C27 Engine. Performing at full-rated netpower of 433 kW (580 hp) at 1800 rpmwith a high torque rise of 21 percent,the large displacement and high torquerise allow the D10T to doze throughtough material. Matched to the highefficiency torque divider andelectronically controlled power shifttransmission, it will provide years ofdependable service.

C27 Block. The C27 eliminates internalbends and turns within the engineresulting in improved airflow. Theblock features a design that addsstructural strength through compactionand thicker walls. This design supportsthe engine’s higher compression ratios.

Overhead Cams. Two, single (one perhead) overhead cams are driven bygears on the flywheel end of the engine.Placing the cam gears at the flywheelend significantly reduces noise andvibration. To reduce wear, twopendulum absorbers are mounted at thefront of the camshafts. Together, thesetwo features contribute to the long-lifeand durability of this engine.

ADEM™ A4 Engine Controller. TheADEM A4 electronic control modulemanages fuel delivery and airflow to getthe best performance per gallon (liter)of fuel used. It provides flexible fuelmapping, allowing the engine torespond quickly to varying applicationneeds. It keeps track of engine andmachine conditions while keeping theengine operating at peak efficiency.

Fuel Delivery. Multiple injection fueldelivery involves a high degree ofprecision. Precisely shaping thecombustion cycle lowers combustionchamber temperatures, generating feweremissions and optimizing fuelcombustion; translating into more workoutput for your fuel used.

MEUI Fuel System. A highly evolvedfuel system with a proven record ofreliability in the field. MEUI combinesthe technical advancement of anelectronic control system with thesimplicity of direct mechanicallycontrolled unit fuel injection. TheMEUI system excels in its ability tocontrol injection pressure over the entireengine operating speed range. Thesefeatures allow the C27 to have completecontrol over injection timing, duration,and pressure.

Remote ATAAC and Airflow. Remoteair-to-air aftercooling keeps air intaketemperatures down and, in concert withthe tight tolerance combustion chambercomponents, maximizes fuel efficiencyand minimizes emissions. Significantimprovements in air flow are generatedby water-cooled turbochargers, uniquecross-flow head, single rear-driven

overhead cams, and a more efficientintake manifold.

Service. Easier maintenance and repairthrough monitoring key functions andlogging critical indicators. Electronicdiagnostic access is possible with asingle tool, the Caterpillar ElectronicTechnician.

1) Steering Control. Finger Tip Control(FTC) combines steering, machinedirection and gear selection into a singlecontrol system, which can be operatedwith one hand for enhanced operatorcomfort.

2) Cat Comfort Series Seat. Fullyadjustable and designed for comfort andsupport. Thick seat and back cushionsprovides support for the lower back andthighs, while allowing unrestricted armand leg movement. Wide retractableseat belt provides positive, comfortablerestraints.

3) Adjustable Armrests. Standardadjustable armrests provide additionalcomfort for the operator.

4) Electronic Ripper Control. A rigidlymounted handgrip, with low effortthumb and finger controls, providesfirm support and positive control of theripper when operating in toughconditions. Programmable features,such as Auto Lift, Shank-Out and AutoStow, increase efficiency for theoperator.

5) Electronic, Programmable DozerControl. Features such as bladeresponse, blade float, auto blade pitch,and spread rate can be set and adjustedusing the Advisor panel. Auto BladeAssist (standard) and AutoCarry(optional) make the tractor even moreefficient in specific applications.

6) Cat Monitoring Display System. Thecombination dash mounted instrumentcluster and the Advisor MonitoringSystem provide key machine operatinginformation and give the operator andservice technician insight into themachine’s operation and maintenanceneeds.

In-Dash Instrument Cluster. Theinstrument panel, with easy-to-readgauges and warning lamps, keeps theoperator aware of any potentialproblems. All gauges and readouts areeasily visible in direct sunlight.

Advisor Monitoring System (AMS). On-board diagnostic abilities minimizedowntime and maximize machineperformance.

7) Wide Panoramic View. The operatorstation offers an exceptional viewingarea. A large view hole in the single-shank ripper frame provides a view ofthe ripper tip. The tapered hood,notched fuel tank, and narrow single-shank ripper carriage gives the operatora clear line of sight to the front and rearwork areas. The large single-pane doorwindows provide an excellent view tothe sides and blade.

8) Heating and Air Conditioning.Conveniently located air circulationvents evenly distribute airflow withinthe cab. Controls are easily accessiblefrom the operator seat.

Fuse Panel and Diagnostic Access. Thenew compartment features a singlelocation fuse panel that includes adiagnostic port for the Cat ET toconnect for rapid machine diagnostics.

