PROGRAMS EFFECTIVE MAY 1, 2010In response to the provincial government’s introduction ofa new harmonized sales tax (HST) effective July 1, 2010,Parks and Recreation has made the necessary adjustmentsto applicable program fees beginning with 2010 summerprograms. HST will replace the GST charged previously onregistered programs for 14 years of age and older. Theseprograms include: aquatic advanced lifesaving, aqua fitness, fitness and other adult training programs. Fees forthese summer programs have been published in this guidewith HST included. HST becomes effective July 1, 2010.However, the government has identified May 1 to July 1,2010 as a transitional period to changeover from chargingGST to HST. If you register after May 1, 2010 for an adultsummer program with a start date of July 1, 2010 or later,HST will apply.

LOCAL THEATRE GROUPS

Date: June 26. 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The Fergus Grand Theatre is one of the locations for this year’s Door’s Open in Centre Wellington. Here is an opportunity to visit this historic site. In January of 1928, a barn stood at what is now 244 St Andrew St in Fergus. It was built as astable for the customers of the Commercial Hotel, some 8 decades earlier. Just six monthslater on Tuesday, August 28, the head of MGM Louis B. Mayer sent a telegram to Fergus. It wasa wish for great success to Sam Fardella who had replaced the barn with a modern movietheatre. Speaking at the opening were Dr. Abraham Groves and Col. J.J. Craig and Reeve Moffat whogave the official opening address. 82 years later the Fergus Grand Theatre Volunteers will beon hand to greet you, answer your questions and conduct tours of the facilities.

DOORS OPEN

Summer at the Fergus Grand TheatreThe Fergus Grand Theatre will be closed for a major portion of the summer undergoing renovations. Through a Federal CulturalSpaces Grant, the facility will be installing new seating, painting the auditorium and upgrading the lighting system.
