I-Drone: South Asia’s 1st Indian drone to deliver COVID-19 Vaccines

• Union Minister Mansukh Laxmanbhai

Mandaviya, Ministry of Health and Family

Welfare (MoH&FW) launched a delivery

model namely ‘ICMR’s Drone Response and

Outreach in North East (i- Drone)’.

• ICMR tested the vaccine delivery capacity of

drones in collaboration with Indian Institute

of Technology Kanpur on the basis of which

the Ministry of Civil Aviation

• This is for the first time that a ‘Make in India’ drone has been used in South Asia to transport COVID-19

vaccine.

• Indian Army signed a Rs. 100 crore worth contract with the Joint Venture between India’s Alpha Design &

Israel’s Elbit Security Systems, for the procurement of over 100 ‘SkyStrikers’ under its emergency

procurement powers. All the ‘SkyStriker’ known as “Suicide Drones will be manufactured in the Bangalore

manufacturing unit of Alpha Design.

• Telganana partnered with Marut drones under ‘Hara Bhara’ Project

• Telangana became 1st Indian State to launch Beyond Visual Line of Sight drones to send medicines

• The Indian Navy has signed a contract with Bharat Electronics Limited for the manufacture and supply of

India’s 1st indigenously developed Naval Anti Drone System with both ‘hard kill’ and ‘soft kill capabilities.

• Kerala inaugurated the India’s first first-of-its-kind Drone Forensic Lab and Research Centre in

Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala

• The French Armed Forces used ‘HELMA-P (High-energy Laser for Multiple Application – Power)’, a Laser-

Powered Anti-Drone System to destroy a drone during a test of technology conducted near the Atlantic

coast in Southwestern part of France.

India’s first vertical lift railway bridge to be completed by March 2022

• The Ministry of Railways announced that the

construction work of the new 2.05 km Pamban railway

bridge in Mandapam will be completed by March 2022.

The bridge will connect Rameswaram to the mainland in

Tamil Nadu.

• It will be India’s first vertical lift railway bridge

over the sea.

• Railway Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) is developing

the sea bridge with the cost of Rs 250 crore.

Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change released the

‘Guidelines for sustainable Ecotourism in forest and wildlife areas’

• The Union Minister Bhupender Yadav, Ministry of

Environment, Forest and Climate Change released the

‘Guidelines for sustainable Ecotourism in forest and

wildlife areas’ to promote a better understanding of

nature and wildlife conservation

• He released a field guide for monitoring Ganges and

Indus river dolphins, associated aquatic fauna and

habitat.

• This is for the first time that a standardized monitoring protocol has been made for synchronised dolphin

enumeration exercise.

• This exercise will be undertaken in the 8 states of Assam, West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh,

Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Punjab.

• Recently, Bhupender Yadav, Union Minister of Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change

launched “PRANA” – Portal for Regulation of Air-pollution in Non-Attainment Cities a portal to monitor the

implementation of India’s National Clean Air Programme

NITI Aayog releases State Nutritional Profile for 19 States and UTs

• NITI Aayog, in a joint effort with International

Food Policy Research Institute Indian Institute

of Population Sciences, UNICEF and Institute of

Economic Growth launched ‘The State Nutrition

Profile’ for 19 States and Union Territories

• They show the performance of the districts by

analysing the trend in wasting, stunting,

anemia, underweight and overweight and NCDs

(Diabetes and High blood pressure).

India’s 1st Ropeway Public Transport Proposed to be Constructed

in Varanasi

• India’s 1st and world’s 3rd (after Bolivia and Mexico City) ropeway for public transport was proposed to be constructed in the city of Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh to ease the traffic congestion.

• The ropeway service will cover an aerial distance of 5 km from Cantt Railway Station (Varanasi Junction, Uttar Pradesh) to Church Square (Godauliya) in about 15 minutes.

• WAPCOS Limited proposed the cost of the ropeway service at Rs 400 crore.

• The service will commence with 220 cable cars/trolleys and 4 stations including Cantt railway station, Sajan Tiraha, Rathyatra, and Girjaghar (Godowlia) crossings.

• The cars will run at a height of 45 meter and through the ropeway around 8000 people could travel at a time (in two directions).

• Recently, North Eastern Railways has renamed the Manduadih Railway Station in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh as Banaras Railway Station. The approval for the change was given by the Railway Board.

Bhupender Yadav released 1st Quarterly Employment Survey of Labour Bureau

• Union Minister Bhupender Yadav, Ministry of

Labour and Employment released the report of first quarter of Quarterly Employment Survey (QES) part (April to June 2021) of the All-India Quarterly Establishment-based Employment Survey prepared by the Labour Bureau.

• The estimated total employment in the 9 selected sectors from the first round of QES is 3 crores and 8 lakhs approximately as compared to total of 2 crores and 37 lakhs in the 6th Economic Census (2013-14). This represents a growth rate of 29%.

• Of the total employment estimated in the selected nine sectors, Manufacturing accounts for nearly 41% followed by Education with 22%, Health 8%, Trade and IT/BPO by 7% each.

• The maximum growth of 152% was recorded in the IT/BPO sector.

• The over-all participation of female workers stood at 29% against 31% reported during 6th EC.

• Around 18% of the establishments have provision of on-job skill training programmes.

IFSCA set up 10-member expert panel to develop sustainable finance hub

• The International Financial Services Centres Authority set up an expert panel headed by former Environment and Forest Secretary C K Mishra to suggest a framework to develop a world-class sustainable finance hub at IFSC.

• IFSCA has constituted a 10-member Expert Committee to recommend approach towards development of Sustainable Finance Hub.

IFSCA in recent news:

• IFSCA launched the pilot run of ‘International Bullion Exchange’.

• International Financial Services Centres Authority issued a framework for setting up and operating an

‘International Trade Finance Services’ (ITFS) platform to provide trade finance services at International Financial Services Centres (IFSCs).

• IFSCA, in its endeavour to develop a Longevity Finance Hub in GIFT IFSC has constituted an Expert Committee to recommend approach towards development of Longevity Finance Hub and provide road map for the same.

• The expert committee is being co-chaired by Ms. Kaku Nakhate, President and Country Head (India), Bank of America, and Mr. Gopalan Srinivasan, Ex-CMD, New India Assurance Company Limited.

BharatPe acquired Payback India launches PAY Feature on its App

• Payback India, a BharaPe company, has launched the

‘PAY feature’ on its mobile app that provides the integrated facility of QR code based payment and loyalty points in a single app.

• Member of Payback will earn 50 bonus points on the first UPI transaction via Payback Pay and five Payback points thereafter, on every transaction.

• The customers will earn 2X points on transactions done at BharatPe QRs. The points will be credited in the customer’s account on a real-time basis.
