What is DM?

Dance Marathon is a celebration of life that includes an eight hour event. It is not a dance-a-thon. You do not dance for eight hours straight, although it is a party, so there will be some dancing. Smaller events through-out the year lead up to the main event. Students stay on their feet the entire time throughout the “marathon.”

Above all, Dance Marathon is a fund rais-er for Children’s Miracle Network. The mon-ey raised at Wartburg will go to The Univer-sity of Iowa Children’s Hospital.

What is CMN? Children’s Miracle Network’s mission is to generate funds and awareness programs in partnership with and for the benefit of member hospitals/foundations and the children they are privileged to serve.

Children’s Miracle Network is a non-profit organization that raises money to help sick and injured children in local communities. They cur-rently serve more than 170 children’s hospitals. The program funds medical care, research and education. Each year CMN helps 17 million children. To date, CMN has raised over 3.4 bil-lion dollars.

The Main Event All Dancers that have raised the required amount of money are invited to participate in “The Event.” All the families sponsored by Dance Marathon participate in the event. Mo-rale Captains are around to keep up the energy At the top of each our, participants do the “Morale Dance” to get everyone energized, stretching, and feeling great.

How to Raise MoneyThere are many ways you can raise money for Dance Marathon. Once you have registered, you will be put on an email list that will invite and inform you of different fundraising op-portunities with other dancers. These options include – bake sale, working concessions at athletic events, Cans for a Cause, and a change drive.

Individually, you can ask family, friends, teach-ers, and roommates for monetary donations. Once you have registered online, you can invite those you know to your personal profile online and they can donate electronically into your ac-count.

Registration Fee

The registration fee for Dance Marathon is $10. You may be asking “Why do I need to pay $10 AND raise money to participate?” Your $10 registration fee is used only for food and entertainment at the event and your Dance Marathon T-shirt. The money you raise goes directly to the hospital.

Dancer Requirements

Dancers are required to raise $100. The other main requirement is that you remain on your feet for the entire eight hours. There is also no caffeine involved during Dance Mar-athon. Last year, there were plenty of other ac-tivities provided to keep people moving if they needed a break from the dancing. There was four square, board games, a giant twist-er mat, and Best Buy provided some video games to play. There’s a lot of entertainment to go around, and it may be difficult to fit it all in to eight hours.
