Polembros ships to be barred from U.S. waters

Piraeus based ship manager Polembros Shipping yesterday pleaded guilty in federal court in New Orleans to violating anti-pollution laws, ship safety laws, and making false statements during a U.S. Coast Guard investigation of the M/V Theotokos, the Justice Department announced. According to the plea agreement, Polembros will pay a $2.7 million criminal fine and a separate $100,000 community service payment to the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center, a subunit of Smithsonian Institute. The money will be used to research and mitigate the effects of marine invasive species suspected to be transported in ballast waters of ocean-going vessels. Invasive species can threaten native species and damage the ecosystems of the United States. As part of the plea agreement, Polembros will also serve three years probation. As a condition of the probation, all ships owned or managed by Polembros (currently 20 vessels) will be barred from entering U.S. ports and territorial waters for three years. "Today's guilty plea carries with it a requirement, pending court review, that will prevent the company from participating in economic activity that takes place in territorial ports and waterways of the United States," said John C. Cruden, Acting Assistant Attorney General for the Justice Department's Environment and Natural Resources Division. "The industry should take heed that the Justice Department and our investigative counterparts will continue to prosecute and seek penalties for those who violate our nation's environmental laws." "This case is historic in that it is the first prosecution under the Nonindigenous Aquatic Nuisance Prevention and Control Act. As a component of the Coast Guard's maritime stewardship mission we are committed to the prevention and abatement of environmental crimes including those which may fall under the Nonindigenous Aquatic Nuisance Prevention and Control Act," said Rear Admiral Mary E. Landry, Commander of the Eighth Coast Guard District. Polembros pleaded guilty to violating two counts of the Act to Prevent Pollution from Ships (one count in connection with failing to maintain an accurate oil record book and the other concerning the carrying of fuel oil in a tank forward of the collision barrier); violating the Nonindigenous Aquatic Nuisance Prevention and Control Act, by failing to maintain accurate ballast water records; violating the Ports of Waterways Safety Act, by failing to report hazardous condition of the crack on the rudder stem of the ship; and making false statements by concealing the fact that fuel oil was leaking into the forepeak ballast tank. According to court documents, the ship's master reported the rudder stem crack by phoning Polembros' technical department (part of the land-based management) shortly after the crack was seen following a cargo unloading operation in China. Polembros and its employees knew about that crack prior to the vessel arriving in New Orleans, but the defendant and its employees did not notify or disclose the aft crack to the U.S. Coast Guard until the Theotokos crew was confronted by Coast Guard inspectors on Oct. 1, 2008. The company and its employees knew that before coming to the United States that it was under a legal obligation to notify the Coast Guard of any hazardous condition. A crack on the rudder stem, especially one that allows for the ingress and egress of water, is of particular concern. Prior to the detention of the vessel by the Coast Guard, no repairs were undertaken for the rudder stem crack at sea, or otherwise, prior to arriving in New Orleans. With regard to the oil record book violation, at some point, the ship's oil water separator ceased functioning properly. During the voyage from Korea to Panama, the chief engineer contacted Polembros' land-based management about the problems with the oil water separator. During the ship's operation, bilge waste accumulated and needed to be disposed of to keep the system from overflowing. Because the oil water separator was not functioning properly, the chief engineer directed the engineering crew to bypass the oil water separator and discharge bilge waste directly overboard. The primary overboard outlet for the oily mixtures was through the overboard sewage discharge valve. None of these discharges were recorded, as

