March 25, 2020 • ISCS – Holtsville The Council's Commission on Diversity and Inclusivity regional sessions focus on enhancing the capacity of system leaders to foster school environments that meet the needs of all learners, promote cultural competence, actively recruit multi-ethnic and multi-racial staff, and to ensure voices from all groups of people within the school community are heard. The program is designed for teams (administrators, teachers, staff, BOE members, parents, and students), as well as individuals who are focused on equity in outcomes. Workshop sessions will provide best practices and research on evolving our schools to meet the opportunities and challenges of diversity and cultural inclusivity Building a Classroom of Diversity & Inclusion: Why Diverse Classrooms Perform Better and Build Resilience

Why does diversity and inclusion matter, and how can you embrace it in your classroom? This workshop addresses both strong and subtle ways of implementing practices that underscore diversity and inclusion in classes and schools. Participants come away with greater sensitivity to minority and differently-abled populations, how to think more broadly about inclusion, and practical methods for promoting diversity & inclusion in their classrooms and schools.
