Background
Daniel Denton was an employee of South Redford School District from Spring, 1999 until his death in Fall, 2008 from heart disarrhythmia.
As the Network Administrator and Technical support he was able to work with many people in SRSD and as a result touched many lives.
Inspiration
Dr. Beverly Bancroft, former Curriculum Director of SRSD was moved by Dan’s passing,
“Shortly after Dan Denton’s passing I am certain each of you experienced an overwhelming grief-tinged sense of surprise and disbelief. Immediately we responded in our own ways…I decided to do something direct and ongoing to encourage and help young people in our SRSD midst who will benefit from encouragement in exploring and learning through the themes reflected in Dan’s life, gifts, and shared talents.”
Purpose
• To discover, recognize, and encourage young people in SRSD from grades 8 through 12 in whom, we observe a developing talent, interest, or innate curiosity. To nurture young people who may not recognize their potential in these areas; who may not receive satisfaction or positive recognition from their classroom, athletic, or other more tradition school paths to “success” or self-development.