required, in the vessel's oil record book, even though the chief engineer was responsible for maintaining its accuracy with regard to machinery space operations. The investigation into the M/V Theotokos led to the first criminal prosecutions under the Nonindigenous Aquatic Nuisance Prevention and Control Act, both the first individual and organization charged under the statute. The false statement charge related to the crew's attempt to conceal the fact that fuel oil was leaking into the forepeak ballast tank. Polembros is set to be sentenced on Dec. 9, 2009. On July 15, 2009, Panagiotis Lekkas, the master and highest ranking officer aboard the ship, pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice and violations of environmental and ship safety laws. Charles P. Posas, the vessel's chief officer, pleaded guilty to one count of false statement and one count of violating the Nonindigenous Aquatic Nuisance Prevention and Control Act. Lekkas and Posas are scheduled to be sentenced on Oct. 14, 2009, and Oct. 1, 2009, respectively. In another related case, the chief engineer of the Theotokos, Georgios Stamou, pleaded guilty to one count of false statements and one count of violating the Act to Prevent Pollution from Ships. Stamou is scheduled to be sentenced on Nov. 5, 2009. The case was investigated by the U.S. Coast Guard Investigative Service with assistance from inspectors from Sector New Orleans as well as legal assistance from U.S. Coast Guard in New Orleans and at Headquarters in Washington, D.C. The case is being prosecuted by Christopher L. Hale of the Justice Department's Environmental Crimes Section along with Dorothy Taylor of the U.S. Attorney's Office in New Orleans. IBF DEFERS PAY DECISIONS A joint statement issued today following an International Bargaining Forum meeting in Manila says that agreement had been reached on “a number of issues lodged by the International Transport Workers' Federation (ITF) and the Joint Negotiating Group relating to the wages and employment conditions affecting seafarers serving on flag of convenience ships”. It adds: “Under the terms of the agreement, a working group has been established to review the system adopted by the IBF to allocate wage increases between cash and social issues and between officer and ratings grades. It is expected that the working group will prepare a report during 2010 concerning any possible changes that might be

made to the current system and it has been agreed that changes to the current wages rates and other wage related issues covered by the claims of the ITF and the JNG will be put on hold until this work is concluded.” This would appear to be a compromise between the union side's demands for a wage increase now and the employers' call for a cut in the total pay package. However the IBF did also agree to release substantial funds to enhance recruitment, training, skills enhancement, employment promotion and career development for seafarers with effect from 1 January 2010. Speaking after the meeting the JNG and ISEG Chairman, Captain T Manji said: “ This outcome represents a pragmatic reaction to a very difficult economic situation affecting the shipping industry. None of the various problems facing us were easy to deal with and the discussions with ITF were difficult and at times frustrating. But overall we are satisfied with the result.” The ITF spokesman, Paddy Crumlin said: “ The negotiations have been particularly difficult this time given the economic situation faced by the industry and the serious problems this has caused for many of our members. But the IBF system has been able to cope with these strains and the outcome provides further positive developments on which we can build our relationships that are essential to the industry.” The JNG spokesman and IMEC Chairman, Ian Sherwood said: “Looking at the positive points about this outcome, IMEC members will be particularly satisfied at the renewed commitment to training and employment promotion that has emerged from the settlement. With very tight economic conditions affecting us, the new funding for training and recruitment will be very welcome.” The International Bargaining Forum meeting in Manila, where floods had caused considerable death and destruction, this week said in it is concluding statement: “During the concluding part of the negotiations, all parties also recognised the terrible devastation that had been caused by tropical storm Ondoy in the previous days. As a result, the members of the IBF agreed unanimously to provide an immediate donation of US$100,000, from the parties within the IBF, to a disaster relief fund to assist those Filipino citizens most in need of support in this time of crisis.” Source : Maritime Global Net

Maersk swaps out Danes for cheaper foreigner workers

Commerce Minister Lene Espersen has no problem with A.P. Moller Maersk’s plans to replace 170 maritime officers with cheaper foreign labour. ‘When a company’s earnings experience a great fall, it’s common sense to react like this,’ said Espersen. ‘It’s about getting through the crisis and being ready for developments to turn around’. Container shipping company Maersk Line announced its plans yesterday to replace Danish workers with foreign ‘competent officers at a much lower price’.

The shipper insisted it is not firing the officers, but offering them voluntary redundancy. Maersk Line has been fighting against falling freight rates and overcapacity since last year. It was reported in August that the shipper’s 6 billion kroner loss, brought the Maersk group’s total loss for the first six months of the year to 3 billion kroner. The Danish Maritime Officers Association called yesterday ‘a dark day for Danish shipping’. ‘Even though the shipper wants to do this voluntarily, it doesn’t change the message, which sounds to me like they want to do away with Danish workers on container ships in favour of cheaper Asian employees,’ said Peer Boje Brandenborg of the association to Business.dk. A.P. Moller Maersk declined to comment on how much they expect to save by replacing the Danish workers. But the Danish Maritime Officers Association estimates the amount to be between 30 and 33 million kroner annually. Source: The Copenhagen

