D and DL Annular Blowout Preventers

In the unique design of the Cameron DL Annular BOP, closing pressure forces the operating piston

and pusher plate upward to displace the solid elastomer donut and force the packer to close inward.

As the packer closes, interlocking steel reinforcing inserts rotate inward to form a continuous support

ring of steel at the top and bottom of the packer. The inserts remain in contact with each other

whether the packer is open, closed on pipe, or closed on open hole.

Other features of the DL BOP include:

• The Cameron DL BOP is shorter in height than comparable annular preventers.

• Available in dual configuration in certain sizes.

• A quick-release top with a one-piece split lock ring permits quick packer change-out with no

loose parts involved. The design also provides visual indication of whether the top is locked or

unlocked.

• The DL BOP is designed to simplify field maintenance. Components subject to wear are

field-replaceable and the entire operating system may be removed in the field for immediate

change-out without removing the BOP from the stack.

• Twin seals separated by a vented chamber positively isolate the BOP operating system from

well bore pressure. High strength polymer bearing rings prevent metal-to-metal contact and

reduce wear between all moving parts of the operating systems.

• All Cameron DL BOPs are manufactured to comply with NACE specification MR-01-75 for H2S

service.

• A shallow gas bleed port is available in some sizes.

• Packers for DL BOPs have the capacity to strip pipe as well as close and seal on almost any size

or shape object that will fit into the well bore. These packers will also close and seal on open

hole. Popular sizes of the DL BOP are available with high-performance CAMULARTM

annular

packing subassemblies.

• Special stripper packers are available in some sizes to accommodate 6-5/8" pipe/mandrels.

The Cameron DL BOP is available in sizes from 7-1/16” to 21-1/4” and in working pressures from 2000 to

20,000 psi.

DL Annular BOP Replacement Part Kits

For popular size DL BOPs, a BOP replacement parts kit is available to provide allseals, bearings and scrapers required during normal maintenance.

Kit parts are shrink-film packed to prevent loss and assure long shelf life and are lessexpensive than individual parts. All parts in each kit are identified with part num-bers and parts list index numbers.

As an optional replacement for the standard lip seal design, a D-shaped seal is avail-able for service in annular BOPs that have pitted, corroded or oversized seal grooves.To enhance the performance life of the used annular BOP, this seal design will fillmost voids created by excessive wear and tear to the seal groove. Seal kits have beencreated which include all the operating system seals for the annular BOPs listed be-low.

Annular Stripper Packer

Cameron’s Stripper Packer is designed to permit stripping of a 6-5/8” drill pipe andtool joint through the Cameron DL Annular. To accomplish the stripping function,the packer metal inserts tips have been cut back to allow the drill pipe to passthrough the closed packer without contacting the metal inserts. This special packeris not rated for 10,000 psi service on any size drill pipe because the tops of theanti-extrusion inserts have been cut back. Because this is a special service packing el-ement, it is not tested in accordance with API 16A.

**Packer is designed for the 18-3/4" 10,000 DL Annular, but is not rated for 10,000 psi service.

Pressure testing of the packing element is limited to 5000 psi on 5" and 6-5/8" drill pipe mandrels.

Severe Service Annular Packer

Cameron’s Severe Service Annular Packing element subassemblies are designed forelevated temperatures (maximum of 250 degrees F.) and up to 35% H2S. The severeservice packers/donuts are molded using CAMLAST elastomers. Limited sizes andworking pressure are available.
