Happy New Year! Now that the New Year is here, I want to take a moment to reflect on our accomplishments from this past year. We are thankful for all the wonderful

projects that we have completed last year including the complete bunker renovation of the Blue Course, the new bridge on #2 Blue and the new restroom on #5 Blue course to name a few. Going forward we will continue to finalize some of our projects we have been discussing throughout 2015. The Gold Course Bunker Renovation is currently underway and that project should be completed by mid- April. Look for news on the planned projects in the upcoming months.

It was great to visit with our many members at the Member Open House on December 13. We had an overwhelming response to our Toy Drive from our members which will help many families in need in the local area. Mesquite Social Services is very grateful for our donations. We know a great time was had by all our members. It is also the time of year to thank all of our members for their generous donations to the Christmas Fund. Our employees have expressed their thanks and appreciation for your generosity.

As we begin the year, the Board of Directors will continue with our Strategic planning for the future of the Club. Many of you do not know that a few short years away, in 2019, the Club will celebrate its Centennial Year. The Board is always mindful of this important milestone while

we continue to strive for giving our members the best family facilities for our members.

Our Nominating Committee has been meeting since November and they will be selecting a slate of candidates for our Annual Election to the Board of Directors which will take place in February. We will announce the names of the Board candidates elected at our Annual Meeting on March 9, 2016. Please save the date for the Annual Meeting where we share the results of the past year at the Club with our members.

Speaking on behalf of your Board of Directors, we appreciate all of our members and our staff and look forward to a fun and exciting year. See you at the Club!

A Letter from your CLUB PRESIDENT - Mike Moran

Page 5: DAC Club Newsletter January-February 2016

The courses have recovered very well since the summer drought. It is wonderful to see all the lakes full again. The crews are working diligently to remove all the leaves that have fallen. With our seasonal color and loss of

foliage, we now have a beautiful winter look.

BUNKER RENOVATIONOur bunker renovation on the

Gold course is progressing well. Chet Williams is making modifi-cations that not only enhance the look, but will give the members easier access to the bunkers. Cur-rently we estimate completing the back nine in early February. Our Maintenance crew will be-gin removing the sand from the front nine bunkers during the

second half of January. We pre-dict completion of the project in April, bearing any major weather delays. The contractor is doing a great job of keeping hole closures to a minimum. Once the new sand arrives and is blended, the crew will begin filling the bunkers that have been completed.

Thanks for your patience.

Happy New Year!

Information on the Implementation of Rule 14-1bLance Patterson, PGA - Director of Golf

DALLAS ATHLETIC CLUB | JAN-FEB 2016 | 8

Guidance on Playing in Conformance with Rule 14-1bRule 14-1b focuses only on the method of stroke; it does not limit the conforming equipment that may be used. While making a stroke, a player may not anchor the club (i) “directly” or (ii) indirectly through use of an “anchor point.” These concepts are explained in the Rule:

14-1b Anchoring the Club In making a stroke, the player must not anchor the club, either “directly” or by use of an “anchor point.”

Note 1: The club is anchored “directly” when the player intentionally holds the club or a gripping hand in contact with any part of his body, except that the player may hold the club or a gripping hand against a hand or forearm.

Note 2: An “anchor point” exists when the player intentionally holds a forearm in contact with any part of his body to establish a gripping hand as a stable point around which the other hand may swing the club.

Penalty: Match play – Loss of hole; Stroke play – Two strokes

Answers to Frequently Asked Questions The following FAQs respond to various questions received by the USGA and The R&A about the application of Rule 14-1b:

Does this Rule apply only to strokes made from the putting green?

No. Rule 14-1b applies to all types of stroke (i.e., putts, chip shots, pitch shots, full-length shots, etc.), regardless of where those strokes are made (i.e., putting green, fringe, fairway, rough, tee, and everywhere else on the course).

Is this a ban on belly putters and long putters?

No. A player may still use any conforming belly (mid-length) or long putter. Rule 14-1b addresses only the method of stroke, prohibiting a player from anchoring the club directly or by use of an anchor point while making a stroke.

The following images show players using belly and long putters in a permissible manner under Rule 14-1b.

What methods of stroke are prohibited?

Rule 14-1b prohibits only a few types of strokes in which the club is intentionally anchored, either directly or through use of a forearm to establish an anchor point against the body. All other currently permissible types of strokes and styles of grip will remain permissible.

The following images show the two most common types of stroke that are prohibited under the Rule.