Lloyd Fonds, ship financier, cuts $458.8 million vessel orders

Lloyd Fonds AG, the German company that specializes in shipping and aviation funds, cut $458.8 million of orders for new vessels as slumping world trade lowers demand. The company eliminated orders for four container ships and four commodity transporters, Hamburg-based Lloyd Fonds said in a statement on its Web site yesterday. The decision will cut its “shipping pipeline” to 21 carriers from 29, it said. The industry is grappling with “the worst shipping crisis to date” with 500 idled container ships, the statement said. CMA CGM SA, the world’s third-largest container shipping line, said yesterday it planned to renegotiate and cancel deliveries of some new ships. Source: bloomberg

China-bound cargo vessel MV Asian Forest, which sank off the Mangalore coast on July 17, has showed signs of minor oil leaks twice since it sank. Sources closely monitoring the situation revealed that leaks from the sunken ship were spotted twice: once soon after it sank and again last week. The second leak was spotted by fishermen who observed a film of oil on the sea close to the wreck. Another source, who wished to remain anonymous, said the leak was nothing but “air bubbles coming out from a part of the ship”, adding that leaks had been plugged. The recent leak was so insignificant that there was only a thin film of oil on the water. It could not have been spotted by fishermen. The source said the local agent of the Japan Protection and Indemnity Club, which had insured the ship, had stationed personnel on a small vessel to keep round-the-clock watch near the site of the wreck. The China-bound ship carrying 13,600 tonnes of iron ore fines sank 7.8 nautical miles off the coast of Mangalore. According to K.P. Jayakumar, Nautical Surveyor-cum-Deputy Director of Shipping (Technical), Mercantile Marine Department, the vessel was carrying 366 tonnes of heavy furnace oil and 43 tonnes of diesel. Immediately after the accident, the district administration had asked the ship owner to plug the oil tanks in the ship to avoid any leakage. Additional Deputy Commissioner Prabhakar Sharma had even threatened to take legal action against the owner if timely action was not taken. The Coastal Karnataka Fishermen Action Committee has criticised government officials, the insurance club and the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board for not taking measures to remove the oil from the wreck. Committee general Secretary Vasudev Boloor said that traditional fishermen had sighted tar-like substances about nine nautical miles away from the coast. However, no one had taken up the matter, he said adding that it would lead to serious damage to aquatic life.

Carnival and Royal Caribbean cruise ships collide in Cozumel

A Carnival cruise ship pulling out of Cozumel late Wednesday collided with a Royal Caribbean ship docked nearby in an incident that has left both vessels damaged. Carnival says the 2,124-passenger Carnival Legend had just untied from its berth at the popular Mexican resort town when it was caught by heavy winds and pushed into the 2,446-passenger Enchantment of the Seas.

"Extremely strong winds pushed the vessel up against the side of Royal Caribbean’s Enchantment of the Seas," the line says in a statement to USA TODAY. "The (Royal Caribbean) ship was at dock when the incident occurred. The Carnival Legend sustained broken glass and other minor damage to some open deck areas." A Royal Caribbean spokeswoman tells USA TODAY the

Enchantment suffered what appears to be minor damage to the stern of the ship and some railings. Spokespeople for both lines say they have received no reports of injuries on board their respective ships resulting from the incident, which occurred at about 6:15 pm central time. Both lines say the damage to the ships is not serious and the vessels will proceed with their current itineraries. The Enchantment of the Seas is on a five-night Caribbean cruise out of Ft. Lauderdale. The Carnival Legend is on a seven-night Caribbean cruise out of Tampa. "All appropriate authorities have been notified," Carnival says in its statement. "Following an examination of the vessel by Mexican authorities, the Carnival Legend was cleared to sail on to Belize, its next scheduled port of call." The Enchantment, as it happens, also is heading to Belize. A passenger on the Enchantment of the Seas posting on a personal blog site shortly after the crash said he and some friends watched the incident unfold from the pool deck. "As we're watching (the Legend), it's getting closer and closer. It looked like the wind was pushing the other ship toward us," writes the passenger, who goes by the pen name TheOneBob. "I looked down and saw a tug boat try to get between the two boats, but it was too late. Then the collision became inevitable. There was some crunching and breaking glass noises and the ship rocked to one side a little." Source : USA Today

