AFP Workbench Viewer is not required (Advanced Function Printing). Toolbox for Java is not needed for IBC233. Get the latest toolbox from other sources if using Java. Adding SSL is not a bad idea.

Very important: Update your installation with the latest Service Pack:

www.ibm.com/systems/power/software/i/access/windows_sp.html The “REQUIRED ACTION” is not required if you Windows Updates are current. You must select either the 32 or 64 bit version.

A program (Cwbsvstr) is initiated during startup that is not required for our purposes. Use msconfig to disable its startup:

Configure the keyboard to behave like a Windows keyboard Download the AS400.kmp keyboard map file from IBM i Access Terminal Keyboard Mapping at https://scs.senecac.on.ca/~timothy.mckenna/IBC233/IBM%20i%20Terminal%20Keyboard%20Mapping.htm Instructions are found there. You can also download a terminal profile which will use this keyboard map and connect your terminal with our IBM i, Zeus.

Running Navigator and the terminal emulator for the first time The first time Navigator is run, Windows Firewall will request permissions for it and Java to be unblocked.

Start System I Navigator, expand Zeus and sign on

Expand Zeus, File Systems, Integrated File System

The files for courses may be found in Root; your instructor will tell you.

You can expand Root and search although this may take some time. If you know exactly what directory your files are in, create a filter by

• Select Root and press F11 or

• Right click on root, Customize this View…, Include

Running the Client Access terminal emulator for the first time IBM I Access or Client Access is also referred to as IBM Person Communications.

Start the session manager in the IBM i Access for Windows folder under Emulator or use the Windows Start/search feature:

Click “New Session”

Configure the session as you see below. Some prefer a size of 24x132 to view printer (spooled) files.

Once you have a session, there are other things you can customize. Any new terminal session created will inherit our customized keyboard map.

To assign this keyboard map to an existing terminal profile, open a session, Menu: Edit / Preferences / Keyboard… click User-Defined and browse to your application data folder ( %appdata% ). See below
