ADVICE(from George Lois)
George LoisAdvertising Master
George Lois is one of our heroes and here is our favorite advice from the Damn Good Advice book.
We believe George’s advice is not only relevant for the advertising industry but for people who generally want to change the world!
OUR 10 FAVORITESDAMN GOOD ADVICE
Creativity can solve almost any problem - the creative act, the defeat of habit by originality, overcomes everything.
ALWAYS GO FOR THE
BIG IDEA!
Getting a Big Idea is not an act of inspiration, but rather one of discovery.
Any great creative idea should stun momentarily - it should seem to be outrageous.
Teamwork might work in creating an Amish barn, but it can’t create a Big Idea.
A truly great ad campaign is driven by a Big Idea that contains:1. A memorable slogan!2. A memorable visual!
If it takes more than three sentences to explain your entrepreneurial idea to the money guys, it’s not a Big Idea!
Always do three things when you present a Big Idea:1. Tell what they are going to see.2. Show it to them.3. Tell them, dramatically, what they just saw.
Advertising is like poison gas. It should bring tears to your eyes, unhinge your
nervous system, and knock you out.
Your portfolio should
IGNITE, PROVOKE, SHOCK, KICK ASS.

ONE MORE THING
If you’re reading this and you’re approaching 50 years of age, remember that oak trees do not produce acorns until they are 50 years old.
PHOTO CREDITSIn this presentation we have used a
number of GEORGE LOIS photos where we have not been able to determine the
actual owner.
We honor and respect these unknown photographers for their awesome work.
By using these images, we might very well have f*cked up and broken a few
copyright laws. We do not want the FBI or Hells Angels to show up at our house. if we have messed up your life by using
your photo, let us know. RESPECT.
