    Dear Sponsorship Partner,

I am very pleased to write this letter of introduction for the

Dalhousie Formula SAE Team. As someone who has spentmy career in Engineering Education I know that the best way

for students to learn Engineering is through doing. Dalhousie

Formula SAE provides an outstanding opportunity for

students to apply their book-learning in a real world setting.

Over the coming year, the team will design a small race car from scratch and then

have the opportunity to race it at several races in North America and Europe. Through

this exercise they learn teamwork, design, project management, and some technical

    skills.

The team of between 30 and 50 students relies heavily on outside sponsorship to

build and race their cars. I hope that you will see the tremendous value in supporting

our students. Besides providing a great learning opportunity for students, it will allow

you to join in the fun in following some of the keenest racers anywhere campaign a

state of the art race car.

    Sincerely yours,

    L. Joshua Leon, Ph.D., P.Eng.

THE TEAMDalhousie Formula SAE is a team of undergraduate and graduate students

attending Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. This Unique group of

students dedicate themselves to pursuing one goal: Design, construct, andpromote, a Formula style race car to compete in annual Formula SAE

    competitions around the world.

The 2013-2014 Dalhousie team is currently engaged in the design and

development of the 2014 competition vehicle. With the design and build of a

new car every year, the Dalhousie team strives to improve on lessons learned.

Utilizing this drive to improve in every aspect of the team, the Dalhousie team

is responsible for not only the design, construction, and testing of the

competition vehicle, but also for the financing, marketing, logistics, and

    recruitment.

The newly reorganized, direct-responsibility project based environment

currently in development; coupled with the competitive team environment

offered by Formula SAE, is invaluable to the development of leadership,

teamwork, project management, and problem solving skills. The

development of these skills benefits team members in their academic and

    future careers. 2012 Team Photo

THE COMPETITIONDalhousie Formula SAE attends the University of

Toronto Shootout each Fall, the Formula SAEMichigan USA Competition each May, and more

recently the Northampton, England Formula SAE

    Competition each June.

Michigan is the largest Formula SAE series, with

120 teams competing to have the best designed

and constructed small Formula-style racecar. The

prototype evaluation is based on a combination

of design, manufacturing, and marketing for its

potential as a production recreational vehicle.

This was the very first car Dalhousie sent to a

competition. The team competed at FSAE West in

California, placing 53rd out of 80 teams and winning

    team of the year.

After a two year hiatus, the team was restarted. Though

little information remained from the 2007 team, the new

team built a car and competed in Michigan, placing 93rd

    out of 120 teams.

The team conceived, designed, and built animpressive car, which competed in Michigan. Though

the car was well received by design judges placing

37thin the design category, a lack of testing resulted in

    the team placing 77thoverall.

The team improved upon many facets of the 2011 car,

and created a car that was lighter and more powerful. In

Michigan, the teams technical drawings ranked 6th

place, and the team ranked 58thoverall, a top half finish

    and the best result yet.

The 2013 exceeded expectations finishing 40th overall

at Michigan while qualifying and competing for the first

time at the prestigious Silverstone track in Northampton,

    England.
