D10 Tabletop Baseball

This is a quick and easy to learn table top game for playing baseball. It is designed to be easy to learn, fast to set up and play, and contain all the exciting elements of a real Base Ball game.

MaterialsThing you will need to play.(2) ten sided dice(7) players for each teamPen and paper for tracking scores, innings, and statistics.A token of some sort to represent the ball.A play mat.

Statistics

Each player has certain statistics that help him perform in the game. Whenever any of these skills are used, a player will roll a ten sided dice(D10) to see how well he performed the task. By adding bonus points to a skill, you can add plus 1 to the roll’s result, increasing your odds of success. Throw: The throw stat helps player pitch the ball and pass the ball to other team mates. Catch: the catch stat helps players catch incoming hits and passes.

Run: the run stat helps players run from base to base and outrun passes. SWING: The swing stat helps you swing more accurately get a higher batting average. Each player has 2 extra bonus points that he can spend to increase his skill in two areas of his choosing. You can only increase any stat by 1. If you want to play an entire season, you can start all players with no bonus points and have them earn points throughout the season. When adding bonus points to players stats, It is a good idea to keep in mind what position that player has. For example, the pitcher should have good throwing and catching skills. So you would want to put his bonus points in those two areas.

Positions

There are 7 team members on each team. Each player has a position on the field. It is best to number the players according to their position as this will help when rolling on the “hit result chart” later in the rules.1. 1st Base2. 2nd Base3. 3rd Base4. Left field5. Play sequence

To start the game, place the defense team on the field in their positions. The offensive team should have their batting lineup in order. When the batter comes to bat, the pitcher rolls a D10 and adds his throw bonus to the roll. The batter then rolls a D10 and adds his swing bonus. If the batter’s score is higher, then he hit’s the ball and rolls a D10 on the “hit result chart”. You do not add bonuses to the hit result. If the pitcher wins, then the batter is struck out. Note that the result is not a strike because this would raise the batting average up too high. If the result of the pitch is a tie, then It is considered a STRIKE! Below is the hit result chart. Roll a D10 and the ball will go in the area of the field indicated. This will determine who will attempt to catch the ball. When a player attempts to catch the ball he must roll a D10 and add his catch bonus if he has one. The catcher must beat the batter’s swing hit score in order to catch the ball. If he misses, then the batter runs to first base safely and may then attempt to run for second base. If the defending player catches the ball, then the batter is out. If the ball was missed, then It is considered “on the ground”. While a ball is on the ground, any player on base may attempt to run for an additional base. If you want a player to run for a base you must declare It by moving him off the bag and rolling a D10 plus your run bonus for a run score.

Page 4: D10 Table Top Baseball

The defending player closest to the ball automatically picks It up and throws It to a baseman of his choice. To throw the ball, roll a D10 and add any roll bonus. You succeed on a score of 3 or better. The receiving player rolls a D10 plus his catch bonus and succeeds on a 3 or better also. In order to get the runner out, the catcher must beat his run score. If either the thrower or the catcher fails his roll, the ball is considered to be fumbled and back “on the ground”. Running players cannot attempt to run while the ball is in possession of any defensive team member. If a player is running for home plate, the pitcher will cover home plate. If two or more runners are running for bases, then the offensive player throws to the base of his choice. On a successful catch,(even if the first runner makes it by beating his catch score) the catcher then throws the to the next base and so on until all bases are covered or someone drops the ball. If and baseman drops the ball, the players who are still running are successful and considered safe. If the catcher and runner roll scores are a tie, then the result is considered SAFE! If a ball has been hit to a base that no one is running to on the hit move and you decide to run to it, the baseman simply picks up the ball and tags you with It. For example. If you hit the ball to second base and the second baseman did not catch the ball and you run successfully to first. If you attempt to run to second, all he has to do is pick up the ball. There is no catch roll because no one has to throw It. There are 9 innings and 3 outs per inning just like real baseball.