Comfortable Operation. Standardisolation-mounted cab reduces noiseand vibration. The cab is pre-wired for a12-volt or 24-volt radio, equipped withtwo speakers, an antenna and a radiomount recessed in the headliner.

Dozer Control Lever. A low-effort,electronic dozer control handle givesthe operator control of all dozerfunctions with one hand. Fore/aftmovement of the lever lowers and raisesthe blade. Left/right movementdirectionally tilts the blade. The thumblever at the top of the handle controlsblade pitch fore and aft. The triggerswitch toggles between single and dualtilt.

Automated Blade Assist (ABA). A semi-automatic dozer control function thatincreases efficiency while reducingoperator workload by automating someof the more common blade functions.The ABA system for a dual-tilt tractorcontains Auto Pitch.

Auto Pitch. Presetting blade pitch anglesfor optimal performance during thedozing cycle: one setting each for load,carry, spread and return. Auto Pitch isactivated on the Advisor keypad; theoperator can select the dozing segmentby pushing the yellow button on the leftside of the dozer handle.

Computer Aided Earthmoving System(CAES) (optional). This on-boardelectronic site plan directs machineoperators, in real-time, where to cut andfill. A graphical map of the design planand a view of the machine’s horizontaland vertical position simplify operationand enhance production.

This advanced information toolcombines GPS technology (centimeter-level) and in-cab computing capabilitiesfor precise grade and slope control. Ithas proven to provide measurableimpact on work quality and overallproductivity. Ideal applications includebenches, roads, leach pads, dump areas,and reclamation sites.

The faster, more precise grade guidancedelivered by this system helps operatorsdo their jobs to specification the firsttime, eliminating costly re-work. It alsoallows work to proceed in poorvisibility conditions and withoutsurveying delays, so equipment is betterutilized. And because operators getconstant, accurate feedback withoutlooking for survey stakes or papermaps, they work more confidently andefficiently.

AutoCarry (optional). AutoCarryprovides automatic blade control (raiseand lower only) during the carrysegment of the dozing cycle. Drawbarpull, ground speed, track slip, andmachine attitude are integrated tocontrol track slip and maintain optimalblade loads. AutoCarry is intended toenhance the operator’s productivity inhigh production earth moving withcarry distances over 100 feet.

Ripper Control Lever. A rigidly mountedhandgrip provides firm support for theoperator even when ripping in theroughest terrain. The low effort thumblever controls raising and lowering. Thefinger lever controls shank-in andshank-out positioning. The thumbbutton automatically raises the ripper.

Finger Tip Controls (FTC). Clustered foreasy, one-hand operation to theoperator’s left. They control steering,machine direction and gear selection.

Torque Divider. A single-stage torqueconverter with output torque dividersends 75 percent of engine torquethrough the converter and 25 percentthrough a direct drive shaft for greaterdriveline efficiency and higher torquemultiplication. The torque convertershields the driveline from sudden torqueshocks and vibration.

Planetary Power Shift Transmission.Three speeds forward and three speedsreverse, utilizing large diameter, high-capacity, oil-cooled clutches.

• Modulation system permits fastspeed and direction changes.

• Modular transmission and bevel gearslide into rear case for servicingease, even with ripper installed.

• Oil-to-water cooler for maximumcooling capacity.

• Forced oil flow lubricates and coolsclutch packs to provide maximumclutch life.

Electronic Clutch Pressure Control. TheFinger Tip Control (FTC) system has anadditional drive train feature for addedperformance, Electronic ClutchPressure Control (ECPC). This featureprovides smoother shifting bymodulating individual clutches. ECPCalso provides the auto-shift and auto-kickdown feature.

Steering Clutch and Brake. Faderesistant and adjustment free. Themulti-disc, oil-cooled steering clutchesare hydraulically applied andelectronically controlled. The brakes areapplied by springs and hydraulicallyreleased for safe and reliable brakingperformance.

Drawbar Pull vs Ground Speed. Asloads on the tractor increase, the D10Toffers unmatched lugging capability andsmooth shifting as the need occurs tochange gears under varying loads. The3-speed forward, 3-speed reversetransmission offers excellent runoutspeeds.

Elevated Final Drives. Isolated fromground and equipment induced impactloads for extended power train life.

• Crown-shaved drive gears providesmooth, quiet, low maintenanceoperation.

• Splash lubrication and Duo-Cone®

Seals extend service life.

Modular Power Train . The modularpower train design permits quickremoval and installation of majorcomponents such as the engine,transmission and final drives.

Suspended Undercarriage Design.Suspended undercarriage designabsorbs impact loads, to reduce theshock loads transferred to theundercarriage, by up to 50 percent inuneven terrain.

