Each student chooses from a leveled e-‐library of 200 high-‐interest trade books and reads independently. The teacher conferences with individual students on a weekly basis.
The teacher uses contextual sentences, media, and interac;ve surveys to instruct students on 1-‐3 vocabulary words.
The teacher models and guides the student readers through the strategies and skills of effec;ve reading comprehension.
The teacher launches whole group, small group, or partnered conversa;on surrounding the Read Aloud Think Aloud text in order to make connec;ons between the text, the strategies, and the students’ worlds.
The teacher provides modeling and direct instruc;on on reading skills, vocabulary terms, and elements of wri;ng. Students complete guided prac;ce ac;vi;es.
Students work individually to apply the strategies on an Interac;ve Reader, complete personalized skills prac;ce, and write and revise coached wri;ng assignments. The teacher provides intensive small-‐group instruc;on to select students.
The class regroups to discuss what they have learned that day. The teacher previews the next day’s lesson.
