Daemon 2iC – Case Study
THE CAMPAIGNTo demonstrate Breville’s ongoing commitment to design excellence and innovation in Australia, Daemon 2iC developed and implemented the inaugural ‘Breville Young Designer Award’ program.
The award scheme was developed to discover Australia’s most talented young designers by inviting final year industrial design students, from universities across the country, to design a Breville kitchen appliance. The winner would receive a one year placement in Breville’s award-winning design team.
Daemon 2iC secured guest lectures at top universities for the Breville design team to introduce the award to the students and encourage them to submit their designs for a ‘healthy eating’ appliance.
Four finalists were invited to Sydney where they developed models of their design, with the help of a mentor from Breville’s award-winning design team.
A finalist dinner was held at Café Sydney where the winner was announced by Breville’s CEO Joe Hersch and Innovation Director, Richard Hoare. Kellie Jobling received the 2006 Young Designer Award for her Hydroponic Herb Grower.
THE RESULTSBreville were extremely impressed by the calibre of award entries and will be continuing the Young Designer Award in 2007 and beyond.
The universities were so supportive of the scheme that 6 of the most reputable design schools have agreed to make the Breville Young Designer Award part of the final year curriculum including, University of NSW, Monash and UTS.
In addition, Breville’s design team is looking forward to their new recruit joining them early in 2007.