Bogie Suspension. Bogie suspensionconforms closely to the groundproviding up to 15 percent more groundcontact, especially in hard, uneventerrain. Higher traction means lessslippage, better balance, and a smootherride.

Integrated Carrier Roller Mount. Thecarrier roller mount is cast into the trackroller frame making it easier to add theoptional carrier roller in the field, ifconditions require it.

Rollers and Idlers. Feature symmetricDuo-Cone seals for long sealing life toprevent oil loss and dirt entry. Toricrings maintain performance over a widerange of temperatures. Rollers andidlers are serviceable and rebuildable toprovide value. Abutment-style capssecurely attach rollers and idlers to thebogies.

Roller Frames. Roller frames are tubularto resist bending and twisting, withadded reinforcement where operatingloads are highest.

• Roller frames attach to tractor by apivot shaft and pinned equalizer bar.

• Large pivot shaft bushings operatein an oil reservoir.

• A low friction, no maintenancebushing is used in the saddleconnection.

• Aligned to use more of the availablewear material, running the track tothe outside of the rollers in forwardand to the inside in reverse.

Positive Pin Retention (PPR) Sealed andLubricated Track. Designed for high-impact and high load applications. ThePPR exclusive Caterpillar design locksthe link to the pin.

Sprocket Segments. Made exclusivelyof Caterpillar Tough Steel™ for longerwear life and precision machined afterheat treat for proper fit. Segments canbe removed or replaced withoutbreaking the track.

Track Shoes. Track shoes are availablein a variety of sizes and styles to matchthe working conditions.

Frame Rails. Full box section, designedto keep components rigidly aligned.

Heavy Steel Castings. Add strength tothe main case, equalizer bar saddle,front cross member and tag-linktrunnion.

Top and Bottom Rails. Continuousrolled sections, with no machining orwelding, to provide superior mainframedurability.

Main Case. Elevates the final driveswell above the ground level work areato protect them from impact loads,abrasion and contaminants.

Pivot Shaft. The D10T pivot shaft runsthrough the mainframe and connects tothe roller frames, allowing independentoscillation. The full-length pivot shaftdistributes impact loads throughout thecase, reducing the bending stress on thecase.

Equalizer Bar. The equalizer barfeatures limited slip seals and an oil-lubricated joint for better oil flow.Remote lube passages simplifymaintenance. Large forged pads reducewear on the mainframe and extendsealed joint life.

Engine and Radiator Guard Mount. Thenew fabricated common front engineand rear radiator mount feature heavycastings.

Tag-Link. The Tag-Link brings theblade closer to the machine for moreprecise dozing and load control.

The Tag-Link design provides solidlateral stability and better cylinderpositions for constant break out force,independent of blade height.

Bulldozers. All blades feature a strongbox-section design that resists twistingand cracking. Blades are made of CatDH-2™ steel that has high tensilestrength and stands up to the mostsevere applications. Heavy moldboardconstruction and hardened bolt-oncutting edges and end bits add strengthand durability.

• Semi-Universal Blade. The Semi-Universal blade is built for toughapplications where penetration is moreimportant than capacity. The “SU”blade is more aggressive in penetratingand loading material than the “U” blade.The blade wings are designed forsuperior load retention and penetrationin tightly packed materials and forfinishing applications. Can also beconfigured with a push plate for pushloading scrapers.

• High-Capacity Universal Blade. Thehigh-capacity Universal blade offersmaximum capacity and is perfect formoving big loads over long distances.The “U” blade has large blade wingsand is ideal for stockpile work,reclamation, charging hoppers ortrapping for loaders.

Optional Dual Tilt. Improves loadcontrol and allows the operator tooptimize the blade pitch angle for eachportion of the dozing cycle.

Single Lever. Controls all blademovements, including the optional dualtilt.

Cutting Edges and End Bits. Cuttingedges are made of DH-2 steel. End bitsare made of DH-3™ steel to providemaximum service life in toughmaterials.

Rippers. Single and multi-shank rippersare made to penetrate tough materialfast and rip thoroughly for use in avariety of materials.

Single-Shank Ripper. Operator canadjust the shank depth from the seatusing an optional single-shank pinpuller. Large upper frame view holeimproves ripper tip visibility. Heattreated spacer bars in ripper carriageextend pocket life and reduce shanknotching. Large one-piece shank isavailable in deep ripping configuration.

Multi-Shank Ripper. Tailors the tractorto the material by using one, two orthree shanks.

Hydraulic Pitch Adjustment Cylinders.Hydraulic pitch adjustment cylindersvary the shank angle to get the bestpenetration so the material is lifted andshattered.

Rear Counterweights. Provide propertractor balance to maximize dozingproduction. Recommended if notequipped with any other rearattachment.
