D6A Ultra High-Strength Steel For Military Applications Our D6A ultra high-strength steel is a high-quality clean, air-melted steel that we melt in an electric arc furnace, vacuum degas and refine to meet critical customer requirements. We create tailored steel products and services for demanding military applications, helping you meet your material performance needs to complete the required mission. You can heat-treat D6A to ultimate tensile strengths as high as 280 KSI with a high yield-to-tensile strength ratio and good ductility. Because of the high hardenability of D6A, you can through-harden it in large section sizes. Customers use D6A in critical military applications where high strength and toughness are essential. We apply our proprietary air-melt steel practices to provide ultra-clean air-melt steels with oxide inclusion contents that rival that of vacuum arc re-melted steels. We conducted laboratory studies of our ultra high-strength D6A steel, and the data from these studies are available on the back page. We austenitized the samples at 1675°F (913°C) for 60 minutes, quenched them in room-temperature oil, and tempered the samples for four hours at temperatures indicated. We have developed our heat-treat practices to achieve these results consistently.

D6A Ultra High-Strength SteelFor Military Applications

Our D6A ultra high-strength steel is a high-quality clean, air-melted steel that we melt in an electric arc furnace, vacuum degas and refine to meet critical customer requirements.

We create tailored steel products and services for demanding military applications, helping you meet your material performance needs to complete the required mission.