Kvichak Marine wins export order Kvichak Marine Industries, Seattle, Wash., and Camarc Design, U.K., have teamed up, in close cooperation with the owner, to design and build three pilot boats for the Dutch Pilotage Organization (Loodswezen). The all-weather fast pilot boats will operate from ports along the Dutch coast. With a 75.1 ft overall length and an overall beam of 22.3 ft, the all-aluminum vessels are powered by twin Caterpillar C-32 ACERT engines, coupled to ZF 3050 marine gears. Hamilton 651 water jets are the chosen propulsors. This combination

allows for excellent manoeuvrability and a top speed of about 28.5 knots fully loaded. The boats will provide seating for three operators and 12 pilots and feature Pop-Safe fendering and a floating and removable house. To meet the stringent emission regulations set by the Port of Rotterdam, the boats will each have a Selective Catalytic Reduction system and a diesel particulate filter. The emission performance will see a reduction of 98 percent in particulate matter and a 60 percent reduction of NOx and SOx, fulfilling all new requirements by IMO and EU guidelines. Completion dates are scheduled for January 2010, February 2010 and April 2010. Source : MarineLog

ABG Shipyard gears up to match Bharati's open offer

Shipbuilding firm ABG Shipyard is getting ready to counter the offer price of rival Bharati Shipyard to acquire offshore drilling company Great Offshore. “ABG Shipyard will definitely come up with a counter offer but with the SEBI approval for its open offer expected soon, they are holding their cards close to the chest as far as the pricing is concerned,” a source close to the development said. On September 16, Bharati Shipyard acquired 3.01% stake in Great Offshore from the open market with the highest share price at Rs560, as a result of which the open offer price for acquiring Great Offshore has been revised to Rs560 per share. The transaction was carried out through its sister concern Dhanshree Properties Pvt Ltd. With the latest acquisition, Bharati Shipyard along with its group firm now holds 22.48% stake in Great Offshore. The stock market regulator is likely to approve open offer by both ABG and Bharati to acquire Great Offshore soon. Source: PTI

After getting only two bids for privatization of Croatia's shipyards, the country's privatization fund will hold another one within three weeks, officials said Thursday. "The Croatian privatization fund will hold a new tender in the next two to three weeks," Deputy Prime Minister Damir Polancec told Croatian television. Croatia received only two valid bids in an international tender for its six shipyards on Wednesday, which the daily Jutarnji list called "a fiasco." Croatia, a front-runner to join the European Union, was told by Brussels that it must sell its heavily subsidized shipbuilding industry in order to become a member. Thousands of people depend on shipbuilding, which used to be Croatia's second-largest hard-currency earner, after tourism, but the sector has for years depended on subventions to survive. Vladimir Dmitriev, Chairman of state corporation “Bank of Development and Foreign Economic Activity” (Vnesheconombank), informed at a meeting with Vladimir Putin, reported Administration press service. That is a dry dock and a shipyard for tankers, gas carriers and drilling platforms building. The building commencement is planned for II quarter of the following year so as to simultaneously start first keel lay down in 2011, reported Vladimir Dmitriev. The project will be implemented on project financing basis, added Dmitriev. It means that most part of it will be financed by Vnesheconombank. But taking into consideration the orders that are preliminary discussed with Gasprom, Rosneft, Sovcomflot and a number of other companies it will be possible to get a payback within 10-15 years. RUR 35 billion is a total cost of this project, summed up Dmitriev.

Board of Directors of OJSC United Shipbuilding Corporation is reported to have approved the concept of shipbuilding development in the Far East. There were four plants defined to be involved in shipbuilding in the Far East. Zvezda in particular will be occupied in 250 thousand tons deadweight tankers-gas carriers building in Primorski Krai. It will require construction of large dry docks in the region.

China's COSCO takes over container business at Greek port of Piraeus

The Greek Piraeus Port Authority on Wednesday signed an agreement on transferring the operation of Piraeus container terminals to China's COSCO Pacific Ltd. From Thursday on, Pier 2 and Pier 3 of Piraeus Container Terminals will be under COSCO management for 35 years, according to the agreement. Chief representative of COSCO in Greece said the two sides would work together to build modern container terminals and provide reliable, flexible and high efficient services for shipping companies. Piraeus is the biggest port in Greece and one of the most important ports in the Eastern Mediterranean region. Its handling capacity reached 1.37 million TEUs in 2007. Greek Foreign Minister Dora Bakoyannis told Xinhua that COSCO's participation in the operation of Piraeus Port was important for both economies. Piraeus Port could become an important hub for Chinese goods on the way to the EU markets and to the broader region of Southeastern Europe and the Eastern Mediterranean, she said.

