    1.3.2.1 Creating a new scenario

Figure 1-7: Window to create a new Scenario shows the window to create a new scenario. The fields marked with asterisk (*) are mandatory.

1- Scenario ID/Name: To specify a unique ID/name for the scenario.

2- Conditions: To record the environmental conditions at a specific day/time of the hazard.

3- Relationships: To specify and link any information that has been created, for example, EO products, simulations, images etc., in relation to the scenario/hazard under consideration.

4- Related Information: To record any further information, for example, the impact level, number of casualties/ injured people at a specific day and time etc. available in relation to the hazard/scenario.

The Save button at the bottom of the window creates a new scenario.

    Simulations 1.3.3

In the Release-A phase, only the fire simulator was implemented and integrated into the

HEIMDALL platform. Similar to the Scenarios tab, two options – Fetch and New – are

    available under this tab.

    1.3.3.1 Creating a new simulations

Figure 1-9(a) below shows the window to create a new fire simulation. The fields marked

    with asterisk (*) are mandatory.

1- Simulation identifier: To specify a unique name for the simulation. Description is optional.

2- Duration/Time: To specify the duration and start time of the simulation.

    20/12/2018 11

3- Ignition Point: Allows specifying the ignition point/location for the simulation on a map as shown in Figure 1-9(b).

4- Weather: To specify the weather conditions that serves as an input to the simulator.

The Run button at the bottom of the window executes a new simulation. The simulation will run in the background for a few seconds/minutes.

Figure 1-9: Window to (a) execute a new simulation (b) to select ignition point/ location

    1.3.3.2 Simulation Results

Results of a simulation can be displayed over the cartography by inputting the ID returned from the simulation run (Figure 1-10).

The extent/behaviour of the simulated parameter at any point in time, within the duration specified as simulation input, can be observed by moving the slider. A choice of parameters – output of the simulator (e.g. flame length, time of arrival, rate of spread) - is available as a dropdown menu.

    Alerts 1.3.4

As shown in Figure 1-12, two options – Fetch and New – are available under this tab.

Figure 1-12: Options available under the Alerts tab.

    1.3.4.1 Creating a new alert

As shown in Figure 1-13, creation of a message is a multiple-step process that necessitates defining:

The area(s) in which the citizens should be alerted. The area(s) can be selected from a pop-up window displaying a map.

The intended audience – private or public

Information about the hazard – type, certainty and severity.

Information about when the hazard starts and when the message expires.

The response action and urgency of the action with any additional instructions if needed.

    Translation(s) if needed.

Resources (if needed to provide more information about the alert) It is possible to navigate through these steps by pressing back or next. As the user moves down the list of entries, the alert message is composed in the panel at the bottom which the user is prompted to review before dispatching.

    2.2 Main Window

The menu options on the main window, as shown in Figure 2-1(b), after a successful login include:

1- Location – allows sending location information to the web portal. The responder can visualise his/her own location and send this information to the web portal using the Send Location feature as shown in Figure 2-2.

2- Picture – enables first responder users to take pictures and send it to the HEIMDALL web portal to help the authorities to visualise the situation on the field.

3- Logout - enables the user to logout from the HEIMDALL platform

4- Message - (shown in brown box) enables first responder users to initiate a chat session with the authorities (using web portal) to communicate with the authorities using the web portal. The user can type in the Message field and use the Send button to send the message.
