for looking and enjoying. The second sequence is for looking and learning. This time the photos have a word (or words) on them and can be used like flash cards. Children will enjoy not only looking at the beautiful colored photos but the large text of the word(s) on the photos makes it very easy for learning new words.