Shipping Corporation of India delays fleet expansion

The Shipping Corporation of India said it will delay the acquisition of 72 new vessels it had planned to buy during the 11th Five-Year Plan covering 2007 to 2012. “The company expects a correction in ship building prices and hence, has put its plans for acquiring vessels on hold,” said Sabyasachi Hajara, chairman and managing director of SCI. Hajara said the state-owned company would instead look at the option of buying second-hand vessels which are much cheaper compared with newbuildings. “Usually, SCI does not buy second-hand ships, but given the market conditions, we are considering acquiring second-hand ships with an average age of two to three years,” he said. The national carrier planned to spend more than $3 billion for the fleet expansion, and placed orders for 28 vessels at a cost of around $1.6 billion. Hajara said despite a marginal recovery in dry bulk rates, the outlook for the shipping market is still grim, and a turnaround is not expected until mid-2010. SCI currently has a fleet of 78 vessels and manages 58 vessels on behalf of various government organizations. Two 4,400-TEU vessels delivered in October last year have been phased into the Indian-Subcontinent-Europe Service, operated in conjunction with Mediterranean Shipping Company since May this year. Meanwhile, in a separate announcement on Thursday, SCI said it will seek a rate increase of $150 per 20-foot equivalent unit for cargo moving from the Indian Subcontinent to Europe, effective Oct. 10. SCI, recently granted more operational freedom and financial autonomy, reported net profit for the April-June quarter dropped 57 percent to $25 million from $58.16 million in the year-ago period. In fiscal 2008-09 ended March 31, profit surged nearly 16 percent from a year earlier to $199 million. Source: joc.com

PRISCO and Sakhalin Energy sign 8-year tanker charter contract

A contract on a long-term charter of the Aniva Bay tanker was signed between Primorsk Shipping Corporation (PRISCO) and project operator “Sakhalin-2” (Sakhalin Energy company), reported a shipping company press-centre. Under the aforementioned contract the103,000-dwt tanker shall ship oil produced at Sakhalin Shelf for 8 years on a 24-hour basis. The Aniva Bay will be third in the list of over-a-hundred deadweight tankers of PRISCO (the other two are the Sakhalin Island and the Governor Farkhutdinov). The latter two have been exporting raw hydrocarbons from Prigorodnoe terminal in the Aniva Bay since December last year. The Aniva Bay tanker was built at Hyundai Heavy Industries Offshore factory, Republic of Korea. It was accepted into operation in June, 2009. It is 245 m long and 42 m wide.

Three tankers, two high-speed passenger vessels owned by PRISCO and the Grand Merea gas-carrier built and used by the company in partnership with Japanese partners are involved in “Sakhalin-2” project.

Dutch container ship offers 40-percent fuel savings

Built in China, the 192-meter Ursa Montana is expected to sail in December carrying more cargo than previously possible. A Dutch shipowner has unveiled details of a large cargo ship that could help reduce fuel consumption by 30 percent to 40 percent when transporting 20-foot containers. Christened the Ursa Montana, the 192-meter (630-foot) vessel is expected to sail on Dec. 10 from the Netherlands to Basel, Switzerland, containing as many as 824 of the 20-foot containers, also referred to as 824 twenty-foot equivalent units (teu). The ship was previously able to carry 500 teu. The added cargo reduces the number of trips necessary, producing a potential fuel savings and emissions reduction of 30 percent to 40 percent. The shipping industry is responsible for nearly 3 percent of global emissions but hasn't been subject to emissions-reduction agreements. Shipping emissions could grow by 150 percent to 250 percent from 2007 levels by maintaining business-as-usual practices because of growth in the sector, according to a study released in May by the International Maritime Organisation. However, the study said the shipping industry could significantly reduce emissions at no cost by employing techniques such as reducing speed, using kite sails, and upgrading machinery in hulls, engines and propellers. The changes could lead to 25 percent to 75 percent reductions in emissions from current levels, the group said. The Ursa Montana consists of two parts that can sail independently. The streamlined ship doesn't need anchors or mooring ropes because it's equipped with a submersible mooring system, which allows it to submerge the hull by

selectively flooding compartments. The ship can also pass under bridges that typically allow cargo ships with just 704 teu. The Chinese-built ship isn't the only innovation to come out of the shipping industry recently, but it's expected to be an early solution to the sector's emissions problems. Japanese shipping giant unveiled a model of its cargo ship in July that could emit 70 percent less emissions thanks to weight reductions, streamlining, and use of renewable energy. Nippon Yusen Kaisha Line (NYK Line) said it wants to use fuel cells, solar cells and wind power on the ship, which is still years from being built Source: Cleantech

