TheDodgerswereintherecordbusinessFridaynight.Withhis fourthof a season-high14 strikeouts against theBrewers, ClaytonKershaw surpassed2,000strikeouts for his career, and that was just the beginning for Dodger pitchers on a night they set aNationalLeaguerecordandtiedaMajorLeaguerecordwith26strikeoutsina2–1winin12innings.TheDodgersandBrewerscombinedtofan42battersinthegame.AssensationalasKershawwas,BrewersstarterJimmyNelsonwasjustasmasterfulholdingtheDodgersofftheboardwhilestrikingout11ineightinningsofwork.Becauseofthat,Kershaw — whohadretired20straightbeforeDomingoSantanabrokeascorelessgamewithahomerun intheseventh inning — was indangerof suffering the loss, something that’sneverhappenedbefore inagame inwhichhe’sstruckoutatleast12batters.YasmaniGrandal,CodyBellingerandtheDodgerbullpenensuredFridaywouldn’tmarkthefirsttime.Grandaltiedthegamewithahomerunintheninthinning,andaDodgerbullpenthatstruckout12infivescoreless inningshelpedset thestage forBellinger toprovide thegame-winning runwitha12th-inninghomerforhisteam-leading12homerunoftheyear.
