IntroductionMost systems are already configured by the manufacturer or distributor. There is no need to run theSetup Utility when starting the computer unless you get a Run Setup message.
Setup Utility can set the system functions and the hardware configuration of the onboard devices.
You can select the following items in the Setup Utility :
Main includes all the items in standart compatible BIOS.
Advanced includes all the items of AMI special enhancedfeatures
Security Security functions, limitation of access the system andsetup.
Boot Sets the boot sequence
Server includes the basic management and administrationfunctions.
Exit There are four options in this selection:
− Exit Saving Changes
− Exit Discarding Changes
− Load Default Settings
− Load Original Values
iThe individual menus and setting options are described in the following chapters. Sincethe setting options and menus depend on the hardware configuration of your device,some of them may not be offered in the Setup Utility.

Using the Setup Utility Calling the Setup UtilityÊ Restart the system by switching the power off/on or pressing [Ctrl][Alt][Del] (warm boot).
If Silent Boot is set to Enabled, the following message is displayed at the bottom of the screen:
DEL: Setup F8: Boot Menu F12: Network bootÊ Press the [Del] key to enter the Setup Utility.
Ê If you have assigned a password, you must enter this password and confirm it with the [Enter]key.

At the bottom of the screen more detailed information about how to move within a screenand how to change to the next screen is given.
! If you use console redirection feature (Hyperterminal connected to Serial #1) the Setupkey is charged.
Please use [F4] to enter the Setup utility.

Selecting an itemÊ To select an item in the Setup Utility main menu, move the highlighted bar by using the cursor
keys [↑ ] or [↓ ].
Ê press [Enter] to enter the submenu or to accept the value.
Changing a valueÊ To change the input for the selected item, press the cursor keys [PgUp] / [+] or [PgDn] / [-]
until you find the setting you want.
i If you change any settings in the Setup Utility, make a note of these changes.
Ê press [Enter] to accept the chosen value.
Calling up for InformationÊ Press [F1] to display a help window that describes the appropriate keys to use and the
possible selections for the highlighted item.
Ê To exit the Help Window press [Esc].

Restoring previous Setup DefaultsÊ Press [F5] to return to the previous Setup Defaults.

Exiting the Current Submenu or Setup UtilityÊ Press [Esc] to quit the current submenu, when you are in a submenu.

Summary of Setup Utility KeysThe following table shows a summary of selectable keys and their functions, available in the SetupUtility:

Menu Main The following screen appears if youcall the Setup Utility by pressing the [Del] key.
System DateThe date is shown in the format "month:day:year" (MM: DD: YYYY) (YYYY: 1099~2099).
The day automatically changes when you set the date.
System TimeThe time ist shown in the format "hours:minutes:seconds (HH:MM:SS).
The time is calculated based on the 24-hour military time clock.

Floppy Drive AThis item identifies the type of floppy disk drive A that have been installed in the computer.Differentsettings are possible in this menu. The settings depend on the floppy diks drive installed.

720KB, 3.5 inch 3.5 inch double-sided drive; 720K byte capacity

IDE Primary MasterThis item specifies the current configuration of the IDE device connected to the primary IDE channelinterface. It allows you to configure the hard disk drive connected to the master port of the IDEchannel.The category identifies the types of hard disk from drive C to F that has been installed in thecomputer. There are two types: auto type and manual type. Manual type is user-definable; Auto typewhich will automatically detect HDD type.

CPU Typeindicates the type of current CPU.
CPU Speedindicates the maximum speed of current CPU.
Cache Sizeindicates the maximum size of current CPU.
Memory Sizeindicates the installed memory size.
BIOS Versionindicates the current BIOS version.

Menu AdvancedThe Advanced menu contains five submenus in which additional settings can be made:

! You should only change the default settings for special applications. Incorrect settings cancause malfunctions.
With this section the user is allowed to configure the system for basic operation. User can changethe system default boot-up sequence, keyboard operation, shadowing and security, etc.

Show Full Screen LogoEnabled During the POST phase full screen logo is displayed
Disabled BIOS POST information is displayed..
Quick BootThis setting allows BIOS to skip certain tests while booting. This will decrease time needed to bootthe system.
Enabled Enables Quick Boot function (default).
Disabled Disables Quick Boot function.
BIOS Flash ProtectionSelects the BIOS flash memory protect mode.
All Blocks Locked all blocks are locked
Top Block Locked Only only the top block is locked (default).
All Blocks Unlocked no block is locked

MPS Version for O.SThis option allows the user to select MP (Multi Processors) system supported version.

