Define cyber-bullying in their own words

Identify the difference between bullying and cyber-bullying.

Identify who is affected by cyber-bullying in addition to the target of the bullying.

Identify the different ways that cyber-bullying affects the parties involved.

List steps they can take to prevent others from using them as target for cyber-bullying

List steps they can take if they become a target for cyber-bullies.

Educate others on how to prevent cyber-bullying

Students will: Give their own definition of cyber-bullying

Compare and contrast cyber-bullying vs.

regular bullying. Watch a video clip about Cyberbullying and the effects it can have.

Oral DiscussionHandout with real-world scenarios of how to deal with cyberbullying (Appendix A)

Student Self-Assessment and Reflection

Students will reflect on their behaviors and the behaviors of their friends throughout the lesson. They will evaluate their encounters with Cyberbullying and discuss ways to improve and overall eliminate Cyberbullying.

UbD Stage 3 Plan Learning ExperiencesStage 3: Plan Learning Experiences

Students will discuss what they think contributes to Cyberbullying and how they could prevent it. Students will view surprising statistics based on student and parent Cyberbullying facts. Students will see the long term impact of Cyberbullying and see that it can lead to death and can have very serious consequences. Will also send presentation out to parents because they need to be aware of Cyberbullying and that they are an integral part in putting an end to it.

WHAT IS CYBERBULLYING?

DirectionsRead the story of Sondra below. Then answer the questions that follow.Sondra is planning a birthday sleepover. Her parents have set a limit of eight girls, so Sondra cant invite everyone shed like. Two girls, who are left out of the party, overhear the plans. They decide to create a We Hate Sondra Jones website. They say that anyone invited to the party should not go. They share the website with everyone in school. The girls also tell everyone to add new reasons why they hate Sondra and to spread mean rumors about her. When Sondra hears about the site, she gets a sick feeling in her stomach. Each day she finds a new mean comment or joke about her on the website. She feels hurt and embarrassed. She tells her parents she is sick, so she wont have to go to school.
