PUBLIC HEALTH MESSAGE

RAPID TESTING NOW AVAILABLE AT MAMMOTH HOSPITAL April 20, 2020 - Rapid in-house testing comes to Mammoth Hospital thanks to their laboratory team, who tirelessly worked to develop and validate the new rapid in-house test. Q: How long does it take to get results? A: Results are obtained in approximately one hour. Q: How is the test performed? A: The test is still performed using a nasal swab (yes, it’s really uncomfortable).

Page 6: DAILY BRIEFING | CORONAVIRUS 19 PANDEMIC€¦ · April 20, 2020 - Rapid in-house testing comes to Mammoth Hospital thanks to their laboratory team, who tirelessly worked to develop

Q: Does this mean anyone can get tested? A: You must still meet testing criteria as defined by Mammoth Hospital and Mono County Public Health. If you are symptomatic, or if you have been specifically referred by the Public Health Department for testing, you qualify for a test. Please contact Mono County Public Health’s nurse hotline at 2-1-1 or 760-924-1830. Q: What about antibody testing? A: We realize that this is big on everyone’s minds, but unfortunately, we do not have antibody testing in Mono County, and we do not have an ETA for this test at this time. Thank you, Mammoth Hospital team, for all your hard work on getting this rolling. Every small decision we make saves lives. We cannot overstate how much each of you have helped us crush the curve. Keep it up!

Dear Mammoth Lakes Recreation Enthusiasts, I hope this note finds you healthy and well during these challenging times. It has been a difficult period for everyone, however, on the positive side, it is great to see so many of you enjoying the ‘Quarantivity of the Day’, Social Distancing Easter Egg Hunt, or getting outside now that Spring has arrived. We know we can count on you to recreate responsibly and respect the safety closures that are necessary at this time. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. The indiscriminate spread of the coronavirus is distressing for us all, as are the dramatic impacts to our quality of life in the Eastern Sierra. We are definitely operating in unchartered territory. Parks and Recreation continues to work closely with Mono County Health Department to ensure we are receiving credible information and are following all federal, state and local health guidelines in the fight against COVID-19. Out of an abundance of caution, we have made the difficult decision to suspend all summer programming and camps indefinitely. The health and well-being of our community is our top priority, and in the current situation, we feel we are unable to ensure your safety. The restriction on group gatherings and social distancing requirements that are critical in preventing the transmission of COVID-19 cannot be maintained in the course of our traditional summer operations. We appreciate your support and understanding as we endeavor to adapt to this new reality. We know that many of you enjoy and rely on our Signature Summer Camps. We want to assure you that staff are working hard to produce programming alternatives, such as virtual summer camps and scavenger hunts. The situation is also very dynamic. With any changes in local or state government recommendations, we will reevaluate our decisions and respond accordingly. We encourage you to visit our website (www.mammothparksandrec.com) or the Mammoth Parks N Rec Facebook page for updates, activities and to stay connected. Please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have. Any ideas or feedback regarding programming options are also very welcome. Stay healthy and safe, and we hope to see you all very soon!

GOVERNOR NEWSOM ANNOUNCES CROSS-SECTOR PARTNERSHIPS TO SUPPORT DISTANCE LEARNING AND BRIDGE THE DIGITAL DIVIDE April 20, 2020 - Governor Gavin Newsom today announced new cross-sector partnerships to support the state’s distance learning efforts and help bridge the digital divide. “School may be physically closed, but class is still in session,” said Governor Newsom. “But for class to be in session, it is imperative that California addresses the inequities in access to computers, technology tools and connectivity to ensure that online learning can in fact reach all of California’s children. It’s inspiring to see parents, teachers, businesses and philanthropy step up to meet this moment and provide tools to help bridge the digital divide and get more students connected.” “I am beyond grateful for the generosity and leadership of our community leaders to help us bridge the technology gap that too many California families are facing,” said First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom. “As a mother of four, I know well that the challenges of distance learning can take a toll – both on the child and the parent. That is why it is crucial we close the digital divide and work to ensure that every child has what they need to reach their full potential.”

Approximately one in five students in California lack high-speed Internet or an appropriate computing device at home. In a parent survey two weeks ago, 50 percent of low-income families and 42 percent of families of color reported that they lacked the laptop, Chromebook, or tablet needed to access distance learning. “We are so thankful to everyone that is stepping up to help us close the digital divide. These efforts will truly make an impact in the lives of our students and an even greater impact as we work to close achievement gaps that existed before this public health crisis,” said State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond. “I look forward to continuing these efforts with my “Closing the Digital Divide” task force, co-chaired by Senator Connie Leyva, because we are stronger together, and together, we can close the digital divide for all students in California.” Earlier this month, Governor Newsom issued a call to action to business, government, and community leaders to help bridge the digital divide. Leaders across sectors stepped up to heed the call. Read More
