OUR HISTORY

Damazo grain millers was established in 2019 with the

aim of promoting trade and investment for both local

and international markets and to serve Uganda’s

growing communities with food supplies and more so,

to offer job opportunities to the youth that had lost their

jobs due to the outbreak of Covid19 pandemic that left

most businesses financially fragile. Drake Balikowa

Magara, who is the director and founder of Damazo

grain millers had a dream to open a grain milling

company when he visited China. Before the country’s

lockdown, he had already ordered for the milling

machine following a successful feasibility study

regarding the business.

Damazo grain millers has grown to become a valuable

source of business venture which is trusted especially

by the private sector. Our sales have been steadily

growing in local markets and we hope to extend to the

international markets by 2023. We are soon to expand,

build partnership and develop competition within the

global market.

Using a networking approach for promotion of trade

and investments, our staff become part of an actively

engaged business community that generates productive

ideas, activities, and alliances for business successes.

To ensure continuity and confirm success, Damazo

grain millers Secretariat maintains a database for client

maintenance and record purposes.

Uganda is endowed with vast varieties of resources

ranging from minerals, forest resources, uncultivated

rich land and investing in Uganda is not only rewarding

but highly profitable. Damazo grain millers therefore

provides an excellent Centre for Business growth and

prosperity and can be viewed as the next hub for world

business growth. Damazo grain millers therefore taps

these business opportunities in both local and

international firms to maximize, establish and widening

its base in the global market.

DIRECTORS MESSAGE

“Success is not a key to

happiness. But happiness is

a key to success. If you love

what you are doing, you

will be successful”.

In the current process of widespread globalization,

we in Damazo Grain Millers understand that meeting

our customer's requirement is essential to the success

of our business. We can say that the years we

experienced in the past are significant years and it is

clearly seen that we have intensively delivered our

best performance to focus on customer satisfaction.

We saw the need to open up the grain milling

company at that time when most of the businesses

were shuttered and leaving most of the youth

unemployed. The food production was not so much

affected giving us opportunity to successfully

accelerate in the business and more so, providing job

opportunities to those that had lost their jobs. These

were able to cater for their family needs and I’m glad

the company restored their lost hope to working

again. We are still young in business but we have

succeedigly done well to our expectation.

Just like any other person out there, opening up a

business is one of the most challenging idea one can

embark on, it involves a lot of dedication, passion and

hard work. Besides our hard work, we were

privileged to have a god father, Mr. Godfrey Were in

the same business who walked us through till when

JULY 2021

we were able to move on our own, we owe our

gratitude and success to him.

We are soon expanding our business to the rest of the

cities in Uganda due to the over whelming demands

from our clients. This will not only be advantageous

to our clients but also gives us the opportunity to be

closer to our farmers thus reducing on their

transportation costs.

We are now in an ever-changing market environment.

In such situation, we firmly believe that “trust” is the

key element in persuading customers to choose our

quality product. We totally accept that “trust” can

create a “Win-Win Situation” for a long deeper

relationship.

And we trust and believe that by 2023, we will be

able to cover all our sited cities.

Yours’ sincerely

Drake Balikowa Magara

FARMING AS A BUSINESS TRANSFORMED MY

LIFE.

Wilson a beneficially from Damazo

grain miller loan standing in front of

his newly constructed house, a

cutesy of Damazo grain miller funds.

Syanga Wilson, 53, and a father of 5 lives in Jami parish in

Budaka district. He just cannot hold his happiness when

we visited to see how his farming business is doing.

“Damazo grain millers are my life savers”, he said with a

big smile while showing us his green flourishing garden.

Jami village is surrounded by rich lands that favor

agriculture. The area harbors above 1000 farmers and most

of them are indigenous people. Wilson has been in rice

farming throughout his life. “This is what everybody does

right from our great grandfathers”. He said.

Most of the farmers in Jami village cultivate rice as a

subsistence crop. They only cultivate what they are able to

survive on. Besides their hard work, the families continued

to struggle in terms of their children’s education and

wellbeing.

Wilson is a long way from his situation nearly three

decades ago, when his children dropped out of school and

him not being able to pay their school fees. Today, his first

born is a registered nurse and his second born is a soldier.

His other children are still in school and doing well in

class.

When Damazo grain millers agricultural loan was

introduced to the community, beneficiary groups were

formed and sensitised on how to use the funds. Wilson

belonging in one out of 60 groups formed, applied for a

group loan which was divided amongst the members. And

in 2020, 60 million shillings was issued by Damazo to

finance farmer groups

Mr. Drake Balikowa Magara, director and founder of

Damazo grain millers said that they have continued to

boost their farmers’ capital through Damazo agricultural

loan scheme for 3 years now. “Our farmers are able to

produce rice in bulk and in return sell it to us”, this has in

return boosted our rice milling company and we are able to

retain our farmers amidst competitions from other

companies in the same business”. He added.

“follow up is one of the major issue

we take at heart to ensure our

clients deliver quality produce. This

has helped Damazo ensure quality

products to the final consumers”.

Wilson cannot praise the efforts of Damazo grain millers

enough. “Damazo grain millers has done a lot in changing

our lives in the village, It’s helped us trade in farming as a

business, I have built a house and taken my children to

desirable schools”, says Wilson.