Halt OnThe category determines whether the computer will stop if an error is detected during power up.
All Errors: Whenever the BIOS detects an error, the system will be stopped .
NO Errors: The system boot will not stop for any error that may be detected and you will be prompted (default).
All, But Keyboard: The system boot will not stop for a keyboard error; it will stop for all other errors.
All, But Diskette: The system boot will not stop for a disk error; it will stop for all other errors.
All, But Disk/Key: The system boot will not stop for a keyboard or disk error; it will stop for all other errors.
Advanced PCI ConfigurationHere you can determine the scan order, the sequence in which onboard components are prompted.

Enabled initializes device option ROM that means the BIOS of the adapter in this PCI slot isstarted from System BIOS (default).

Enabled initializes onboard SCSI option ROM (default).

Clock Gen Spread Spectrumthis item sets the Spread Spectrum mode for the clock generator (EMC behaviour of themainboard).

Hyper Threadingthis item sets the Hyper Threading mode (that there is an additional virtuell processor on themainboard).
Ê select Enabled, if you have a hyper threading compatible CPU.

Power Management ConfigurationThe Power Management Configuration menu allows you to configure the system´s powermanagement and energy saving features to reduce system power consumption.
Modem Ring On/Wake On LANThis item allows a connected device (e.g.fax or modem) to activate the system from sleep mode.
Enabled: activates Wake Up Ring/Wake On LAN function. (default)
Disabled: deactivates Wake Up Ring/Wake On LAN function.

PME Event Wake UpThis option allows you to activate or deactivate the PME Event Wake Up function that a PME eventwill return the system to normal operation.

Resume By RTC AlarmThe Resume By RTC Alarm menu allows you to activate the system from suspend mode at apredefined time and day.
Disabled: Disables the Resume By RTC Alarm function (default.
Enabled: Enables the Resume By RTC Alarm function.
RTC Alarm Date : Every Day,1~31
Condition: The Resume By RTC Alarm function is Enabled.
The system will resume in operation mode on the specified date.
RTC Alarm Hour:0~23
Condition: The Resume By RTC Alarm function is Enabled.
The system will resume in operation mode on the specified hour.
RTC Alarm Minute : 0~59
Condition: The Resume By RTC Alarm function is Enabled.
The system will resume in operation mode on the specified minute.

Condition: The Resume By RTC Alarm function is Enabled.

OnBoard IDEThis item allows you to enable/disable the integrated IDE hard disk controller. The associatedinterrupts will only be available if no IDE hard disk drive is physically connected.
Enabled: Enables the onboard IDE (default).
Disabled: Disables this function.
OnBoard FDCThis item is used to enable/disable the integrated floppy disk controller on the system board.
Enabled: Activates the onboard floppy disk controller. (default)
Disabled: Disables the onboard floppy disk controller.
Serial 1This item selects the address and the interrupt used to access the relevant serial port 1.
3F8/COM1: Enables onboard serial port 1 and set I/O address to 3F8/COM1. (default)
disabled: Disables onboard serial port 1.

Serial 2This item selects the address and the interrupt used to access the relevant serial port 2.
2F8/COM2: Enables onboard serial port 2 and set I/O address to 2F8/COM2 (default).
disabled: Disables onboard serial port 2.
USB Function switches the USB host controller (Universal Serial Bus) of the system board on or off.
Enabled The USB controller is enabled. The system BIOS determines which system resources(interrupts, addresses) are used (default).
Disabled The USB controller is disabled.
USB Legacy Supportspecifies whether the USB keyboard emulation is still active after the operating system is started. Ifa USB keyboard is used, the emulation for the Setup Utility is always switched on.
Enabled: Enables support for legacy USB (default).
Disabled: Disables support for legacy USB.
Onboard Gigabit LANsEnabled: Enables onboard LAN device (default).
Disabled: Disables onboard LAN device.
OnBoard SCSI Channel AThis option allows to activate onboard SCSI chipset.
Enabled The U320SCSI controller is enabled (default).
Disabled The U320SCSI controller is disabled.
i When using a Zero Channel RAID Controller (PCI card in slot 3), choose enabled.

Menu SecurityThe Security menu offers various options for protecting system and personal data from unauthorizedaccess. By combining these options, maximum protection for the system can be achieved.
Ê Select Securitys in the Setup Utility main menu by pressing the [Enter] key to display the menu:
Possible security featuresSupervisor password (also setup password) prevents unauthorized calling of the Setup Utility. Onlythose (e.g. a supervisor or an administrator) who know the Setup password can call the Setup Utility.You must also set a supervisor password to make the user password effective.User password (also system password) prevents unauthorized access to the device. With thesystem password you can prevent booting of the operating system. Only those who know thesystem password can access the system.
With this two passwords you can protect your BIOS and your System:
1. You can prevent unauthorized Setup Utility entry by setting a supervisor password in the SystemSecurity menu (see section "Set Supervisor Password").
2. You can prevent unauthorized system access by setting a user password in the System Securitymenu (see section "Set User Password")
Set Supervisor PasswordCondition: The Set Supervisor password setting must be Enter.

