PE Partner Red Light Green Light Children line up on one side or the room and an adult on the other. Adult will say “GREEN LIGHT” and children will start walking toward adult. When adult says “RED LIGHT” children must stop. If child does not stop, they must return to the start line. You may repeat this game and have children get across the room another way (i.e. crab walking, hopping, crawling, etc.)

Name the picture then write both uppercase and lowercase Yy or Qq for the beginning sound next to the picture. *Words with y, qu: Many times when we write a “Q” word we write a Qu for the /Qq/ sound. So, when you hear a word that’s a ‘Q’ word it’s spelled with a ‘qu’. Ex: queen, quarter, quilt, quart, quince, quiet, quit *Point and spell the High Frequency words on pages218-219. Worksheet p 261, pencil Subtraction or “take away”. Top half is from 1 to 5, these you should be working on fluency. Doing them quickly. The bottom half is up to 10. You may need counters of some kind like beans to help you solve these.

Daily Math Practice

Paper, pencil Practice counting by 5’s and 10’s to 100. Write your numerals to 20 this is a required standard to do without looking at anything. Recognizing numerals to 20 out of sequence.

Social Studies

Memorial Day is this Monday the 25th of May. Memorial Day is when we honor the men and women who have died while serving in the military. If you know someone in the military or who has served in the military tell them “thank you for their service.” Discuss this.

Ducks on a LakeMath Idea: solving word problems

Tell students that sometimes a good way to solve an addition word problem is to act it out with objects. Then give each child several yellow pom-poms (ducks) and a sheet of blue paper (lake). Recite the rhyme shown, encouraging youngsters to put corresponding sets of ducks on their lakes. Then have students determine the total number of ducks on the lake. Repeat the activity several times, changing the numbers as desired.