Panama Canal Authority once again Trusts JAN DE NUL Group to Dredge

Atlantic Approach Channel Two weeks after receiving the bids for the dredging works of the Atlantic entrance, ACP notified Jan De Nul Group that the firm had been selected as contractor to execute the Atlantic deepening and widening works, part of the Panama Canal Expansion program. Jan De Nul is very familiar with the area to be dredged as the firm was the contractor for the dredging works in the same area in 2005, albeit with a smaller scope. The latest Atlantic entrance dredging project represents an essential part of the Canal's Expansion Program to ensure that larger, wider ships can reach the new locks. This includes lowering the Canal bottom to 15.5 meters below Mean Low Water (MLW), dredging approximately 14.8 million cubic meters and conducting the dry excavation of 800 thousand cubic meters. The area to be dredged on the Atlantic entrance extends approximately 13.8 kilometers and the scope of work also includes widening the existing Atlantic entrance channel from 198 meters to a minimum of 225 meters and the north approach channel to a minimum of 218 meters. The project is worth approx 90 million US$.

On February 27, the ACP released its request for proposals (RFP) for the Atlantic entrance dredging. Subsequently, several bidders attended site visits and a pre-tender meeting held from April through July, which were hosted by the ACP and provided pertinent details on the project. Bids were submitted on September 10th. Continuing its rigorous contracting process, the ACP conducted a careful review of the bids. The Atlantic entrance dredging is one of several key expansion projects that will help create an expanded Panama Canal. Source : Jan de Nul Group

Diving Support MPP Salvage Vessel - Recovering operation Bremerhafen

During an anchor operation the night between the 11th and 12th September 2009, about 65 n. miles outside Bremerhaven the 44,000dwt, 264m LOA car carrier "Taronga" lost her bb 10t anchor and about 350 m chain due to winch failure. Prior to cutting the chain it was marked with a pickup buoy. The Danish flagged Multipurpose Salvage, Diving Support Vessel "Susanne A"was hired in to recover the anchor and chain. Photos : Kim Alfastsen (c)

On 21st september in the afternoon the "Susanne A" arrived at the position and discovered that the pick-up line was not strong enough. The Danish master Kim Alfastsen then decided to catch the anchor chain with a grapnel-anchor connected to a stronger wire. After a few attempts he succeeded and could start the recovery operation. At the next morning the anchor and chain was recovered and laying on deck at "Susanne A", ready to be redelivered to "Taronga", in the meantime

moored in Bremerhaven. "Susanne A" arrived Bremerhaven late afternoon under the bow of "Taronga" and before midnight the anchor and chain was successfully back on "Taronga".

Seabed AS in Norway has successfully completed a contract to supply ROV and vessel services to Fugro Survey AS for the 2009 offshore gravity monitoring and subsidence surveys on the Troll, Sleipner, Midgard and Ormen Lange fields. The survey was conducted from Seabed's new vessel, Seabed Worker, and the end client was StatoilHydro. Completion of the work involved taking 513 gravity measurements on pre-installed benchmarks using the ROV Deep Ocean Gravimeter (ROVDOG) instrument package. During the 28 day campaign the system performed 272 dives with over 500 hours in the water while accumulating only 0.4 per cent downtime. The combination of the vessel's Voith Scheider propulsion system and ODIM LARS active heave compensated launch and recovery system contributed to the success of these operations in sea conditions of up to 4m significant wave heights, where both minimising time between measurements and care in handling of the ROVDOG contributed to the quality of data acquired. “The survey was a great success because the pilots all took the job seriously, they listened carefully to our requirements, and then they worked diligently to meet those requirements. They were willing to collaborate with us to obtain high quality measurements,” said Mark Zumberge, Research Geophysicist, Scripps Institution of Oceanography and Scripps team leader onboard Seabed Worker.