All alphanumerical characters can be used, but no differentiation is made between upperand lower case.Passwords are not displayed when they are entered.
Make sure you remember your passwords - otherwise you will not be able to boot thesystem or access the Setup Utility!
If you have forgotten your passwords, please contact the technical customer service.
To set the supervisor password, proceed as follows:
Ê Call the Setup Utility.
Ê Select the Security menu.
Ê Select the Set Supervisor Password item and press [Enter] to display the Set Supervisor Passwordmenu.

Enter new Supervisor Password
Ê Enter the password and press the [Enter] key.
You are asked to confirm the password:
Retype new Supervisor Password
Ê Enter the password again and press the [Enter] key.
The following screen appears:
Ê Press any key to save the supervisor password.
The password is set. Now the User Password option is activated.
Ê Press [Esc] to return to the Security menu.
How to change or delete a supervisor passwordTo change the supervisor password, proceed as follows:
Ê Call the Setup Utility.
Ê Select the Security menu.
Ê Select the Set Supervisor Password item and press [Enter] to display the Set Supervisor Passwordmenu.
You will be asked to:

You will be asked to enter a new supervisor password:

The following screen appears:

To set the user password, proceed as follows:

How to change or delete a user passwordTo change the supervisor password, proceed as follows:

Menu BootThe Boot menu allows the user to select between four possible types of boot devices listed using theup and down arrow keys.

Promotion or demotion of devices alerts the priority that the system uses to search for boot deviceon system power on.

These three fields determines which type of device the system attempt to boot from after AMIBIOSPost completed.
Specifies the boot sequence from the available devices. If the first device is not a bootable device,the system will seek for next available device.

Menu ServerThe Server menu provides the basic management function for administrator.
Boot WatchdogThe Boot Watchdog supervises the OS booting process.
If there is an error during the OS boot phase, the booting process is aborted and a log message iswritten.
Enabled enables OS Boot watchdog during the OS boot phase.
Disabled: Disables the boot watchdog function (default).
Boot Watchdog Timedetermines the boot watchdog function and time, the maximum time, after which Bott Watchdog hasto run. Within this time the operating system has to be loaded, if not, the Boot Watchdog intervenes.
0-99 min: select the desired boot watchdog time
Disabled: Disables the boot watchdog function (default).

Boot Retry CounterA Boot Retry Counter is a counter which counts the number of aborted boot processes.
0, 1, 2, 3 (default), 4, 5, 6, 7
Boot Watchdog Timeout BehaviorWith this setting the user can decide what shall happen, if the operating system is not booted.
Continue the system continues booting.
Hard Reset: the system is shut down and restarted (warm boot) default.
Power Cycle: the system is switched off and restarted after waiting a moment (cold boot).
Diagnostic System BootThis setup item specifies the action that takes place, after the boot watchdog has expired.
Power off the system ist swichted off.
Boot from RSB: the system is rebootet from RSB.
Boot from PXE: the system is rebootet from PXE (default).
ASR&R Boot DelayASR&R stands for Automatic Server recovery and Reboot.
It defines the time when system is powered on again due to shut down caused by a criticalcondition.
System After AC BackHere you can decide in which state the system shall return.
Off-State: the system ist shut down (default).
On-State: the system is restarted.
Last State: the system returns to the last state.
Temperature MonitoringMonitors the system, if temperature reaches a critical value.
Enabled system switches off when critical temperature is reached.
Disabled: Disables this function (default).

When a uncorrectable error happens or system does memory correction too often, the status ofphysical bank of this specific memory module will be set to Failed.
After this status is Failed, the system will boot up with the rest of GOOD memory. If the user setsthis option to Disabled, the system will boot up with the rest of GOOD memory as well.

Beep CodesThe BIOS outputs audible beeps through the PC speaker to indicate errors that occur duringBootblock and POST execution. Beep codes are an additional method to inform the user that anerror has occurred besides the standard practice of displaying text messages to the monitor. Theerror beep codes defined in this document are inherent to the specific core release and do notinclude any chipset or OEM specific beep code definitions.
Definition of Bootblock Error Beep CodesIn the case of Bootblock where video is not available for text messages to be displayed, speakerbeeps are necessary to inform the user of an error. The following table describes the type of errorbeep codes that may occur during the Bootblock portion of the BIOS:
