Cyklop International is one of the pioneers of modern PET strap technology.At a very early stage the company recognised the enormous advantages ofPET compared to steel strapping and played a major part in its development.Today, Cyklop is one of the leading manufacturers of polyester (PET) strapsfor load securement, with production facilities in Germany and several inter-national locations.

High shock reserveOn long journeys to the customer,loads can be subjected to roughtreatment: Hard braking, unevenroad surfaces, unexpected shuntingmovements or other impulse-likepressures and generally poor hand-ling subjecting the strap to enor-mous forces. While steel strapshave only a very limited shock re-serve, PET straps are much morecapable of absorbing the shock –and thus safely protect the load.(Details are shown in the chart)

Retention of goodsSettling packages or loads presenta real challenge for steel strap; asthe chart shows. Due to its almosttotal lack of elasticity steel is una-ble to compensate allowing thestraps to loosen. The end resultbeing unsecured and dangerousloads. PET, however, compensatesfor this with its elasticity of 8 % –thus keeping the goods secure to their journey’s end.

Health and safety issues Injuries resulting from the “snap”effect or the sharp ends of the strapsare relatively frequent when wor-king with steel straps. Cyklop PETstraps, in comparison, are not onlymuch safer – but also extremelyconvenient to handle: Changingcoils is a one-man operation due to the 50 % reduction in weightcompared to steel – and with morestrap per coil, fewer coil changesare necessary. 90 % less storagespace, weather-resistance andeasier handling of delicate breaka-ble goods are further advantagesof PET.

Securing loads adequately is not only found in the consistency of the strap –the retaining strength of the material is just as important. In comparison tosteel straps, Cyklop PET straps offer two unbeatable advantages: Polyesterabsorbs high impacts far better than steel thus retaining the load more effectively. And thanks to its much greater elasticity, it effectively compensatesfor possible losses of tension due to settling. Together, these two importantbenefits considerably increase load securement.
